Education has become an important medium for every individual to achieve excellence in their life... more Education has become an important medium for every individual to achieve excellence in their life. A better and consistent performance in study makes the journey to the excellence easy and achievable. So, in today’s competition-driven world, consistent performance has become a big concern for every student out there. Students who are performing poorly in their courses need to get proper guidance at an early stage. To aid in identifying such students, we have proposed a framework based on classification algorithms that classifies and predicts the performance of the students based on their past academic records. The algorithm first learns about the previous performances of the students and subsequently, uses it to predict the future performance. We first train the algorithm through the dataset comprising of the performance records of more than 100 students and then use the model to predict the future performance. Automatic feature selection method has been used to process the data so as to provide input to the classification algorithms in order to predict the student performance. On applying the classification algorithms, it was observed that C4.5 showed a better accuracy of 86% than Naive Bayes algorithm, that had an accuracy of 70%. This proposed model will help in the early detection of weak students, decreasing dropout rates, reducing educational pressure on students and increasing the skill set of students.

It is native to India and China. S. caryophyllatum L. belonging to the family Myrtaceae is taken for screening antimicrobial activity. Ethanolic extract of the leaves of Syzygium caryophyllatum was screened for antibacterial activity using Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Activity of ethanolic extract was good when compared to Ampicillin. The antimicrobial activity was determined by Agar diffusion method and also MIC technique. From the result it was found that ethanolic extract of the leaves of Syzygium caryophyllatum exhibited good antibacterial activity against these gram +ve and gram –ve microorganisms.

Since CPS like smart home involves the integration of several types of sensors and equipment, therefore reliability, maintainability, security, data storage and cost-effectiveness are some of the critical issues to be addressed. In addition, interactivity and dynamic feedback, context correlation with respect to streaming events and uncertainties in event composition are also identified as major challenging issues. In the present research, a model for CPS is proposed which is a voice-controlled smart home. Spoken Language Understanding (SLU) plays an important role in dialog system for identifying semantic components in user utterance. The research work includes stream processing, data collection, identification of actions from voice utterance and event-based real-time decision making. The study includes deployment of various sensors and actuators for performing various actions based on voice commands. Raspberry Pi [19] is used as a central node to which various sensors and equipment are connected. It receives voice command from android device and identifies the various intents and slots from the input utterance.

A good data visualization is not only a distortion-free graphical representation of data but also... more A good data visualization is not only a distortion-free graphical representation of data but also a way to reveal underlying statistical properties of the data. Despite its common use across various stages of data analysis, selecting a good visualization often is a manual process involving many iterations. Recently there has been interest in reducing this effort by developing models that can recommend visualizations, but they are of limited use since they require large training samples (data and visualization pairs) and focus primarily on the design aspects rather than on assessing the effectiveness of the selected visualization. In this paper, we present VizAI, a generative-discriminative framework that first generates various statistical properties of the data from a number of alternative visualizations of the data. It is linked to a discriminative model that selects the visualization that best matches the true statistics of the data being visualized. VizAI can easily be trained with minimal supervision and adapts to settings with varying degrees of supervision easily. Using crowdsourced judgements and a large repository of publicly available visualizations, we demonstrate that VizAI outperforms the state of the art methods that learn to recommend visualizations. Viral Haemorrhagic Fevers (VHF) such as Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) are of increasing concern of in... more Viral Haemorrhagic Fevers (VHF) such as Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) are of increasing concern of increasing concern to clinicians and public heath bodies across Europe and America due to the on-going epidemic in West Africa. We conducted an online study to assess clinicians’ knowledge of VHF across six hospital sites in London. This showed suboptimal knowledge of Public Health England guidance, EVD epidemiology and the risk factors for acquiring VHF. Knowledge about VHF was dependent on seniority of grade with the most junior grade of doctors performing worse in several areas of the survey. Poor knowledge raises concerns that those at risk of VHF will be inappropriately risk stratified and managed. Education of doctors and other healthcare professionals about VHF is necessary to address these knowledge gaps.

