Note 2 to entry: The results of progress evaluations can lead to revision of the project management plan (3.5). 3.3 project unique process undertaken to achieve an objective Note 1 to entry: A project generally consists of a set of coordinated and controlled activities (3.1) with start and finish dates, conforming to specific requirements, including the constraints of time, cost and resources Note 2 to entry: An individual project can form part of a larger project structure and generally has a defined start and finish date. Note 3 to entry: In some projects the objectives and scope are updated and the product or service characteristics defined progressively as the project proceeds. Note 4 to entry: The output of a project can be one or several units of product or service. Note 5 to entry: The project's organization is normally temporary and established for the lifetime of the project. Note 6 to entry: The complexity of the interactions among project activities is not necessarily related to the project size. 3.4 project management planning, organizing, monitoring, controlling and reporting of all aspects of a project (3.3) and the motivation of all those involved in it to achieve the project objectives 3.5 project management plan document specifying what is necessary to meet the objective(s) of the project (3.3) Note 1 to entry: A project management plan should include or refer to the project's quality plan (3.9). Note 2 to entry: The project management plan also includes or references other plans such as those relating to organizational structures, resources, schedule, budget, risk management, environmental management, health and safety management, and security management, as appropriate.

This is why financial services industry experts have developed ISO 20022, a global and open standard for information exchange, that's being adopted by a growing number of users in various domains: securities, payments, foreign exchange, cards and related services, notably for end-to-end straight-through processing (STP), components management or regulatory reporting. Just take a look at the ISO 20022 website, and you'll be impressed by the scope of what's already covered! The ISO 20022 standard provides a methodology to describe business processes and a common business language. It can be rendered in different syntaxes, enabling implementations for messaging and application programming interfaces (APIs). It's supported by a central repository, which includes a data dictionary and a catalogue of messages-and is accessible to all. From a business point of view, the usage of this universal messaging standard, versatile by design and maintained by a broad community of professionals, improves efficiency in delivering products and services. And it is a success: ISO 20022 implementations are spreading across all domains and regions by replacing legacy standards and supporting new business needs. Many thanks to SWIFT for their continuous support and involvement in ISO work. This book will help managers better understand how migrating to ISO 20022 can improve their business.

P rogrammable logic controllers (PLCs) act as the foundation for many manufacturing operations and are capable of many tasks. While the controller is very important, the programming inside the controller is just as critical and can be overlooked. Matt Fether, a department manager at Matrix Technologies, offers insights on how he programs PLCs and tips on how to make programming easier. Question: How are your PLCs getting programmed? Answer: This starts during the definition phase of a project while generating the design documentation. If a control system is properly defined and documented by following the proper procedures for project execution, then the actual programming of the controller is a medial step in the project execution and provides for a more efficient development. The use of reusable code, standard object libraries, and replication tools are a few items to leverage to further enhance the efficiencies of the development. Use testing procedures throughout the programming phase on projects. If an operation is to be generated on more than one unit, generate the operation on a signal unit and thoroughly test it before replicating it for the next unit(s). Use replication tools during development to save time and help to eliminate the "fat fingering" aspect that comes along with just banging away on a keyboard to generate programs. Back to TOC PLC programming: What you need to know 4 Q: Are PLC programs organized in a way that enables others to modify or update them later? A: Produce applications that can be easily interpreted by the end user. At the end of a system integration project, the applications generated and/ or modified are turned over to clients. It is best to develop applications in a way that those who work with the systems regularly can understand them. A system integrator should become a partner with a client, rather generating "proprietary" applications. System integrators should have design reviews with clients throughout the project life-The following screen capture illustrates PLC code that was recently implemented for a batching process. It is written in ladder logic, using Studio5000 Logix Designer software from Rockwell Automation, for a 1756-L75 processor from Rockwell Automation. Courtesy: Matrix Technologies Inc.
