The complexity of the site is represented by the diversity of its cultural, social, historical and religious meanings. Those meanings give the three types of values: archaeological, religious and touristic. These three relevancies present the ancient city of Tauric Chersonese as an important pattern of archaeological area that required a special attention, considering the three values in their specific character and, in the same time, in their concert. It is very important to create a pattern for valorisation and appreciation for this important place. As professionals, we must insist on the preservation and moreover, on the development of all the above-mentioned values. If we underline only one of the values, if we conserve only one of them, the monument will not be complete anymore and will therefore lose its authenticity. In this article the authors attempt to...

The students that attend this course become a graduate with specific, extensive, and updated skills in the field of knowledge, protection, conservation, reuse, and enhancement of architectural and environmental heritage. The complexity of the intervention is faced through the contribution of the various disciplines that contribute to the training of the architect, at the same time they studied modern instruments and tools for collecting and managing data, from on-field survey to sharing projects and ideas. The goal is to learn to manage, in its entirety, the project and the range of possible interventions with deep conservative sensitivity, with skills ranging from maintenance to restoration and redevelopment, both in...

If the documentation is the first step towards the preservation of the historical-architectonic-archaeological heritage, the figure of ‘surveyor’ also acquires primary importance. A 'good survey' requires knowledge of the instruments and techniques, familiarity with software for managing and processing data and clarity of purposes. The training is the base. The reflection about the role of the 'surveyor' inside the Cultural Heritage safeguard inspired the summer school course that has been carried out in Nemi (Rome). The aim of the course, divided in theoretical and practical lessons, was to provide the base-knowledge required to deal with the of actual measure and representation topics through a critical, interpretative co...

In the 1930s, as part of Mussolini's ruralization policy, the vast swampy area was converted into a neatly designed countryside hinged on a hierarchy of villages and medium-sized towns such as Littoria (1932), Sabaudia (1934), Pontinia (1935), Aprilia (1936) and Pomezia (1938). How did architecture contribute in shaping a new "place identity"? This chapter questions the role of schools as fundamental collective buildings, helping the settlers put down roots. School buildings offered architects scope to experiment with new spatial layouts and architectural expressions aimed at the widest possible understanding.

The question is: what happens when you, instead of a new building, consider an ancient or existing one? To answer this question, we have evaluated the possibility of using the BIM process effectively for the conservation and proclamation of Cultural Heritage. The target is to test the BIM programs, satisfying the requirements of new buildings, and see if they can also be successfully used in complex situations, like the ones linked to the Cultural Heritage field, where you have to consider the unicity of the architectural elements, the constructive systems and materials (those are not standardized as the new ones), the degradation of the structures and the environmental conditions. In particular, the research examines the case study of the archaeological area of the Sanctuary of Diana in Nemi (Rome), which is an important example in the National Heritage. The final product consists of a parametric model, where you can find, embedded in a database, all the information about the elements and the management of conservation projects. Highlighting positive aspects and existing limits we want to contribute to further studies on the subject, leading to a mandatory implementation and use of this software, even in relation to future European legislative framework.
