Conversely, ecounselling is offered in many countries even though some experts disagree with its effectiveness and ethicality. The study, thus, purposed to gain a deeper understanding of students' values and challenges of face-to-face and e-counselling in Ghanaian universities. Therefore, a cross-sectional survey design was adopted. A standardized instrument: Online and Face-to-face Counselling Attitudes Scales, and a Satisfaction Questionnaire were adapted for the data collection. T-test and multiple linear regression were used to analyse data set from 384 students. Findings revealed that although technological devices are largely accessible, students value face-to-face counselling than e-counselling. However, their inclination to e-counselling cannot be overlooked. Also, there was no significant difference in students' values to ecounselling for gender. Again, the male students value face-to-face counselling more as compared to female students. The multiple regression revealed that values of face-to-face and e-counselling predicated satisfaction to face-to-face and e-counselling respectively. It is recommended that university counselling practitioners should enhance the use of face-to-face counselling and train in e-counselling so that students will be offered options in counselling services.

In the Winneba municipality in Ghana for instance, it has been noted that majority of the students in the senior high schools, come from different regions who attend school in this municipality. As a result, it has been noted that they spend most of their time with their peers than with their parents; since they are resident students. In view of that it is assumed their peers have great influence on their behaviours. It is upon this note that the researcher would like to investigate into peer support mediating adolescents' psychosocial problems and their self-concept. This analysis should help counsellors to be aware of the prevailing psychosocial problems of adolescents in the municipality and thereby find ways of improving their services to assist them in their schools. It should help creat...

In light of this, we examined the predictive roles of neglectful parenting and personality traits on malevolent creativity. The cross-sectional design was used to survey 623 participants. Data for the study were collected with adapted neglectful parenting, personality traits, and malevolent creativity scales. The data were analysed inferentially with CB-SEM. The study revealed positive predictions of physical and emotional neglect on hurting people, lying, and playing tricks as aspects of malevolent creativity. Furthermore, conscientious personality trait predicted higher on hurting people, lying, and playing tricks as aspects of malevolent creativity. We concluded that neglectful parenting and improper parenting can bring about unacceptable behaviours among people as many of the victims might become a social canker. Therefore, families and significant others in communities should be taken through strategies in preventing irregular parenting and moderated personality dispositions before they develop into unacceptable behaviours that might ruin the gains of society.

Observation and interview were used in gathering data from 26 kindergarten teachers. It was found that KG teachers used variety of instructional materials; such as crown corks, sea shells, boxes and cans. It was also found that they often use the instructional materials during teaching and learning and that the materials are interactive due to the fact that it enables the pupils to understand a concept better. It is therefore recommended that teachers should endeavour to use other types of instructional materials such as audiovisual aids to advance the teaching and learning process. Again, teachers should use variety of instructional materials and teaching methods instead of sticking to one particular material and process during teaching. Also, in-s...

Its structure can either be a small family size (nuclear family structure) or a much broader family size (extended family structure). Traditionally, Africans tend to revere and arrange their lives around the extended family line whose membership include, spouses and their children together with other relations of common descent such as grandparents, uncles, aunties, nephews, nieces and cousins. Social change in modern times has however, cause great transformation in every area of society with the family not spared. This study therefore aims at finding out the state of the extended family in the midst of these changes in society. Methodologically, a qualitative research technique was employed with participants selected from Teshie and Nungua Townships, within the Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. Open-ended questionnaires and face-to-face interviews were the main data c...

The population for the study comprised all teenage mothers in Otumi community. The sample size comprised sixty teenage mothers from Otumi community in the Kwaebibirim District of the Eastern Region of Ghana. The study aimed at finding whether the level of depression varied with age, socioeconomic status and marital status of non-clinical teenage mothers. The main instrument used for the collection of the data was the Beck Depression Inventory, and the data collected was analyzed and presented in descriptive and inferential statistic form using frequencies, t-test tables and percentages. The result of the study revealed that age, socioeconomic status and marital status has significant relationship with the level of depression among the mothers. It was evident from the study that young teenage mothers, teenage mothers from low socioeconomic background and teenage mothers who are single suffer high level of depression...

Food, though a physiological necessity and required for good health and functionality, also contributes to the social, cultural, psychological and emotional well-being of our lives. There is no doubt that relationships contribute to how, what and when people eat. This chapter will review the impact of how different categories and levels of interpersonal relationships impact on the development of dietary habits among people. Additionally the chapter will explore how the advent of the novel corona virus, covid-19 has impacted on interpersonal relationships and consequently on dietary habits.

