The effects of parameters on the yield of reaction were investigated. The application of the cavitation technique has improved the process efficiency significantly. The catfish polyester oil yield reached at high value (94.6%) at the inlet pressure of 60 psi, the molar ratio of acetic anhydride/epoxy of 1.25/1, 85°C, and only 10 min, and also under these reaction conditions, magnetic stirring technique could only give the limited yield of catfish oil polyester of 12%. The results of Fourier transform infrared resonance, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and 13C NMR analyses and characteristic properties of materials and products have demonstrated that the chemical structure of polyester catfish oil was triglyceride chains containing saturated alkyl R chains and branched by methyl ester functional groups and the polyester catfish oil ...

The method utilizes nanoscale 3D printing technology to create master structures that can be rapidly duplicated using a soft lithography method. Stamps are made of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) from the master structure and then inked with a mixture of nanoparticles and epoxy to create a 3D negative of the master structure. To demonstrate this method, an array of pyramids comprised of germanium (Ge) nanoparticles and epoxy were produced to function as an antireflective coating in the short wave infrared (SWIR). The antireflective array was tested and compared to 5 commercial low reflective coatings.

The influence of parameters on the reaction yield, including inlet pressure, amount of reactant, temperature, and time were investigated. The results obtained have demonstrated the outstanding efficiency of applying the cavitation technique to the chemical synthesis process. The optimum conditions of ring-opening reaction of epoxy catfish oil (ECFO) were as follows: 60 psi, the molar ratio of iso-propanol/epoxy ring of 1.75/1, 75°C, time of 7 min, and the yield reached 91.3%. The results of FT-IR, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR analysis showed that the chemical conversion of double bonds (C═C) of CFF were converted to functional groups of hydroxyl and ether in polyol catfish oil (CFO) products through the intermediate stage of the formation of the epoxy ring. We previously reported on a diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating that exhibited extremely low outgassing for high vacuum applications1. The nature of the plasma deposition process limits the shapes that can be coated to flat plates or openended tubes. Additionally, the IR reflectivity, though low, is highly specular, which can be problematical in certain situations. We have since examined a number of other surface treatments including paints and electrodeposited coatings using a hemispherical directional reflectometer. Specular and diffuse reflectance is reported as functions of wavelength and incidence angle. Some vacuum considerations will be discussed. We show the application of black coatings to the design of a light trap/air vent.
Multispectral (MSI) and hyperspectral (HSI) imaging spectrometers have become essential tools for... more Multispectral (MSI) and hyperspectral (HSI) imaging spectrometers have become essential tools for various applications from agricultural to defense. It is imperative to assess the performance of multi-spectral performance in relevant environmental locations. However, these techniques can be time consuming, expensive, and often a difficult process to assess the spectral properties in the relevant environments and terrains. Therefore, an alternate test methodology will be explored, such as, the utilization of laboratory analysis for predictive means. The method will not replace the need for actual testing, but can reduce the need for such testing. The methodology will utilize a fully spectrally characterized environment and terrain, which will be compared to laboratory measurements across the full spectrum. The correlated results will be described and the effectiveness of the methodology will be assessed.

Synergetic catalytic effect of molybdenium (Mo) and chromnium (Cr) ions on HZSM-5 support have be... more Synergetic catalytic effect of molybdenium (Mo) and chromnium (Cr) ions on HZSM-5 support have been carried out. The catalyst of MoCr/HZSM-5 have been tested for iszomerization of n-hexane based on non-hydrogen reaction. The results showed that the catalytic synthesis by impregnating Mo and Cr on HZSM-5 support with the suitable amount ( Mo:10 %; Cr:3 %) did not change the basis structure of HZSM-5. The catalytic effect of Mo, Cr have been showed by catalytic testing results, for that the isoparaffin selectivity of MoCr/HZSM-5 is 46.5 % higher than in the case of Mo/HZSM-5 (43.56 %). The synergystic catalytic activity was clearly expressed by the dehydrogenation and hydrogenation role of Cr enhancing the stability of isomerization effect of Mo on MoCr/HZSM-5 catalyst for n-hexane’s isomerization reaction. The main concern in converting sugarcane bagasse to bio-butanol fuel is the conversion of the pol... more The main concern in converting sugarcane bagasse to bio-butanol fuel is the conversion of the polysaccharides by enzymatic breakdown into monosaccharides. This study focused on the use of steam explosion as a pretreatment method. Steam explosion treatment of biomass had been previously used to increase cellulose accessibility [1,3,5,6,8,9]. Following steam explosion pretreatment, sugarcane bagasse was subjected to enzymatic hydrolysis employing the Acremonium Cellulase as the reactant. The sugars released by enzymatic hydrolysis were further fermented by Clostridium Beijerinckii. Raw sugarcane bagasse was found to have the polysaccharides content of 56.24%. The fiber loss during the steam explosion treatment was high, up to 67.11%. Steam explosion treatment on sugarcane bagasse increased the enzymatic hydrolysis capability of cellulose. After steam explosion treatment at temperature of 224 o C for 2 minutes, the cellulose hydrolysis conversion efficiency could reach 98.04% by applying Acremonium Cellulase for 72 hours. It has been stated that steam explosion was suitable to improve cellulose content and consequently improve fermentable glucose yield from enzymatic hydrolysis while drastically reducing hemicellulose content of the fibers. Butanol has been successfully produced from the sugarcane bagasse hydrolysate in acetone-butanol-ethanol (ABE) process applying C. Beijerinckii.

