New analytic approaches are required to exploit the full information in serosurvey data.MethodUsing a SARS-CoV-2 anti-Spike (S) protein chemiluminescent microparticle assay, we attained a semi-quantitative measurement of population IgG titres in serial cross-sectional monthly samples of routine blood donations across seven Brazilian state capitals (March 2021-November 2021). In an ecological analysis (unit of analysis: age-city-calendar month) we assessed the relative contributions of prior attack rate and vaccination to antibody titre in blood donors. We compared blood donor anti-S titre across the seven cities during the growth phase of the Delta variant of concern (VOC) and use this to predict the resulting age-standardized incidence of severe COVID-19 cases.ResultsOn average we tested 780 samples per month in each locatio...

This is a cross-sectional study including 76 community-dwelling old adults, which was clinically stratified as sarcopenic or non-sarcopenic, according to the current recommendations. They were submitted to 5-min recordings of successive RR intervals. The analysis of the RR intervals variability was carried out in time (mean RR, RMSSD, pNN50, SDNN and triangular index) and frequency domains (LFnu, HFnu and LF/HF ratio), and with nonlinear methods (SD1, SD2, and D). The parameters of autonomic heart rate modulation (AHRM) were adjusted for potential confounders: sex, diabetes, beta-blockers use, cardiovascular disease, body mass index and physical activity level, smoking habit. Normality of the data was tested by Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and, since most variables did not exhibit a normal distribution the Mann-Whitney test was used to compare the pa...

The exercise has the potential to improve the life of people with schizophrenia improving physical health and alleviating psychiatric symptoms. However, most people with schizophrenia remains sedentary and lack of access to exercise programs are barriers to achieve health benefits. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of exercise on I) the type of intervention in mental health, II) in salivary levels of alpha-amylase and cortisol and serum levels of S100B and BDNF, and on III) the quality of life and selfperception of the physical domain of people with schizophrenia. The sample consisted of 31 females in long-term institutions in the Casa de Saúde Rainha Santa Isabel, with age between 25 and 63, and with diagnosis of schizophrenia according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV-TR). Physical fitness was assessed by the six-minute walk distance test (6MWD). Biological variables were determined by ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay). Psychological variables were assessed using SF-36, PSPP-SCV, RSES and SWLS tests. Walking exercise has a positive impact on physical fitness (6MWDp = 0.001) and physical components of the psychological tests ([SF-36] physical functioning p < 0.05; [PSPP-SCV] functionality p < 0.05 and SWLS p < 0.05 of people with schizophrenia. The walking program enhances the quality of life and self-perception of the physical domain and physical fitness of people with schizophrenia.

Data were collected from the Katz instrument, sociodemographic, Zarit Burden Interview, WHOQOL-bref, and analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression. Results: the majority of caregivers were women, who took care full-time and presented moderate to severe burden. Most caregivers are satisfied with their social relationships and the social support received. It is found that the burden and the time of care correlated with the social relationships domain, which is associated with social support, and consequently, reduced quality of life. Conclusion: social support for caregivers is important to prevent health implications, burden, biopsychosocial stress, and provide favorable conditions for...

Several studies show that biological knowledge is growing at a continuous rate and is usually distributed among many databases. This paper presents an overview of data integration and the existing approaches that aim to solve this problem. The paper will also review the different ontology approaches that were introduced by researchers for representing biological data.

Here we tested monthly blood donation samples for IgG antibodies from March 2020 to March 2021 in eight of Brazil’s most populous cities. There was large variation in the inferred attack rate adjusted for seroreversion across cities, and seroprevalence was consistently smaller in women and donors older than 55 years. The age-specific infection fatality rate differed between cities and consistently increased with age. The infection hospitalisation rate (IHR) increased significantly during the gamma-dominated second wave in Manaus, suggesting increased morbidity of the Gamma VOC compared to previous variants circulating in Manaus. The higher disease penetrance associated with the health system’s collapse increased the overall IFR by a minimum factor of 2.91 (95% CrI 2.43–3.53). These results demonstrate large heterogeneity in epidemic spread and highlight the utility of blood donor serosurvei...

Thus, researchers are proposing applications to handle the data generated in various areas such as healthcare, energy control, and home automation. On the other hand, due to cost and scalability constraints, testing and evaluating these applications in real-world scenarios is a complex and expensive task. Simulation is shown as an effective technique to validate computer networks. This paper presents IoTFogSim, an event-driven simulator that allows developers to simulate IoT-Fog-Cloud-based applications, protocols, and algorithms.
