Primary data were collected using structured interview guide, administered on 100 arable crop farmers using multistage sampling technique. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency and percentage) and inferential (partial correlation) statistical tools. The result showed that the mean age was 47.6years while 97% were married. However 97.00% of the arable crop farmers reported to have had malaria attack occasionally within the last10 years and 83.00% in the last five years while 64% reported malaria occurrence within the last one year.Majority (83.00%) of the respondent stated that erratic rainfall as compared to other causes had more effect on their productivity while just a few (7.00%) of the respondent claimed that low heat was the cause of their low productivity. The hypothesis tested revealed that ...

Therefore, the study examined the adaptation practices being employed by farmers to mitigate the perceived effects of climate change on selected arable crops in Rural Southwestern Nigeria. The specific objectives were to: identify sources of agricultural information; determine awareness of climate change by arable crop farmers; determine the perceived effects of climate parameters on selected arable crops; and identify adaptation measures employed to mitigate the perceived effects of climate change on arable crops in the study area. The only hypothesis was that there was no significant relationship between adaptation measures employed by farmers and perceived effects of climate change on selected arable crops. Multistage sampling technique was used in selecting 350 arable crop farmers.

Using a multi-stage sampling procedure, two zones, seven blocks, 19 cells and 72 rice growers were selected. Also, a Quasi-experimental pre and post test and control design was applied. Data were collected through interview schedule based on structured questions on the knowledge gained, adequacy of training method and selected socioeconomic characteristics which were analysed using frequency counts, percentage and t-test. The result showed that farmers' rate of adequacy of video and extension agent usage for training in terms of listenership effect had 94.9% and 61.1%; clarity of training message had 94.4% and 52.8%; retrieval of training information had 94.9% and 11.1% respectively. A significant difference exist in the knowledge gained after training between video and agent taught groups (t= 1.95, P&l...

This study sets out to assess the impact of the programme on the development of the crop and the profitability of the enterprise among the farmers. The study was carried out in Oyo State using stratified ran dom sampling technique to select 120 respondents and structured interview schedule to collect data. The data were analysed with frequency counts, percentages and t- tests. The study reveals that rice production is dominated by males with only 5% of the respondents being females. Majority of the respondents had access to some of the inputs (rice seed, agrochemicals, sickles, fertilizers, herbicides and insecticides) distributed by the programme with the exception of milling machine, destoners and air driers the absence of which may have i...

Multi-stage sampling technique was used to select 128 women farmers as sample size for the study. Data collected through interview schedule were analysed using frequency counts, percentages and mean while Pearson Product Moment Correlation and Chi-square were used to test the relationships that exist between selected socioeconomic characteristics and contributions of women farmers to maize production. Results revealed the mean age of respondents was 45years, 83.5% of respondents were married and 41.4% of the respondents had no formal education. High percentage of the respondents (82.5%) engaged in farming for both commercial and subsistence purposes, and activities such as, planting, fertilizer application, harvesting, processing, storage and marketing were performed by women farmers whereas ridging, land clearing and weeding were considered laborious and were us...
