It has been implicated in the pathophysiology of several neurological disorders, including epilepsy. Extensive research has demonstrated the involvement of genetic factors in influencing the susceptibility to and progression of epilepsy. In this study, we focused on investigating the connection between genetic variations in genes related to the ECS and the occurrence of epilepsy. Some ECS-related gene polymorphisms were selected and genotyping was performed using the polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) technique. Interestingly, CB1 rs12720071 genotype (OR 16.33, 95% CI 1.8–149; p = 0.001) showed an association with generalized epilepsy and MAGL rs604300 genotype (OR 2, 95% CI 1.1–3.4; p = 0.013) demonstrated a relationship with females diagnosed with focal epilepsy. ...

Menstrual headaches are generally of a longer duration more debilitating and more resistant to treatment than other migraines. Materials & Methods: The target population was the medical female students of Tabriz University from April 2005 to April 2006. In this study 300 female students, 18 to 26 years old (50 medicine students, 50 dentistry student, 50 pharmacology students, 50 untiring student, 50 obstetric students, and 50 nursing student), were studied. The survey was done using questionnaires that were field up by students. This was a cross-sectional descriptive analytic study. Results:All of the interviewers (100%) completed the questionnaires: the prevalence of pure menstrual headache was 27.3% a positive family history headache was found among 62.9% of students who had menstrual headache 20% of native students and 34.2% of in native students had experienced menstrual headache. The prevalence rate of migraine was 30.5% and tension-type headache was 69.5%. 47.6% of students had attacks occurring 2 days before onset of menstruation and 41.6% had 3 days after the menstrual period. Conclusion: The results of this study were compatible with other studies and this study shows that menstrual headache is highly prevalent among medical students at this university - specially medicine students.

The present study aimed to investigate the perceived stress and its effect on the quality of life (QoL) and coping strategies of female chemotherapy patients with breast cancer spinal metastases during the COVID-19 pandemic. Materials and Methods: This descriptive-correlational study was conducted during February 20, 2020 and May 21, 2020 at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences during the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 61 female chemotherapy patients with breast cancer spinal metastases completed the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and Billings, SF-36 questionnaire, and Moos' Coping Checklist. The data were analyzed in SPSS using the Pearson correlation coefficient test at the significance level of P < 0.05. Results: The overall perceived stress level of the participants was high (51.10 ± 2.45). The overall score of coping strategies was 46.10 ± 1.15 while the scores of problem-and emotion-focused subscales were 22.25 ± 1.41 and 30.42 ± 01.30, respectively. The perceived stress level had a significant correlation with overall coping (P = 0.009, r=0.8), emotion-focused coping (P = 0.04, r = 0.5), and problem-focused coping (P = 0.02, r = 0.6) strategies. Finally, the results showed poor relationships between problem-focused and physical health (P = 0.009, r = 0.4), problem-focused mental health (P = 0.01, r = 0.4), emotion-focused and physical health (P = 0.02, r = 0.3), and emotion-focused and mental health (P = 0.03, r = 0.3). Conclusions: Based on the findings, there are direct correlations between the perceived stress (strong) and QoL (poor) levels of female chemotherapy patients with breast cancer spinal metastases and their coping strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The present study investigates this relationship in childbearing stroke women admitted to university referral hospitals in North-West Iran. Methodology: One hundred seventy eight female patients between 15 and 44 years of age who were admitted to two referral University Hospitals in a six years period were evaluated in this descriptive-analytical study. Data concerning the use of OCP and other risk factors were recorded. The OCP usage data were compared between the patients and the matched normal population. Results: The average age of the patients was 35.5±7.4 years. Seventy three patients were admitted with arterial stroke, 15 patients had cardioembolic origin, 39 patients with venous stroke and 46 patients with hemorrhagic stroke, 45.2%, 20%, 59% and 30.4% of them used OCP respectively. Approximately 26.3% of the matched female population of childbea...

At this study, we aimed to assess the mortality and 3-month outcome of these patients who are not going under DC. Material & Methods: In this prospective descriptive study, all patients referred to Imam Reza Hospital in Urmia, Iran, from 2017-2019 with extensive ischemic stroke with refractory medical edema of the brain who did not undergo surgery were included. Patient's demographic and other brain stroke-related data were recorded. Patients were evaluated for the improvement of brain stroke symptoms based on the comparison of National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) criteria at the time of hospitalization with discharge time and also for the degree of disability and mortality at three months follow-up according to mRS criteria. P values less than 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results: A total of 28 patients were enrolled in the study. Median age was 76 years. NIHSS score was 21 at admission and 18 at discharge (p<0.05). Of all 28 patient, 22 (78.6%) died during hospital admission and 24 (85.7%) died up to 3 month follow up. None of the 4 survived patients had a good and independent outcome along the 3-month follow-up (MRS<3). Conclusion: Results of this study showed that in patients with extensive cerebral infarction with edema resistant to medical treatment, fail to perform decompressive craniectomy is associated with a very high mortality rate and poor prognosis.

We conducted a prospective study to evaluate the efficacy, safety and mid-term follow up results of 206 cases received PTA with or without stent implant to treat their symptomatic atherosclerotic VA stenosis in all segments (V1-V4). In a prospective mono-arm trial from October 2008 to July 2012 in a single center, 239 lesions affecting the intra or extracranial VA (171 in V1, 17 in V2, 14 in V3, 21 in V4 and 16 in combined segments) were treated by PTA with or without stent implant. Non-disabling stroke patients who had failed conservative medical treatment and had angiographic evidence of >50% stenosis in the dominant VA with clinical signs and symptoms of VB stenosis were included in this study. They were mean followed for 13.15±5.24 months after treatment. Overall, 206 patients underwent the procedure. ...

A misdiagnosis of PNES as epilepsy results in a prolonged and unnecessary (antiepileptic) drug treatment and social and psychological stigma of epilepsy in these patients. This study aimed to determine the epidemiology, clinical manifestations, and associated factors of PNES in hospitalized patients in the video-electroencephalography (EEG) monitoring (VEM) service of Razi Hospital, Tabriz, Iran. Methods: In this cross-sectional descriptive study, 55 patients with a final diagnosis of PNES were selected from the patients referred to the VEM unit of Razi Hospital for the evaluation of epilepsy. The study was performed from May 2017 to June 2019. Patient information included demographic data and medical history (drug history, comorbidities, trauma, and family hi...

Therapeutic failure and non-adherenceare common causes of recurrent embolic events. The aim of this study was toinvestigate possible reasons why INR was outside the therapeutic range in patients presentingwith acute ischemic stroke and AF. Methods: This prospective study was performed over a ten-month period and all patientsadmitted with acute ischemic stroke were enrolled. Patients with AF who did not have INRwithin the therapeutic range (INR = 2-3) at the time of admission were identified. During a face-to-face interview, the reasons for INR being outside the therapeutic range were assessed basedon a prepared checklist. Results: During the study period, 810 patients had an acute ischemic stroke, of which 177 hadAF heart rhythm (22%). The median age was 76 (IQR: 71-83), and 87 (52%) were male. Of these177 patients, 44 (25%) h...
