The participants were 37 undergraduate students who were presented with either focused attention or split attention multimedia learning environment. After attention levels of the learners were determined by d2 Test of Attention, they were separated to two groups as high and low. On the other hand, the instructional media were designed according to focused and split attention types. Multimedia in split attention type was applied to the half of the learners in groups determined with respect to attention level and multimedia in focused attention type was applied to the other half. Eye tracking (number of fixations, hetmap, dwell time) data were collected during the study. Their recall performances were measured with recall tasks. After that, the resea...

Many popular terms such as software description, software review, software evaluation and lastly ... more Many popular terms such as software description, software review, software evaluation and lastly software usability used by design, development and evaluation experts in the field. However, such terms used interchangeably by researchers and developers are syntactically and semantically different due to their conceptual backgrounds and the technical procedures taken in the development or evaluation process. A simple search of the basic terms, software selection, software description, software review, software evaluation, software usability and software assessment in this day and age of electronic databases would yield a large number of "hits" or articles. There are different definitions for such terms. The definitions are used loosely and interchangeably in activities by the researchers and web page developers. The term software assessment is used to encompass the set of terms described in this paper. This allows for evaluating the contributions of specific characteristics ...

A survey method was used for the study and the data were collected by Web Based Education Attitudes Scale and The Adjective Check List (ACL). At the end of the study, it was revealed that the students were successful in the web based education environment with the average of 3.091 out of 4.00. The average of students' attitudes towards web based education was 97.212 out of 135. The arithmetical average of the items in the attitudes scale was 3.738 out of 5.00. Also, significant relationships were found between learners' personality traits, academic achievement and attitudes towards web based education. The findings revealed that personality traits explain about 53.2% of the acade...

Attention makes easier for observer to detect change in focused area during change detection period. From this point of view, attention levels of individuals were focused and their effects on change blindness were determined within the scope of the study. Therefore, eye tracking data was recorded. As a result of performed One Way Variance Analysis, change blindness scores of individuals show significant differences according to attention levels (high-medium-low). When performed Post-hoc test was evaluated, it was seen that individuals with high attention levels detected changes on screen more than individuals with medium and low attention levels. According to heat map and scan path analysis obtained from eye tracking results, it seems that individuals focus on the most distinct objects on screen ...

Therefore, trying to find solutions to the students’ problems that are similar to the traditional learning approaches would yield poor results. Apart from that researches are needed to examine the various aspects of this new way of learning. In the light of this perspective, the current study investigates the factors that affect learners’ academic achievement and attitudes in web based education. 127 students enrolled in the e-MBA Masters Degree of Bilgi University constituted the study group of the research. A survey method was used for the study and the data were collected by a Demographic Information Questionnaire and Web Based Education Attitudes Scale. Initially, Demographic Information Questionnaire and Web Based Education Attitudes Scale were administered to the e-MBA students. Also, perform the reliability and validity studies of this scale. With this aim in mind, a five-point Likert type scale was prepared which was consisting of 58 items. This scale was administered to a sample of 127 university students who were attended in Bilgi University e-MBA master program. The construct validity of this scale was assessed by factorial analysis. After factor analysis, the scale appeared to have two factorial components which were “Efficiency of web based instruction”, and “To resist web based instruction”. Reliability analyses were carried out through item total, item reminder correlations and item discriminating power. After item analysis, 16 items were removed from the scale. Cronbach Alfa internal consistency coefficient was found to be 0.917. The latest version of the scale was tested by using confirmatory factor analysis. The measurements revealed...

Seven children with ASD and ten (10) typically developing (TD) children participated in this study. To collect data, an eye-tracking system was used while participants looked at visual stimuli. According to the results of the study, high-functioning children with ASD have deficiency in getting relevant social information from the eyes though faces familiar to them, but they use information from the eye region in face exploration more than from the other parts of the faces. In addition, children with ASD seem to present gaze patterns similar to those of TD children during face exploration. Keywords: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Visual Attention, Human Face, Animal Face, Eye-tracking, Human-Computer Interaction;

At the same time, resources for education threaten to become more scarce. To address this issue, many learning institutions are looking to distance education as a means of sharing resources and reaching students. Meanwhile, the rapid development and decreasing costs of communication technologies, including microcomputers, the Internet and the Web, are affecting the delivery of distance education and expanding its potential audience (Wurster 1997). The distance education literature reflects the increasing interest in the potential of current technologies to alter traditional teacher-student relationships. The impact of this trend is also described by John Noon when he states, "Distance learning courses are offering students new flexibility in course and even campus selection, causing many institutions to begin redefining themselves"(Noon 1996). Fiber optic technologies bring both new opportunities...