Twenty-first-century boom in technology has offered new opportunities for counseling practice, making it possible for counselors and clients to interact virtually without recourse to physical meetings. This study sought to investigate students’ experiences of online counseling in some Ghanaian universities. A qualitative phenomenological approach was used to examine the experiences of undergraduate students using online counseling. Five of the student-clients used WhatsApp messaging, two used e-mailing, and one used WhatsApp video. A thematic approach was used to analyze student-clients’ experiences. Accessibility, convenience, privacy, and mobility were some significant benefits they indicated concerning online counseling. On the contrary, loss of non-verbal cues, mistrust, and poor internet connectivity were their major obstacles to online counseling. Nevertheless, their issues were resolved with the use...

One hundred (100) liberated trokosi slaves aged between 10 and 41 years were randomly selected from international Needs Vocational Training Centre at Adidome to answer the questionnaires for the study. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between age and type of stigma experienced, however there was a significant statistical relationship between self-esteem and physical isolation but not for loss of identity, verbal stigma and loss of access to resources. Forced entry regression of self-esteem on physical isolation, loss of identity, verbal stigma and loss of access to resources showed that physical isolation was the best predictor of self-esteem. Findings are discussed in the light of how stigmatization and self-esteem affect social reintegration of liberated Trokosi women. Recommendations have been given on what needs to be done to completely end the practice and how the liberated Trokosi women can be integrated into their communities.

Cross-sectional survey designs employing both quantitative and qualitative approaches were adopted for the study. Simple random sampling was used to select 163 lecturers from the four oldest public universities in Ghana. Celep's (2000) Organisational Commitment questionnaire and the Job Satisfaction questionnaire which is unknown were adopted for data collection. Also, an open ended questionnaire was used based on the research questions. The open-ended questions were used to buttress the large quantitative responses to ascertain the validity of the responses given. Findings revealed that there was no significant sex difference in job satisfaction and organizational commitment among the lecturers. Correlational analysis also revealed that job satisfaction correlated significantly with organizational commitment (i.e. commitment to occupation, commitment to school and relationship with lecturers). On the contrary, 'commitment to teaching' did not significantly correlate with job satisfaction. Interestingly, this problem of construct validity was confirmed when the qualitative response to whether the lecturers in our study sample were satisfied with their jobs elicited positive responses. Multiple regression analysis revealed that both Commitment to school and Commitment to teaching predicted job satisfaction. Findings were therefore discussed in relation to the recommendations and limitations given in this study.

A random selection of 150 students from a population of senior high school students in Ghana were asked to complete the Eating Habits Questionnaire for Adolescents. Data were analyzed by the use of bivariate correlation, t test, and multiple regression analytical techniques using SPSS version 16. The findings revealed a significant positive relationship between peer influence and eating habits suggesting that the higher the peer pressure, the more unhealthy the students’ eating habits. Counterintuitively, parental and media influences did not significantly correlate with students’ eating habits. Gender difference in eating habits suggested that girls had more unhealthy eating habits than boys. Finally, multiple regression analysis revealed that peer influence was a better predictor of students’ eating habits than parental and media influences...

The importance of education is true not only because education is an entry point to other opportunities, but also because the educational achievements of women can have ripple effects within the families and across generations. However, the effect of the inadequate support system in the University and home on academic performance, childcare and other domestic chores cannot be overemphasised. The purpose of this study was, therefore, to investigate the challenges encountered in school and the home and also to explore the perceived coping strategies adopted by student nursing mothers in a tertiary institution in Ghana. A qualitative approach using the descriptive phenomenological design was adopted. Eighteen participants were drawn from an accessible population of 30 student nursing mothers using a purposive and snowballing sampling method. The study employed a thematic approach to analyze student nursing mothers' responses to interviews conducted. The study revealed a lack of concentration, lack of time to study and unfriendly lecture schedule as some challenging experiences of the mothers. On home challenges, student nursing mothers experienced a decline in marital happiness and inadequate care of older kids. Based on these findings, it may be deduced that the programme structure of the university programmes is not student mother-friendly and that student nursing mothers may have problems with grades and psychological wellbeing. Again, there may be some lack of lactating resources in the institution which students' mothers may have utilized to ease the pressure in nursing of their babies. Recommendations were therefore given in light of the study.
