The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of diode laser as an adjunct to mechanical debridement in periodontal flap surgery, on the basis of clinical parameters and microbiological analysis. Materials and methods: A total of 30 patients with generalized chronic periodontitis with probing depth > 5 mm after phase I therapy were included in the study. Diode laser was used as an adjunct to open flap debridement (test) as compared with conventional flap surgery (control) in a split-mouth study design. Clinical parameters (plaque and gingival index, probing depth and relative clinical attachment level) and subgingival plaque samples of test and control groups were analyzed at baseline and 3 months post-therapy. Visual analogue scale (VAS) was used to determine patient discomfort intraoperatively and after 1 week. Results: The difference between the clinical parameters in the test and control groups did not reach a statistical significance. However, there was a statistically significant reduction in colony forming units (CFU) of obligate anaerobes in the test group as compared with the control group. The diode laser was well tolerated by the patients, as determined by the VAS. Conclusions: The bactericidal effect of the diode laser was clearly evident by greater reduction of CFU of obligate anaerobes in the test group than in the control group.

Hence, this study evaluated the efficacy of subepithelial connective tissue graft (SCTG) and PRF in surgical reconstruction of interdental papillae using Han and Takei technique. Materials and Methods: A total of 20 sites with Class I and Class II interdental papilla defects were assigned to two groups (Group 1 – Han and Takie technique + SCTG and Group 2 – Han and Takie technique + PRF). Parameters such as papillary height (PH), distance from the contact point to the tip of papillae (CPTP), papilla presence index (PPI), pocket probing depth (PPD), relative clinical attachment level (RCAL), plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), and distance from contact point to alveolar crest (CP-BC) were measured at baseline and after 3 months. The significance of difference within and between the groups was evaluated with paired and unpaired t-tests. Results: The mean PI, GI, PPD, RCAL, PPI, and CPTP distance decreased significantly, whereas the mean PH increased significantly in Group 1 as well as in Group 2. After 3 months, mean reduction in CPTP distance and mean gain in PH were statistically significant in Group 1 as compared to Group 2. However, there was no significant difference in mean CPBC distance between baseline and 3 months in Group 1 as well as in Group 2. Conclusion: Both the techniques were effective in the treatment of papillary recession defects; however, more significant clinical papillary enhancement was achieved after the surgical reconstruction with SCTG.

This is achieved by angiogenesis, which is defined as the process by which new blood vessels are produced by sprouting from preexisting vasculature. There is a large spectrum of physiological and pathological processes in which angiogenesis occur, ranging from tissue hypertrophy, wound healing, and inflammation to tumors. Our results showed significant differences between all the three parameters, that is, MVD, MVA and TVA when poorly differentiated OSCC was compared with the normal mucosa, well- and moderately-differentiated OSCC. However, when comparison was made between the well- and moderately-differentiated OSCC, the differences in the three parameters were present but not statistically significant. There was an increased MVD, MVA and TVA in poorly differentiated OSCC, which could be used as an additional criterion to histologically grade the tumor.

Group mean for MVD, TVA and MVA were calculated for 10 cases of each group. &amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;quot;Student&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;#39;s t-test&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;quot; was applied to assess the intergroup variation of mean values of MVD, TVA, and MVA.
