Numismatics is a collection or the study of currency used for payments in the form of coins, paper, tokens and others. The wide variety of themes in coins that collectors accumulate are historical, dynastic, contemporary, flora and fauna, portraits, foreign coins, deformed or error coins and many others to the list. The origin of the word Numismatics derived from the Latin and Greek word Nomisma later used in French as 'Numismatiques' and as Numismatics for the first time in English in 1829. The collection of coins had become "Hobby of Kings" in the 14 th and 15 th century and among European Nobility. The collection of old currency was being traded more than the face value and as an investment. There are many Numismatics guilds and societies actively working in India and around the world with the spirit of collection of valuable currency out of its face value. At present many Universities and societies are providing courses in studying Numismatics.