It has improved upon the preexisting work by removing MOM type middleware, providing efficient M2M communication by implementing a direct virtual link between the transport layer of the two communicating devices. This smart automation system is ultra-low powered and improves the efficiency and throughput involved in communication. An embedded Linux platform, connected to the Internet through its Ethernet port, is used for the demonstration of this smart automation system. A Web portal interface is used to give commands and receive updates about the result of automation.

But their thermal efficiency is maximum up to 50% so there is much loss of power. So development of six stroke internal combustion engine increases overall thermal efficiency of the engine. In the six stroke engine, first four strokes are same asfour stroke engine, and later two strokes are employed to increase the overall power output. These later two strokes don’t take power from fuel, but take it from the high temperature exhaust gases as well as the superheated cylinder walls. Due to this reason, six stroke engine has higher brake thermal efficiency and there is reduction in the emission of exhaust gases.

Security attacks in these systems can cause indirect and unwanted impacts on the elasticity of platform services. These impacts can often manifest across subsystems and not necessarily remain localized. However, there is a lack of techniques to identify and model cross-layered, cross-system concrete dependencies between specific security attacks and their corresponding elasticity impacts. This paper presents a novel framework SEDAICO that can model the elasticity relationship among IIoT platform services due to a security attack. Secondly, the framework supports the developer to identify concrete dependency between specific security attacks and the corresponding impacts on the elasticity of the platform services. We further illustrate our work with experiments and evaluate the framework through a real-world example. To handle all these challenges integration of smart buildings with CEP and real-time data analytics are emerging as a new area of research. In the present research, a model for real time CEP and analytics have been proposed for Smart-Building at IIIT Allahabad, India. The research work includes background study, data collection, recognizing simple and complex events, stream processing, and automated construction of event definitions using machine learning, event-based real time decision-making and performance tests. The study includes deployment of various sensors and actuators for gathering smart building data. Raspberry Pi board is used to collect data from sensors and communicate the collected data to cloud for analytics. The study uses a set of twenty-three samples belonging to a single vertical core from the Mississippian-age Meramec formation of the mid-continent US. Individual samples had their facies interpreted, composition estimated, He-gas porosity (ΦHe) determined, and P-wave and S-wave transit times systematically measured for dry core-plugs in a 5–40 MPa loading and unloading cycle. Data from the unloading cycle were linearized in the log scale, and the slope of the best fitting line was considered as a representative of the dry-frame VP pressure sensitivity. Objectives: Neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) has been associated with mortality in non-small cel... more Objectives: Neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) has been associated with mortality in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), but its association with recurrence in locally advanced NSCLC (LA-NSCLC), specifically, is less established. We hypothesized preand posttreatment NLR would be associated with recurrence and mortality. Methods: We studied the association of pretreatment NLR (pre-NLR) and posttreatment NLR at 1 (post-NLR 1) and 3 months (post-NLR 3) with outcomes in patients with LA-NSCLC treated with chemoradiation. Pre-NLR was dichotomized by 5, an a priori cutoff previously shown to be prognostic in LA-NSCLC. Post-NLR 1 and post-NLR 3 were dichotomized by their medians. Results: We identified 135 patients treated with chemoradiation for LA-NSCLC between 2007 and 2016. Median follow-up for living patients was 61.1 months. This article investigates the relationship between rock properties (composition, porosity, and po... more This article investigates the relationship between rock properties (composition, porosity, and pore architecture) and dry ultrasonic P-wave velocity (VP) of 14 samples representing three facies of the Mid-Continent Mississippian-age Limestone (Miss Lime) units of North–Central Oklahoma. Generally, in carbonate rocks, what drives VP, in addition to bulk porosity (ϕ) and composition, is not straightforward to determine. In this data set, when samples are categorized based on their facies and composition (quartz fraction), VP shows a better trend with dominant pore size rather than ϕ. Results show the dependence of elastic properties on texture and highlight a need for incorporating pore-size distribution in seismic models used for seismic interpretation of low-permeability reservoirs such as the Miss Lime.

