The Big 4 audit firms consisting Akintola Williams, Ernst and Young, KPMG, and Price Water House Coopers where selected for the study. Out of the 11 global brands in Nigeria, only 9 had complete and consistent data and so were used. The study employed Multinomial Probit Regression (PMR) analysis in x-raying the data. Panel data referring to listed companies for the period of 2008-2017 was employed. The independent variable used for this study include: firm size; leverage; firm profitability; firm age, and; audit fee. The result showed a significant positive relationship between firm size and choice of external auditor’s selection. The study also reveals audit fee could discourage listed global brand companies from engaging the Big 4 audit firms in Nigeria. The study therefore recommends that the global brand companies should ensure a large asset base which w...

The diminishing culture of the extended family system and the need for both parents to be in employment coupled with the need to provide access and ensure equity in educational provision have necessitated the need for early childhood education in public school in Nigeria. The paper argued that adequate fund is a prerequisite for good teacher preparation, provision of appropriate and good quality facilities, stimulating learning materials, regular supervision and monitoring of early childhood education programmes and school effectiveness. In order to achieve these scenario, the following recommendations were proposed for policy options: 15% of the constituency allowance of all national lawmakers and 10% of that of state of assembly lawmakers should be committed to providing academic and non...

The study used data from World Development Indicators (WDI) as published by the World Bank and the World Economic Outlook database as provided by the International Monetary Finance (IMF). The study provides an understanding of how the importance of external debt could be short-lived due to its misapplication. The result reveals evidence to support a long-run equilibrium relationship between external debt and economic growth in Africa. The result demonstrates that beyond a specific capacity, the short-run converges to equilibrium in the long-run and external debt would start to have a deteriorating impact on economic growth in Africa. The findings of this study reinforce the need for policymakers to ensure proper application of external debt on economic activities...

The Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) was used as an instrument for measuring the performance efficiency of selected broad-based federal universities. Having identified gaps in earlier studies, this study used data from the National Universities Commission (NUC), the main regulatory body of universities in Nigeria. Results reveal that only four (4) (23.5%) of the 17 federal universities studied can be adjudged as performing efficiently in term of input and output phenomenon. These universities include universities of Maiduguri and Abuja as well as Bayero university, Kano and Nnamdi Azikiwe university Awka. These universities are therefore proposed as benchmarks for other universities in terms of performance efficiency. At the same time, the DEA has again proved to be a useful instrument in the measurement of performance efficiency of institutions.
