A quantitative derivation was made for the model case when there is a step on the object surface. It was shown that the resolution is deteriorated asymmetrically relative to the step. The effect sets a practical limit to the ultimate lateral resolution obtainable in an emission electron microscope.

This paper presents an Arduino-based system which automatically monitors the physical conditions ... more This paper presents an Arduino-based system which automatically monitors the physical conditions of a greenhouse and controls or regulates those physical conditions accordingly. The system measures the humidity, temperature, soil moisture, etc., of the greenhouse and accordingly controls the various components automatically. Different sensors such as soil moisture, temperature, humidity and LDR are used for measuring the environmental data of greenhouse. Measured data are compared with the standard value favorable for the desired plant/crop, and accordingly components such as heater, exhaust fan and water pump are activated with the help of relays. Greenhouse gardening is spreading widely; hence, using this automatic control system will be very useful for farmers and can contribute to improve productivity and quality of crops.

Aim: To investigate functional and radiological results of Zimmer natural nails in the management of unstable intertrochanteric fractures. Materials and Methods: A longitudinal prospective study of 99 patients with unstable intertrochanteric fractures was carried out. All patients underwent closed reduction and internal fixation with 180 mm short Zimmer natural nails. Follow-up visits were scheduled for six weeks, three months, and six months for radiological healing and mobility measurements using RUSH and Parker scores, respectively. Statistical analysis was performed using Chi-square and ANOVA. Results: Mean age of patients was 69.77±11.47 years with a male to female ratio of 1:1. A majority of patients had co-morbidities l...
With the outburst of available data, Definition Extraction has emerged as an important technique ... more With the outburst of available data, Definition Extraction has emerged as an important technique as it is a precursor to many other tasks like ontology generation, glossary creation, and question answering. Definition Extraction is most commonly treated as a binary classification problem of definitional and non-definitional sentences. Traditional techniques for definition extraction involve rule-based approaches, which did not yield good results because of the overwhelming complexity of natural language. Incorporating linguistic information via syntactic dependencies turned out to be useful in identifying sentences containing a definition. In this paper, we explore the performance of Transformer based architectures, like Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT), which produce state-of-the-art results on many Natural Language Processing (NLP) tasks. Experiments on an annotated dataset of definitional sentences prove that BERT obtains results comparable to the st...
We present our systems submitted for the shared tasks of Acronym Identification (AI) and Acronym ... more We present our systems submitted for the shared tasks of Acronym Identification (AI) and Acronym Disambiguation (AD) held under Workshop on SDU. We mainly experiment with BERT and SciBERT. In addition, we assess the effectiveness of “BIOless” tagging and blending along with the prowess of ensembling in AI. For AD, we formulate the problem as a span prediction task, experiment with different training techniques and also leverage the use of external data. Our systems rank 11 and 3 in AI and AD tasks respectively.

Computer-based safety-critical systems (CBSCS), found in automotive, nuclear power plants (NPP), ... more Computer-based safety-critical systems (CBSCS), found in automotive, nuclear power plants (NPP), space, health-care, etc. rely mainly on functional requirements and timing correctness. These systems are highly reactive and concurrent and demand not only safe and reliable systems but systems that remain secure and availabel while under attacks. Researchers and academicians have proposed various software reliability growth models (SRGM) and probabilistic models to quantify reliability and other dependability attributes. However, SRGM and the probabilistic models' accuracy depend on the sufficiency of failure data. The SCS development model follows rigorous design and development steps. Therefore, a very less number of failures occur during the testing or operational phase. Due to the non-sufficiency of failure data, the existing reliability growth models or the probabilistic models fail to accurately estimate or predict the reliability accurately. This paper presents a novel approach towards predicting the reliability of an SCS using the Bayesian Belief Network Model (BBN). The current approach takes the quality attributes of each and every phase of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) model and hence gives a more accurate estimation.

Spam emails affect all the three, thus degrade the overall efficiency of the system. Spammers are using new tricks and traps to land these frivolous mails into our inbox. To make mailboxes more intelligent, our effort will be to devise a new algorithm that will help to classify emails in much smarter and efficient way. This paper analyzes various spam classification techniques and thereby put forward a new way of classifying spam emails. This paper thoroughly compares the results that various authors have got while simulating their architectures. Our approach of classification works efficiently and more accurately on varied length and type of datasets during training and testing phases. We tried to minimize the error ratio and increase classifier efficiency by implementing Genetic Algorithm concept.

We further propose a joint model of BERT and Text Level Graph Convolutional Network so as to incorporate dependencies into the model. Our proposed model produces better results than BERT and achieves comparable results to BERT with fine tuned language model in DeftEval (Task 6 of SemEval 2020), a shared task of classifying whether a sentence contains a definition or not (Subtask 1).