The results demonstrate that the domestic gas industry cannot meet the market requirement, the inadequacy is estimated of 30%. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminal installation for import is considered as a feasible solution to the problem. However, the major barrier is that the gas pipeline system is discrete in the whole country, the configuration of LNG receiving terminal must be therefore selected and designed reasonably. By analysis, Vietnamese LNG market is a high potential in 2016–2035 phase.

The effects of triethylamine (TEA) and n-hexanol on E5 and E10 phase separation were also reported. Data from this study implied that E5 and E10 biofuels were effectively stable for 90 days under Vietnam standard biofuels storage condition with no phase separation observed. The presence of TEA in these two biofuels showed the reduction of water absorption capacity of E5 and E10 during storage. Specifically, 0,15% (v/v) of TEA in E5 and E10 resulted approximately 50% reduction of water absorption capacity compared to E5 and E10 without TEA additives. Addition of 0,15% (v/v) of TEA and 1,5% (v/v) of n-hexanol in E10 resulted a higher water content of 11% for phase separation to occur, which was relatively higher than the current E10 under the same condition. Improving the productivity of gasification process and its syngas product utility value has been ... more Improving the productivity of gasification process and its syngas product utility value has been carried out by applying the dolomite catalyst method. This research has been tested on pilot scale which is manufactured and installed based on the updraft gasification technology principle. Dolomite catalyst is mixed with rice husk. Research results showed that with 15 % w dolomite catalyst used and gasificated by is air with 3 m3/h flow, the gasification producvity is improved up to 23.45 % comprared with the case of without catalyst (7.76 %). The syngas productivity and its energy value is 67% and 3.36 MJ/Kg, respectively. The ratio of H2 and CO of syngas product is also improved. The syngas product is similar to syngas standard which could be directly used for gaz generator.

To improve the quality and the quantity of BHD, the synthesis co-doping of Ni, Cu on CoMo/TiO2 catalyst and catalytic performance were investiagated. The catalytic performance of various Ni, Cu- CoMo/TiO2 catalysts were studied for the hydrodeoxygention reaction at a range of temperature 300-350 oC. Compared with the hydrodeoxygention reaction with CoMo/TiO2 catalyst, the cetane number of BHD and the conversion reaction were higher when the co-doping catalyst was used. In addition, the quantity of BHD was increased 3-5 % vol when the hydrodeoxygenation reaction was done with co-doping Cu-CoMo/TiO2 catalyst.

Existing methodologies can test for significant pairwise associations between two genomic intervals; however, they cannot test for associations involving multiple sets of intervals. This limits our ability to uncover more complex, yet biologically important associations between multiple sets of genomic features. We introduce GINOM (Genomic INterval Overlap Model), a new method that enables testing of significant associations between multiple genomic features. We demonstrate GINOM's ability to identify higher-order associations with both simulated and real data. In particular, we used GINOM to explore L1 retrotransposable element insertion bias in lung cancer and found a significant pairwise association between L1 insertions and heterochromatic marks. We present a multiscale approach for identifying features in ocean beds by solving inverse proble... more We present a multiscale approach for identifying features in ocean beds by solving inverse problems in high frequency seafloor acoustics. The setting is based on Sound Navigation And Ranging (SONAR) imaging used in scientific, commercial, and military applications. The forward model incorporates multiscale simulations, by coupling Helmholtz equations and geometrical optics for a wide range of spatial scales in the seafloor geometry. This allows for detailed recovery of seafloor parameters including material type. Simulated backscattered data is generated using numerical microlocal analysis techniques. In order to lower the computational cost of the large-scale simulations in the inversion process, we take advantage of a pre-computed library of representative acoustic responses from various seafloor parameterizations.

