Agricultural wastes are a good source of enzyme production because they are cost-effective and production rates are also higher. Method: In this study, eight lignolitic substrates were screened for lipase production. Results: Out of these substrates, guava leaves showed maximum activity of 9.1 U/mL from Aspergillus niger by using the solid-state fermentation method. Various factors such as temperature, pH, incubation period, moisture content, inoculum size, and substrate size that influence the growth of fungi were optimized by response surface methodology (RSM), and then characterization was performed. When all physical and nutritional parameters were optimized by RSM, the maximum lipase activity obtained was 12.52 U/mL after 4 days of incubation, at pH 8, 40 °C temperature, 3 mL inoculum size, 20% moisture content, and 6 g substrate concentration. The enzyme was partially purified through...

Since stretchable electronics use less printed circuit boards (PCBs), it is expected that the environmental performance of a stretchable electronics-based device is better than a rigid electronics-based device that provides the same functionalities. Yet, such a study is rarely available. Thus, the main purpose of this research is to perform a comparative life cycle analysis of stretchable and rigid electronics-based devices. This research combines both the case study approach and the research review approach. For the case study, a cardiac monitoring device with both stretchable and rigid electronics is used. The ISO 14044:2006 standard's prescribed LCA approach and ReCiPe 2016 Midpoint (Hierarchist) are followed for the impact assessment using the SimaPro 9.1 software. The LCA results show that the stretchable cardiac monitoring device has better environmental...

In India, the Forest Fire Alerts System (FAST) by Forest Survey of India (FSI) has been in vogue for more than 15 years and presently has more than 50,000 users. The registered forest managers receive SMS alerts of forest fires in their jurisdiction as soon as the data is available from the satellite sensors with details of the pixel affected and administrative and management boundary information of the fire-affected location. All information related to the detected forest fires are made available by FSI through their website, which brings in transparency and accountability in fire management. In recent years, the focus has been to reduce the time lag between satellite overpass and receipt of fire alert SMS/email by users which has been achieved largely due to automation of the proces...

Psychologists argue that forgiving is a cognitive process based on understanding, sympathy and affective reactions that decrease a person‘s negative judgment about a guilty person despite any negative feelings (Goodstein & Aquino, 2010). Psychological wellbeing is defined as people’s evaluations of their own lives. It is a wide concept includes different aspects of everyday experience. The purpose of the present study was to examine the relationships between forgiveness and psychological wellbeing. A total 150 sample (male= 71 & female=79), were taken in the present study. The sample was administered Heartland Forgiveness Scale (2005) and Ryffs (1989) Psychological Wellbeing. Obtained data were subjected to correlation and enter multiple regression analysis. Findings indicate that all the three dimensions of forgiveness showed a positive correla...

Financial ratios are employed to measure the profitability, liquidity and credit quality performance of five large South African based commercial banks. The study found that overall bank performance increased considerably in the first two years of the analysis. A significant change in trend is noticed at the onset of the global financial crisis in 2007, reaching its peak during 2008-2009. This resulted in falling profitability, low liquidity and deteriorating credit quality in the South African Banking sector.

High demand of concrete and scarcity of raw material mainly causes for this rising cost. Hence most of the researchers have focus on use of the waste materials in concrete. This project investigates the possible use of coconut shell ash (CSA) and stone dust (SD) as partial replacement of ordinary Portland cement (OPC). Several cylinders were cast, cured and crushed at 3, 7, 28 and 90 days for uniaxial compression test (UCS) and 3, 7 & 28 days for static elastic modulus test (SEM). Concrete beams were crushed at 3, 7, 28 days for flexural strength test (FS). Drying shrinkage test (DS) also performed by using mortar beams. The coconut shell ash was replaced from 0 to 30 percent at 10% intervals. It was observed that the compressive strength increased by 7.50% when cement was replaced by 10% of CSA & SD. On the other hand, static elastic modulus and flexural strength were increased by 44% and 3.50% for the same mix propor...

The sugarcane bagasse (SCB) is used as fuel in the boilers of many sugar factories in Bangladesh. The SCB burns at about 500°C to produce heat in such cases. According to the previous studies the chemical composition of SCBA and SD revealed that such by products are likely to be pozzolanic. Sugarcane bagasse ash and stone dust both were passed through 0.074mm sieve and used equal in amount to prepare a mix as a replacement OPC in concrete, then OPC was replaced by weight in ratio of 10%, 20% and 30%.The speciemen were tested for uniaxial compressive strength test, flexural strength and static elastic modulus test. The results shows that at 28 days specimen the compressive strength increased by 6% at 10% replacement of OPC. The flexural strength and modulus of elasticity were increased by 4% and 73% respectively for 10% repla...

Due to the inclusion of a copper atom in their catalytic core, laccases are frequently referred to as multi-copper oxidases. Laccases are versatile enzymes that can catalyze the oxidation of a wide range of phenolic and non-phenolic substances. In the current study, a local strain of Aspergillus niger was used for solid-state fermentation to produce fungal laccase, as well as purify and optimize laccase. The enzyme profile, which was acquired using guaiacol to measure enzyme activity, showed that after five days of incubation, wheat straw provided the highest level of laccase activity, or 2.551 U/mL. A technique called response surface methodology (RSM) was used to examine the effects of various conditions on the production of enzymes. The RSM results demonstrated that after five days of incubation, the enzyme activity was at its highest at 45 °C, pH 5.5, and 30% moisture level, inoculated with 2 mL myceli...

The concept of PSS is not fully developed yet and is at rudimentary stage therefore developing a standard ontology for PSS can help researchers and practitioners to communicate and share their views without ambiguity and thus encourage the conception and implementation of useful methods and tools. Only a few researches can be found that worked on developing a standard ontology for PSS. While developing domain or standard ontology for PSS the selection of ontology engineering environment becomes important as PSS comes with new requirements, such as multi-stakeholder involvement, concurrent user’s access, process description, representation of relationships etc. Therefore, in this paper we make a comparison between different development environments from PSS ontology perspective, with the aim of assisting users in selecting an appropriate tool for crea...

Utilization of crowdsourcing for product design and development has been attracting the attention of both enterprises and researchers. Many cases of implementation of crowdsourcing for product design and development such as: Threadless, FIAT Mio, Lego online Factory, etc., have made crowdsourcing a promising alternative source of innovative power. Although crowdsourcing gained access due to improved Internet access and web 2.0, it is little understood how the crowd, with respect to participation, behaves for any crowdsourcing project. To investigate this, we conducted an experiment on a real crowd of engineering related individuals to figure out the crowd participation pattern for various product design and development phases of a new product development project. The experiment results give a quantitative view of the participation of the crowd (i.e., crowd participation pattern) in various phases of a product design and development process that utilizes crowdsourcing, provide a practical guidance for companies to harness the power of the crowd sensibly, and provide experimental data for further research in this field.

This requires a process plan along with the machinery (kinematic configuration) to produce the part. When the product is changed, consequently the process plans and the kinematic configurations change accordingly as well. The change in the basic machinery seriously affects the overall profit of the industry. This paper presents an approach to minimize this cost while still providing a suitable process plan for the associated kinematic configuration. The algorithm to implement this approach is also the part of this paper. A sample part is taken as an example to illustrate the use of this approach. The results are compared with the existing data for the part. The applicability, uses and future trends have been discussed in conclusion.