Non-functional requirements are essentially important and play vital role for applications rangin... more Non-functional requirements are essentially important and play vital role for applications ranging from safety-critical systems (SCS) to simple gaming applications to ensure their quality. SCS demands not only for safe and reliable systems but systems those remain safe and available while under attacks. Availability analysis approaches include, but are not limited to cluster technique, Markov based chain models, Reliability Block Diagrams (RBD), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Flow Network. The classical approaches fail to account for the comprehensive and accurate analysis of the diverse characteristics such as temporal behavior of systems, uncertainty in system behavior and failure data, functional dependencies among components and multiple failure modes for components or systems. This paper presents a novel approach for the availability analysis of a Digital Feed Water Control System (DFWCS) of nuclear power plant, which considers the maintenance and repair of the main-steam safety valves. The approach will be useful when no operational profile data is available for that. The system has been modeled using Stochastic Petri Net capturing all the system requirements along with the partial failures of its subsystems and common-cause failures and analyzed using TimeNet tool. The proposed methodology proves to be efficient and overcomes the limitations of the traditional approaches and the Markov model approach as it computes the state-transition probabilities, rather than assuming or qualitatively assessing it.

The transition from analog to digital safety-critical instrumentation and control (I&C) systems h... more The transition from analog to digital safety-critical instrumentation and control (I&C) systems has introduced new challenges for software experts to deliver increased software reliability. Since the 1970s, researchers are continuing to propose software reliability models for reliability estimation of software. However, these approaches rely on the failure history for the assessment of reliability. Due to insufficient failure data, these models fail to predict the reliability of safety critical systems. This paper utilizes the Bayesian update methodology and proposes a framework for the reliability assessment of the safety-critical systems (SCSs). The proposed methodology is validated using experiments performed on real data of 12 safety-critical control systems of nuclear power plants.

It has thus become progressively more imperative to model these systems prior to their implementation in order to meet the high performance, safety and reliability requirements. Timed Petri Nets (TPNs) have been widely used to model such systems for non-functional analysis. The paper presents a novel methodology for the analysis of the performance metrics using PN modeling. The paper uses the isomorphism property of the TPNs and the Markov chains for the performance analysis of the safety critical systems. The presented methodology has been validated on a Shutdown System of a Nuclear Power Plant.

Stochastic models are extensively used in quantifying the reliability of safety critical systems.... more Stochastic models are extensively used in quantifying the reliability of safety critical systems. These models use the state-space model for reliability quantification. Markov chain is comprehensively used in describing a sequence of possible events of any system in which the probability of each event depends only on the state attained in the previous event. Markov chains are convenient to model the software system of the SCS with the help of Petri Nets, a directed bipartite graph widely used for the verification and validation of real-time systems. However, the stochastic model suffers from the state-space explosion problem. In this paper, we proposed a technique for reliability analysis of safety critical systems, excavating into the coherent optimization of Markov chain. The approach has been validated on 17 safety critical systems of nuclear power plants.

Several proposals have been proposed for ensuring software reliability in different phases of software development life cycle. The present article is a novel attempt in providing an exhaustive survey of software reliability models for their applicability on safety critical systems of nuclear power plants. Our systematic review shows that none of the proposals for ensuring software reliability are applicable on such systems. The issues and challenges are discussed, and a software reliability model for safety critical system of nuclear power plants is proposed.
Designing antennas for satellite application is a challenging task where the weight of the antenn... more Designing antennas for satellite application is a challenging task where the weight of the antenna as well as bandwidth plays an important factor. Additionally suitable material should be chosen to withstand the adverse space environment. Recent trend in the satellite application shows that communication is preferred in the higher band mostly in the Ku-band where users can use very small aperture terminals to receive the satellite signal. There is a requirement to design a lightweight, high power, microstrip antenna array for geostationary satellite to cover the India landmass. The building block for this array is a 2x2 array and this has been designed at Ku-band. Any antenna in the satellite experiences large temperature variation as well as radiation related problem results in shift in the frequency. So sufficient bandwidth margin is required to overcome these problems.

For investigation of the heavy pollution a well designed air quality monitoring network of 18 stations has been installed. The measurement program includes the determination of suspended particulate matter, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, aldehyde, ammonia and some meteorological elements. The results obtained in May of 1991 are presented. To predict the impact of the emitted pollution a steady state Gaussian plume dispersion model has been used. The predicted ground level concentration of nitrogen oxides, found to be a significant parameter, was computed as 37 pg μg m -3 , 37 μg m -3 and 41 μg m -3 in the NE direction during 10-18 hrs, 18-02 hrs and 02-10 hrs, respectively. The distances at which the maximum concentrations are likely to occur were predicted to be 0.5 km, 6 km and 6 km, respectively from the sources.