The main concern in converting sugarcane bagasse to bio-butanol fuel is the conversion of the pol... more The main concern in converting sugarcane bagasse to bio-butanol fuel is the conversion of the polysaccharides by enzymatic breakdown into monosaccharides. This study focused on the use of steam explosion as a pretreatment method. Steam explosion treatment of biomass had been previously used to increase cellulose accessibility [1,3,5,6,8,9]. Following steam explosion pretreatment, sugarcane bagasse was subjected to enzymatic hydrolysis employing the Acremonium Cellulase as the reactant. The sugars released by enzymatic hydrolysis were further fermented by Clostridium Beijerinckii. Raw sugarcane bagasse was found to have the polysaccharides content of 56.24%. The fiber loss during the steam explosion treatment was high, up to 67.11%. Steam explosion treatment on sugarcane bagasse increased the enzymatic hydrolysis capability of cellulose. After steam explosion treatment at temperature of 224 o C for 2 minutes, the cellulose hydrolysis conversion efficiency could reach 98.04% by applying Acremonium Cellulase for 72 hours. It has been stated that steam explosion was suitable to improve cellulose content and consequently improve fermentable glucose yield from enzymatic hydrolysis while drastically reducing hemicellulose content of the fibers. Butanol has been successfully produced from the sugarcane bagasse hydrolysate in acetone-butanol-ethanol (ABE) process applying C. Beijerinckii.

The results demonstrate that the domestic gas industry cannot meet the market requirement, the inadequacy is estimated of 30%. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminal installation for import is considered as a feasible solution to the problem. However, the major barrier is that the gas pipeline system is discrete in the whole country, the configuration of LNG receiving terminal must be therefore selected and designed reasonably. By analysis, Vietnamese LNG market is a high potential in 2016–2035 phase.

The effects of triethylamine (TEA) and n-hexanol on E5 and E10 phase separation were also reported. Data from this study implied that E5 and E10 biofuels were effectively stable for 90 days under Vietnam standard biofuels storage condition with no phase separation observed. The presence of TEA in these two biofuels showed the reduction of water absorption capacity of E5 and E10 during storage. Specifically, 0,15% (v/v) of TEA in E5 and E10 resulted approximately 50% reduction of water absorption capacity compared to E5 and E10 without TEA additives. Addition of 0,15% (v/v) of TEA and 1,5% (v/v) of n-hexanol in E10 resulted a higher water content of 11% for phase separation to occur, which was relatively higher than the current E10 under the same condition. Improving the productivity of gasification process and its syngas product utility value has been ... more Improving the productivity of gasification process and its syngas product utility value has been carried out by applying the dolomite catalyst method. This research has been tested on pilot scale which is manufactured and installed based on the updraft gasification technology principle. Dolomite catalyst is mixed with rice husk. Research results showed that with 15 % w dolomite catalyst used and gasificated by is air with 3 m3/h flow, the gasification producvity is improved up to 23.45 % comprared with the case of without catalyst (7.76 %). The syngas productivity and its energy value is 67% and 3.36 MJ/Kg, respectively. The ratio of H2 and CO of syngas product is also improved. The syngas product is similar to syngas standard which could be directly used for gaz generator.

To improve the quality and the quantity of BHD, the synthesis co-doping of Ni, Cu on CoMo/TiO2 catalyst and catalytic performance were investiagated. The catalytic performance of various Ni, Cu- CoMo/TiO2 catalysts were studied for the hydrodeoxygention reaction at a range of temperature 300-350 oC. Compared with the hydrodeoxygention reaction with CoMo/TiO2 catalyst, the cetane number of BHD and the conversion reaction were higher when the co-doping catalyst was used. In addition, the quantity of BHD was increased 3-5 % vol when the hydrodeoxygenation reaction was done with co-doping Cu-CoMo/TiO2 catalyst.

Existing methodologies can test for significant pairwise associations between two genomic intervals; however, they cannot test for associations involving multiple sets of intervals. This limits our ability to uncover more complex, yet biologically important associations between multiple sets of genomic features. We introduce GINOM (Genomic INterval Overlap Model), a new method that enables testing of significant associations between multiple genomic features. We demonstrate GINOM's ability to identify higher-order associations with both simulated and real data. In particular, we used GINOM to explore L1 retrotransposable element insertion bias in lung cancer and found a significant pairwise association between L1 insertions and heterochromatic marks. We present a multiscale approach for identifying features in ocean beds by solving inverse proble... more We present a multiscale approach for identifying features in ocean beds by solving inverse problems in high frequency seafloor acoustics. The setting is based on Sound Navigation And Ranging (SONAR) imaging used in scientific, commercial, and military applications. The forward model incorporates multiscale simulations, by coupling Helmholtz equations and geometrical optics for a wide range of spatial scales in the seafloor geometry. This allows for detailed recovery of seafloor parameters including material type. Simulated backscattered data is generated using numerical microlocal analysis techniques. In order to lower the computational cost of the large-scale simulations in the inversion process, we take advantage of a pre-computed library of representative acoustic responses from various seafloor parameterizations.
