This chapter revisits and builds upon the practicum-focused chapter from the first volume of this international handbook exploring mainly why the practicum is still a less explored area in the S-STEP community, followed by how teacher educators/ researchers facilitate an S-STEP approach to practicum. The exploration begins by examining the challenges of using S-STEP, reviewing the conditions necessary to facilitate S-STEP in practicum settings, and providing arguments that these

The literature supports the theoretical concept of an improved rate of teacher retention when mentorship is offered, but the research data collected for this article revealed a gap between this theory and practice. Teacher attrition is receiving worldwide attention; while some attrition in all professions is expected, high rates cause concern for the teaching profession. This phenomenological study focuses the experiences and challenges novice teachers endure in school settings within their first 3 years of classroom practice. This research work explored the phenomenon of being a novice teacher and how policies on mentorship influence/shape teacher retention/ attrition within the early years of classroom practice.

In many ways, UOIT represents a new way of thinking about the nature of higher education that was prevalent at the time; in other ways, it was unable to effect a significant redesign of curriculum, administration, or structure.

In this paper, we examine some of the major challenges that are being faced by teacher educators as they prepare for September 2020, struggling to reimagine teaching and learning remotely. We also examine the issues facing teacher education using the lens of 'complex adaptive systems', systems that are unpredictable, have many interacting parts, and are characterised by constant uncertainty both from within and particularly from outside. Some issues affecting teacher education and teacher educators causing this uncertainty in Ontario include 1) access to effective online connection and support, 2) educator professional development for online learning, 3) conversion of face-to-face courses to successful online courses, and 4) the recognition of student teachers' practica experiences. Although this article provides a snapshot of the Ontario context and the challenges it currently faces in teacher education, it also presents some solutions, and by thinking of the context as an example of a complex adaptive system, it also holds out hope for the future.
