Due to the complex nature of subsea production networks and control systems, there is need to possess absolute control expertise from subsea operators to control flow of fluids from satellite subsea trees to jumpers, subsea manifolds, risers and topside for processing. Wells are tested regularly in subsea systems, and it is observed that shortfalls occur each time a production well is switched or transferred from one production branch to the other. It is important however to qualitatively review the current methodology of subsea switching and the associated shortfall issues in an attempt to reduce payback period and enhance return on investment.
This research reviews subsea networks and control systems, provides improved subsea switch method with cost benefit analysis of minimized shortfalls and investigation of overall control of wells and riser system. It also reviews the importance of controlling the reservoir fluids flowrate by modeling a well and reservoir to show effects varying parameters have on reservoir production level. This will constitute decision-making tool on the production management and well performance in subsea fields.