Security attacks in these systems can cause indirect and unwanted impacts on the elasticity of platform services. These impacts can often manifest across subsystems and not necessarily remain localized. However, there is a lack of techniques to identify and model cross-layered, cross-system concrete dependencies between specific security attacks and their corresponding elasticity impacts. This paper presents a novel framework SEDAICO that can model the elasticity relationship among IIoT platform services due to a security attack. Secondly, the framework supports the developer to identify concrete dependency between specific security attacks and the corresponding impacts on the elasticity of the platform services. We further illustrate our work with experiments and evaluate the framework through a real-world example. Smart buildings equipped with sensors and electronic devices as a Cyber Physical Systems (CPS) of... more Smart buildings equipped with sensors and electronic devices as a Cyber Physical Systems (CPS) offer great research perspective to explore communication, computation and controlling of physical devices by using real time Complex Event Processing (CEP) and analytics. Since, CPS like Smart-Building involves the integration of several types of equipment interoperability, maintainability, signaling, bandwidth, reliability, security, privacy, authentications, data storage, heterogeneity and cost effectiveness are the critical issues to be addressed. In addition, interactivity and dynamic feedback, context correlation with respect to streaming events and uncertainties in event composition are also identified as major challenging issues. To handle all these challenges integration of smart buildings with CEP and real-time data analytics are emerging as a new area of research. In the present research, a model for real time CEP and analytics have been proposed for Smart-Building at IIIT Allahabad, India. The research work includes background study, data collection, recognizing simple and complex events, stream processing, and automated construction of event definitions using machine learning, event-based real time decision-making and performance tests. The study includes deployment of various sensors and actuators for gathering smart building data. Raspberry Pi board is used to collect data from sensors and communicate the collected data to cloud for analytics. The research will also highlight the strength, weakness, and challenges addressed in the proposed system.

The study uses a set of twenty-three samples belonging to a single vertical core from the Mississippian-age Meramec formation of the mid-continent US. Individual samples had their facies interpreted, composition estimated, He-gas porosity (ΦHe) determined, and P-wave and S-wave transit times systematically measured for dry core-plugs in a 5–40 MPa loading and unloading cycle. Data from the unloading cycle were linearized in the log scale, and the slope of the best fitting line was considered as a representative of the dry-frame VP pressure sensitivity. A series of photomicrographs from each sample were analyzed using image processing methods to obtain the shape and size of the individual pores, which were mostly in the nanopore (10−6–10–9 m) scale. Objectives: Neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) has been associated with mortality in non-small cel... more Objectives: Neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) has been associated with mortality in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), but its association with recurrence in locally advanced NSCLC (LA-NSCLC), specifically, is less established. We hypothesized preand posttreatment NLR would be associated with recurrence and mortality. Methods: We studied the association of pretreatment NLR (pre-NLR) and posttreatment NLR at 1 (post-NLR 1) and 3 months (post-NLR 3) with outcomes in patients with LA-NSCLC treated with chemoradiation. Pre-NLR was dichotomized by 5, an a priori cutoff previously shown to be prognostic in LA-NSCLC. Post-NLR 1 and post-NLR 3 were dichotomized by their medians. Results: We identified 135 patients treated with chemoradiation for LA-NSCLC between 2007 and 2016. Median follow-up for living patients was 61.1 months. This article investigates the relationship between rock properties (composition, porosity, and po... more This article investigates the relationship between rock properties (composition, porosity, and pore architecture) and dry ultrasonic P-wave velocity (VP) of 14 samples representing three facies of the Mid-Continent Mississippian-age Limestone (Miss Lime) units of North–Central Oklahoma. Generally, in carbonate rocks, what drives VP, in addition to bulk porosity (ϕ) and composition, is not straightforward to determine. In this data set, when samples are categorized based on their facies and composition (quartz fraction), VP shows a better trend with dominant pore size rather than ϕ. Results show the dependence of elastic properties on texture and highlight a need for incorporating pore-size distribution in seismic models used for seismic interpretation of low-permeability reservoirs such as the Miss Lime.
