It is not "the best" form of government, but currently the only best alternative we have. Since its inception from Ancient India and Greece, to its popularization by USA, Democracy has been facing many triumphs and many assaults as well. With different countries come differing interpretations of what democracy is. Is it what the West believes to be? Or is it best practiced in a tailor-made fashion, suiting the needs of the countries it resides in? This research paper aims to resolve this dichotomy that has over the years made the institution of democracy come under the radars of suspicion and threats, with recent series of global crises-including the Russian invasion of Ukraine and conflicts in Ethiopia, Myanmar, Syria and Yemen, and their rippling effects-bringing the very idea of democracy in peril. This paper explores the series of new age threats faced by democratic systems while offering a road ahead.
