The Colon Nuclei Identification and Counting Challenge 2022 (CoNIC Challenge 2022) supports the development and comparability of segmentation and classification methods for histopathological images. In this contribution, we describe our CoNIC Challenge 2022 method ciscNet to segment, classify and count cell nuclei, and report preliminary evaluation results. In accordance with these goals, a sustainability assessment builds the framework of the methodological approach of this paper. It is based on the "classical" three pillar model as developed by the Brundtland Report and the 2005 UN World Summit. The thesis argues that - similar to small scale sustainability assessments - the sustainability performance on a country scale will differ according to geographical, social, economic and other features of each country. The analysis of the three pillars is based on the following set of indicators: The economic pillar is assessed through generation efficiency, inland water transport and agricultural water supply; the ecological pillar through Greenhouse Gas emi...

In this context, one area of particular importance is the increasing use of information and telecommunications technology (ICT) as a tool to facilitate citizen-government interaction. This development holds substantial opportunities for government to have more people engage in the co-production of public services. Simultaneously, government can improve its relationship with citizens through intensified exchange, greater openness, and more transparency (Harrison et al., 2012). Furthermore, ICT-based co-production can help improve the quality and effectiveness of public services (Chun et al., 2010; Fang, 2002). Consequently, a research question of paramount importance is what motivates individuals to engage in co-production with government. While this question has received a fair amount of scholarly attention in the past (e.g. Jakobsen, 20...

The most advanced competitive techniques are high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy, Cyberknife, volume-modulated-arc therapy (VMAT) and Tomotherapy. We evaluated the optimal technique by a planning study for a single ablative dose with different lesion sizes. Methods We compared dose distributions of HDR-brachytherapy with stereotactic ablative radiotherapy using the Cyberknife, VMAT or Tomotherapy. Tumor-control-probabilities (TCP), normal-tissue-complication-probabilities (NTCP) were determined in a theoretical framework applying a single dose of 20 Gy (demanding 95% coverage) for intrahepatic lesions of 1–5 cm in size. We evaluated therapeutic ratios by TCP (mean dose in the lesion) relative to high-dose (conformality) or low-dose liver exposition in dependency on the lesion size for each technique. In addition, we considered treatment times and acc...

Due to their importance, the number and complexity of tools and methods used for time series analysis is constantly increasing. However, due to unclear APIs and a lack of documentation, researchers struggle to integrate them into their research projects and replicate results. Additionally, in time series analysis there exist many repetitive tasks, which are often re-implemented for each project, unnecessarily costing time. To solve these problems we present pyWATTS, an open-source Python-based package that is a non-sequential workflow automation tool for the analysis of time series data. pyWATTS includes modules with clearly defined interfaces to enable seamless integration of new or existing methods, subpipelining to easily reproduce repetitive tasks, load and save functionality to simply replicate results, and native support for key Python machine learning libraries su...

The design of permanent housing constitutes a significant part of the reconstruction process after a natural disaster; it should, however, consider the history and social factors in the context of any given community. A housing recovery that responds to the population needs according to the available resources and cultural heritage is a top priority. This essay analyzes the considerations of the local context and architectural heritage during the reconstruction process after the 2010 earthquake in Chile. Case studies illustrate rebuilding initiatives by relief organization, universities, designers and communities. They show the potential but also the difficulties to rebuild after a natural disaster with the support of governmental fundi...

Drawing on identity theory and on a sample of 966 citizens in Zurich, Switzerland, we analyze how public service motivation (PSM) is related to engagement in a digital co-production platform enabling citizens to support public service provision. As our dependent variable, effort intensity in platform use, is a behavioral outcome, we provide insights into the actual behavioral implications of PSM, going beyond selfreports. Using negative binomial regressions, we found a positive relationship between engagement and the PSM dimension "commitment to the public interest", and a negative one with the dimension "compassion". Additionally, social identification with the city moderates the relationship with engagement for certain PSM dimensions. In sum, our study contributes to a better understanding of what motivations drive citizens to collaborate with public organizations, which is an ongoing trend in many countries around the world.

Given the enormous scholarly attention on PSM, it is surprising that considerable conceptual ambiguities and overlaps with related concepts such as prosocial motivation, and altruism still remain. This study addresses this issue by systematically carving out the differences and similarities between these concepts. Taking this approach, this study clarifies the conceptual space of both PSM and the other concepts. Using data from semi-structured interviews with police officers, it is illustrated that PSM and prosocial motivation are different types of motivation leading to different types of prosocial behaviour.

However, empirical evidence demonstrating the usefulness of addressing PSM in the recruitment process is limited. Moreover, we know little about the relative importance of PSM for public employers' attractiveness. We address this gap using an experimental research design to investigate whether public service motivated individuals differ from extrinsically motivated individuals in terms of their attraction to organizations that emphasize either "traditional" public or private values in their employer branding. Our findings indicate that public service motivated individuals are attracted neither to public nor to private

A key question in this regard is what motivates citizens to contribute their data. Drawing on motivation research in social psychology, the paper examines the question of whether self-concern or otherorientation is a stronger driver of citizen reporting engagement. To test their hypotheses, the authors rely on a sample of users from the mobile application ''Zurich as good as new'' in Switzerland, which enables citizens to report damages in and other issues with the city's infrastructure. Data was collected from two different sources: motivation was assessed in an online user survey (n = 650), whereas citizen reporting engagement was measured by the number of reports per user from real platform-use data. The analysis was carried out using negative binomial regression. The findings suggest that both self-concern and other-orientation are significant drivers of citizen reporting engagement, although the effect of self-concern appears to be stronger in comparison. As such, this study contributes to a better understanding of what motivates citizens to participate in citizen reporting platforms, which are a cornerstone application in many smart cities.

The described research is intended to mediate between the imagination of the designer and the current modes of construction; this project is part of a larger proposition to use wood as a sustainably sourced material that can be formed, curved and machined to create new digitally produced and tested formations. TimberShell creates prototypes for full-scale timber monocoque structures. Material computation affords us the ability to use the natural bending properties of wood to both bend components into shape and to create a robust load carrying structure once individual wood components are locked in by lamination. The geometry of the shell panel eliminates twisting. The research shows how doubly-curved timber shells that can be applied in either tension or compression. The panels can be used to create and cover spanning structures such as pools, gyms and auditoriums.
