Seven of the most frequently used pre-mixed repair mortars available on the Italian market have been tested according to the recent EN 1504 European Standards on "Products and systems for the protection and repair of concrete structures", and by using other specific test methods. The objective was to evaluate the durability of concrete repair work through laboratory and field tests that quantify the parameters most likely to influence performance. Cracking risk factor and debonding risk factor have been proposed as performance evaluation indexes. Correct understanding and awareness of these two factors can help design engineers to choose a repair system with a reduced risk of failure.

The greater part of pre-mixed products and systems for the restoration of materials available in the market requires a critical revision of the technologies involved in order to guarantee the durability of repaired concrete surfaces. Seven of the most frequently used pre-mixed repair mortars (both quick hardening and not) available in the Italian market were characterized according to the recent UNI EN 1504-9 European Standards on: Products and Systems for the Protection and Repair of Concrete Structures and other specific test methods. The objective was to evaluate the durability of the concrete repair work through laboratory and field tests. The cracking and delamination risk factors are proposed as indices for measuring risks in the durability of the material. The experimental part of the research lists the UNI standard characterization procedures carried out on the premixed ceme...

Effective methods of control consist on programmed inspections. Inspection activities are characterized by structured controls over historical buildings, such as visual inspections, required to evaluate periodically the state of conservation of buildings or their components, to identify the most evident critical situations, to check the conditions of accessibility and maintenance. KEY-WORD: preventive conservation, maintenance, visual inspections, restoration.
