Abstract In this study, tarragon extract was used as a reducing agent to perform green nano-biosy... more Abstract In this study, tarragon extract was used as a reducing agent to perform green nano-biosynthesis of selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs). The synthesized SeNPs were characterized using measurements of UV–Vis spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy disperse analysis of X rays (EDAX), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and differential scanning analysis (DSC). Synthesis of nanoparticles was confirmed by observing a peak at 212 nm in UV-VIS, indicating the surface plasmon resonance of SeNPs. Tarragon extract enabled a stable dispersion of SeNPs, giving rise to formation of the nanoparticles in the shape of quasi-spheres without clustering with the sizes between 20 and 50 nm. The SeNPs were shown to be in the form of nanocrystals, having Se embedded in the nanostructure with high thermal stability (a high resistance to thermal process over 200 °C). The SeNPs synthesized with tarragon extract could remarkably increase the inhibition zones from approximately 13 to 18 mm against the pathogenic bacteria and from 10 to 14 mm, 17–36 mm, 8–12 mm, 15–24.5 mm and 9–14 mm, against A. alternata, A. niger, A. parasiticus, B. cinerea, F. oxysporum and P. chrysogenum, respectively.

Purpose-IT projects carry high risk of failure due to the existence of great obstacles during the... more Purpose-IT projects carry high risk of failure due to the existence of great obstacles during the planning, application and development phase. The projects' risks are multi-dimensional, and they must be assessed by multi-attribute decision-making methods. The purpose of this article is to provide analytic tools to evaluate the learning organization's IT project risks under incomplete and vague information. It was also aimed to place the risk in a proper category and predict the level of it in advance to develop strategies to counteract the high-risk factors. Design/methodology/approach-In this study, three mutual approaches were used to analyze the organizations IT applications. These are enterprise analysis for determination of information requirements of organization, payback method for IT project financial analysis and risk assessment using fuzzy sets and systems. The developed fuzzy model is an expert system which can predict the category of risk for IT projects in learning organizations. Findings-This study revealed that the greatest obstacles to IT project success were the lack of organizational learning, resistance to change, etc. User involvement limitation was found to be also one of the common reasons of IT project failure. The information sharing policy was determined to increase productivity of employees in offices and to decide the creators and the users of knowledge. Learning is a continuous process for organizational transformation. Individual and organizational learning were searched to minimize the level of risks factors and learning culture. IT project risks were categorized properly using fuzzy sets and systems to reduce or even eliminate high risks. Originality/value-The paper is original and gives the first such work for industry.

The paper introduces a systematic approach for the design of fuzzy control charts of tip shear carpets. Design/methodology/approach-There are certain steps for designing fuzzy control charts. All input, state and output variables of the carpet plant and partition of the universe of discourse were first determined. The interval spanned by each variable and the number of fuzzy subsets each assigned with a linguistic label were identified. Then, the adaptive capability of neural network was used to determine the membership functions for each fuzzy subset. The fuzzy relationship functions between the inputs and outputs were assigned to form the fuzzy rule base (controller) in order to normalize the variables and certain intervals. Fuzzification of input parameters and max-min composition of rules for inferring crisp outputs was the next step. The aggregation of fuzzified outputs and defuzzification of the outputs were the last step of this study, which helped to produce crisp outputs for latex weight. Findings-Fuzzy linguistic terms were employed for overall quality assessment and rating of the end product. The outcomes of neuro-fuzzy system were good supplements to other statistical process control tools. Research limitations/implications-Lack of qualified domain experts, knowledge acquisition of process parameters and time limitation for training of neuro-fuzzy model were primary limitations. Practical implications-The approach is more flexible and meaningful to identify the quality distribution of a product. The qualitative aspect of human reasoning for decision making was employed in this approach. Originality/value-The paper is original and the first such work for local industry.

The aim of this study is to demonstrate the potential of machine learning (ML) approaches to speed up the development of polymer filaments for FDM. Four types of ML methods; artificial neural network, support vector regression, polynomial chaos expansion (PCE), and response surface model were used to predict the rheological behaivior of polybutylene succinate. In general, all four approaches presented significantly high correlation values with respect to the training and testing data stages. Remarkably, the PCE algorithm repeatedly provided the highest correlation for each response variable in both the training and testing stages. Particulate matter with aero-dynamic diameters of less than 10 μm (PM 10 ) was measured over 24-h intervals at four core stations in and around Jeddah City, Saudi Arabia. The sampling zones were located to Abhor, Industrial area, Bani Malek and Stadium regions of the city. The atmospheric elements in the total suspended particulates (TSP), the PM 10 fractions came from different emission sources, such as soil, traffic, industry and suspended particles. The gases and particulate matters data were collected from Saudi Presidency of meteorology and environment center for the periods between; January 2009 an April 2002.
