The errors occurred in both authentic English as a Second Language (ESL) compositions and simple sentences we generated ourselves. We verified the performance in terms of (1) coverage (rates of error detection), (2) accuracy of proposed replacement forms, and (3) ‘false alarms’ (forms mistakenly flagged as incorrect). To the extent GCs provide accurate and comprehensive corrective feedback, they could relieve teachers of the time-consuming task of providing written feedback themselves. While inaccurate replacement forms and false alarms are relatively rare, we found GCs to have poor overall coverage (total error detection rates under 50%). Grammarly and Virtual Writing Tutor, however, outperform Microsoft Word. Coverage is also higher both for certain categories of error and for the sentence...

The clinical findings are nonspecific, reflecting only in the intramedullary location of these lesions. The potential differential diagnosis for intramedullary spinal teratomas include schwannomas, dermoids, epidermoids, and neurofibromas. Case Description: A 25-year-old male presented with RLE weakness (iliopsoas/quadriceps [4/5], and extensor hallucis longus/dorsiflexor [0/5]) and urinary incontinence. As the contrast, MR showed a heterogeneous intramedullary lesion with well-defined edges located at the T12-L1 level, the patient underwent a focal laminectomy for gross total tumor excision. Pathologically, it proved to be a mature teratoma. Conclusion: Teratomas should be considered among the differential diagnostic considerations for intramedullary spinal cord lesions. Although gross total resection is preferred, these lesions have a low recurrence rate, and therefore, partial removal is also valid, where lesions are densely adhere...

It rarely arises in the spine, where it can cause mild symptoms such as backache all the way up to compressive myelopathy. Malignant transformation has also been reported. Here, the authors present a 52-year-old male with myelopathy attributed to a rare thoracic solitary osteochondroma. Case Description: A 52-year-old male presented back pain radiating into both lower extremities with paresthesia to the toes of 1 year’s duration. On examination, he exhibited hyperactive bilateral lower extremity reflexes with bilateral Babinski signs, and focal sensory changes to pin, and touch appreciation in the left L5S1 distributions. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging showed an abnormal bony mass arising from the posterior arch of T10 with protrusion into the spinal canal resulting in marked canal/cord compression. Surgery included a D10 laminectomy with en bloc resection of the lesion. Postoperativ...

Women need physical and psychological support to withstand stress. Having a labour companion provides multiple benefits and is recommended by World Health Organization. The objective of the study was to seek opinions of pregnant women regarding their desire and choice of labour companion, so that labour room policy can be changed in favour of allowing labour companion. Material and methods: A questionnaire based cross sectional study was carried out at Pravara Rural Hospital, Loni, Ahmednagar over a period of 2 months. Two hundred women in early labour were interviewed using a pretested and validated questionnaire. Information on socio cultural aspects, obstetric history and their desire and choice of labour companion was collected and analysed. Results: Majority of the women belonged to middle and lower socio economic class, in the age group below 25 years, were less educated and had early marriages. Fifty percent were Primigravid as and seventy percent were registered cases. Ninety percent women expressed their desire to have labour companion. Fifty percent chose mother as first choice to be the labour companion.Ten percent did not wish to have a labour companion. Most common reasons for choosing a labour companion was for psychological support (42%), reduction of labour pains(21%), reduction of fear and apprehension(12%), feeling of strength and encouragement (7%) and to have a smooth delivery process. Conclusion: Study revealed a strong desire by pregnant women in labour for having a labour companion. Mother was the first choice to be the labour companion. Women expressed that labour companion will give them support, will lessen their trouble, pain and apprehension, will give them extra power and strength to withstand the labour stress. All maternity hospitals should reconsider their policies in favour of allowing labour companion.

One aim is to investigate conflicting views on the syllabification of consonants in various word-medial and final contexts, where they can be parsed as either codas or onsets of empty nuclei. Another aim is to test a proposal (Authors, 2017) concerning the source of L2 phonological variation: we suggest that L2 variation is lexical rather than derivational, stemming from individual items having dual underlying representations which compete for selection at the moment of speaking. The results of a multivariate statistical analysis indicate: i) a hierarchy of difficulty in the acquisition of the stops /p k/ in different lexical locations; and ii) simultaneous development of dual representations for single lexical items.

In addition to challenges associated with mapping 2D information to a 3D space, the process involves exposure to ionizing radiation. Three-dimensional ultrasound has been suggested as an alternative imaging tool for this procedure; however, it has not yet been integrated into clinical routine since ultrasound only provides a limited view of the scaphoid and its surrounding anatomy. We propose a registration of a statistical wrist shape + scale + pose model to a preoperative CT and intraoperative ultrasound to derive a patient-specific 3D model for guiding scaphoid fracture fixation. The registered model is then used to determine clinically important intervention parameters, including the screw length and the trajectory of screw insertio...
