A film that tells the story of a mysterious force destroying the population, only one thing is certain -- if one sees it, he must die. Survivors must now avoid coming face to face with the entity that embodies their worst fears. Seeking hope and new beginnings, a woman and her children embark on a perilous journey through the woods and down rivers to find the one place that might offer refuge. To make it, they must cover their eyes from the evil that is after them -- and complete the journey blindfolded.

This research is entitled Representation of Women in Tomb Raider Video Game (Roland Barthes Semio... more This research is entitled Representation of Women in Tomb Raider Video Game (Roland Barthes Semiotics Analysis). Video games have now ecome part of the mass media, have been able to convey ideologies, reconstruct meanings, and myths through visuals and stories presented. The video game industry, which views women as a selling commodity, continues to be exploited by exploiting the sensual side of women. This is done by the game developers in order to attract the interest of the market, where the majority of video game players are men.
This study aims to determine how the form of representation of female
characters and their commodification forms are displayed in the Tomb Raider video game. The type of research that used in this research is a qualitative research with semiotic analysis tools belonging to Roland Barthes, namely two order of significance, denotation and connotation. With this analysis tool, the researcher will examine the meaning behind the sign in an audio-visual image contained in the Tomb Raider video game.
The results of this study found that the female characters in the Tomb Raider game were still dominated by men. Women are still stereotyped as weak, people who are always trapped and need men's help. Sensuality in women is also still used through the depiction of an unrealistic body shape as a selling commodity to male game players which is the main objective marketing.
