When urban areas are built without following any guidelines it becomes unmanageable. In Rajshahi city, the RDA market is established, in violation of BNBC (Bangladesh National Building Code) rules and regulations and without proper fire safety measures. Recently, a massive fire was caught at the factory of Kemiko Pharmaceuticals Limited in Rajshahi city. The study attempted to analyze the vulnerability level in the RDA market. Also, 40 individual shops are surveyed to check individual assessments. Analysis based on this indicator was performed and indicators were selected for analysis. To calculate the vulnerability, the indicators were weighted (depending on importance) and graded (based on condition). The findings show that the market building is highly vulnerable with practically no fire safety measures. To reduce vulnerability, there needs to be some proper fire safety planning, market design and modification with the assistance of expert personnel, following appropriate rules and policies.

In this paper fire growth behavior in an apartment building is studied through a numerical analysis using Fire Dynamic Simulator (FDS). A model apartment with fixed combustibles was created using FDS. The fire growth characteristics were studied and heat release rate, the rise of temperature, toxic gas dispersion and human evacuation were assessed. The fire was generated using a burner function. Computational analysis results from those models were analyzed and discussed. The relationship of wind and ventilation effect with time helps to predict the fire growth behavior in different location of the apartment. Evacuation modeling was created to illustrate the effect of evacuation time and fractional effective dose (FED) for different types of agents. Cities in developing countries are experiencing exponential growth of coverage of water supply an... more Cities in developing countries are experiencing exponential growth of coverage of water supply and sanitation which will continue to release of growing wastewater volumes. In Rajshahi city, domestic and industrial wastewater is either discharged directly into a sewer system, a natural drain or water body, a nearby field or an internal septic tank. Due to the limitation in the availability of fresh water for irrigation, wastewater is used for irrigation of agricultural fields, particularly sewage water. The treatment of sewage water has a significant effect on urban environments, agriculture, and the river system. This paper aims to identify the benefits, adverse effects, and long-term impacts of wastewater reuse in Rajshahi City's agricultural land and provide appropriate solutions to the problems. A questionnaire survey was conducted to collect data on the perception and responses of the farmers regarding agricultural, economic, environmental, and health issues. Also, waste water was collected and analyzed in the RUET laboratory prior to and after treatment. It is evident from the results that, Rajshahi City has no biological method of handling their wastewater. The water has been misused in agriculture and has posed possible threats to public health and the environment. The most important advantages of wastewater reuse were noticed as the availability of wastewater over all seasons. Farmer reported that this water's long-term exposure rapidly stimulates crop growth but drastically reduces grain yield. Finally, Interviews with key factors suggest that a long-term, permanent wastewater reuse system is not advantageous to the community and some suggestions have been put forward so that the treated waste water can be used without further treatment as irrigation water and discharge into the river.

Fire incidents are increasing in urban areas in recent areas and posing a great threat to human l... more Fire incidents are increasing in urban areas in recent areas and posing a great threat to human lives and properties. The unplanned urban housings without necessary fire safety provisions are responsible for these accidents. In Khulna city alone, there is a large number of residential buildings which are constructed violating the rules and regulations of the Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC 2015) and Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence (BFSCD). These buildings have no fire safety measures at all. 20 buildings are surveyed through a questionnaire interview, survey and discussion. Findings show that among the 20 surveyed buildings, 75% of them are in a highly vulnerable condition and are at high-risk fire hazards. 25% of them are at medium risk. Some buildings are too old and it was found that they did not follow the proper building fire safety code. For the case of relatively newly constructed buildings, it is observed that they maintained the proper rules for construction but did not have proper fire safety measures. They do not have evacuation routes or sufficient fire extinguishers that are a must at the time of emergency. Fire safety planning, designing and modification of these buildings with the help of expert personnel by following the proper fire safety guidelines are needed for these buildings. Sufficient surveillance and supervision are also needed to reduce the risk of fatal fire incidences in residential areas.

Several kinds of wastewater are treated based on the concentration of various parameters. Domestic Wastewater/Municipal Wastewater is treated in Sewage Treatment Plants (STP), which involve various types of processes like physical, chemical and biological to treat the wastewater better. The treatment plant involves five steps of the process – preliminary treatment, primary treatment, secondary treatment, tertiary treatment and sludge treatment to meet the safe disposal guidelines of the department of the environment. Cement industries are one of the most top contributors to GDP. They produce a lot of pollution in the environment. Local manufacturers do not maintain the requirement of the Department of Environment (DOE). This paper aims to study the pollution sources, emission inventory, emission monitoring, air pollution modeling, and pollution control equipment in the cement industry. Sample air pollution modeling is shown in AERMOD software. Finally, some recommendation was done in the paper.
