The categories take into account Baptist divisions based on theology, history, culture, ethnicity, and means – including developmental differences in the Northern and Southern United States, ethnic differences, the Calvinist/ Arminian theological divide, and ideas concerning centralization, including the anti-missions controversy of the 19th century.
