It was widely reported that certain dietary habits and components induce Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis activity, with corticosterone found in the bloodstream. Chronic corticosterone presence can portray signs and symptoms of certain endocrine. Certain food and chemicals were found to alter HPA axis activity leading to dysregulation of the HPA axis. Earlier studies have shown enhancement of the HPA axis to produce more glucocorticoids by an unbalanced diet. This study aims to shed more light on this subject.METHODS: Sprague Dawley rats were divided into five groups of seven each and were fed five respective diets (control, high-fat, high-protein, high-sugar, and high-starch), with tap water as drinking water ad libitum. After eight weeks, the rats were euthanized, blood was collected, and serum harvested and kept for analysis. Mesenteric fat wa...

However, investigation of salivary 1,25(OH)D has not been clearly reported. Vitamin plays important roles in inhibiting cancer progression. Current study was conducted to investigate serumal and salivary 25(OH)D) and 1,25(OH)D levels of healthy and head and neck cancer (HNC) subjects.METHODS: Research were conducted at Haji Adam Malik Hospital, Medan, Indonesia. Forty HNC and 40 healthy subjects were recruited and selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Medical records were documented, followed by anthropometric evaluation and serum and saliva collection. Laboratory investigation for 25(OH)D and 1,25(OH) was performed using Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) methods.RESULTS: Significant serumal (p=0.002) and salivary (p=0.016) 25(OH)D mean level differences of HNC and normal groups were obtained. More serumal or salivary 25(OH)D de...

The purpose of this study was to determine the levels of neuropeptide Y in healthy people and to see differences in gender and anthropometric parameters. The hypothesis of this study was that there would be differences in neuropeptide Y levels in groups with gender and anthropometric parameter differences. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional study involving 62 study subjects, male and female, who did not have chronic diseases or metabolic disorders. This research was conducted from April to September 2020. The parameters examined in this study were neuropeptide Y levels and anthropometric parameters. The statistical analysis performed was the Mann-Whitney test to see the differences between groups. Results: The mean age of the research subjects was 40.48 ± 10.85 years, with the same ethnic distribution. The distribution of men and women was more women than men. Based on anthropometric examination, it was found that obesity nutritional status was more common in the female group than in the male group; however, serum neuropeptide Y levels were found to be signi cantly different between male and female groups (male group was higher). Conclusions: The study found signi cant differences in serum neuropeptide Y levels in male and female groups.

Exercise, in addition to maintaining physical fitness and being useful to one's health, it may protect a person from negative things such as stress and can be utilized as a kind of leisure. However, there are still many people who do not exercise properly. It is not necessarily excellent exercise for those who have good exercise knowledge, and it is not necessarily poor exercise for people who have less exercise knowledge. Exercising also disregards a person's age; people of all ages, young and old, are allowed to participate in sports they enjoy, such as aerobic and anaerobic activities. As previously said, in addition to maintaining physical fitness and being helpful to one's health, students should exercise to relieve tension induced by lectures. However, many students are overworked and do not consider exercise to be vital because they do not have spare time to participate in sports. Students will become unfit and unable to concentrate on the lecture subject as a result of this. Purpose: This study aims to determine whether there is a correlation between knowledge and attitudes towards the habit of exercising in students of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara. Method: The research that will be conducted is an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional study approach. The sample to be studied in this study was 260 students of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara who met the inclusion criteria. The data used is primary data that will be obtained from questionnaires filled out online through the Line, WhatsApp, and Instagram applications. Results: Based on the data obtained using the chi-square method, then the results obtained were p = 0.202 and p = 0.706 (p <0.05). Conclusion: Based on these results, H o is accepted, so there is no correlation between knowledge and attitudes towards the habit of exercising in USU Medical Faculty students.

As result of the deficiency, there will be increasing number of metabolic disorders such as obesity and diabetes mellitus type 2. To discover lifestyle, knowledge, attitude, and action of women aged 20-50 years old with vitamin D deficiencyinsufficiency regarding risk of metabolic disorder caused by vitamin D deficiency. Cross-sectional study engaging 98 women participants with vitamin D deficiency-insufficiency. Lifestyle including avoiding sunlight, low physical activity, and sunblock application were assessed. The scoring was to assess knowledge, attitude and action of women aged 20-50 years old with vitamin D deficiencyinsufficiency regarding risk of metabolic disorder in Medan and then the result was analyzed. The study engaged 98 women aged 20-50 years old with vitamin D deficiency-insufficiency, showed vitamin D level with mean 19.66±5.69 ng/ml. There were 46.4% participants categorized into vitamin D deficiency and 53.6% participants categorized into vitamin D insufficiency. All subjects were found to be low on sun rays exposure, high incidence sunblock applicaton, low vitamin D intake, and low physical activities. According to knowledge about risk of metabolic disorder, there were 42.3% participants with sufficient knowledge and 57.7% with deficient knowledge, and regarding attitude, 48.52% had negative attitude and 51.5% had positive attitude, regarding action, 24.7% was sufficient and 75.3% was deficient. According to the analysis, there was no significant association between action and knowledge, attitude and knowledge, but there was significant association between action and knowledge based on education (p=0.01). Lifestyle, sufficient knowledge, and action could be the caused of low vitamin D level. There was significant association between action and knowledge based on education, but didn't show any associations. Based on this result, knowledge needs to be improved in order to improve attitude and action with counseling or books that are easy to be understood about the importance of vitamin D.
