The aim of this study is to examine the main factors responsible for Early School Leaving, the co... more The aim of this study is to examine the main factors responsible for Early School Leaving, the consequences of not finishing school and their relation to Social Exclusion, the motives and prospects that push school leavers to return as adults to education and the level of satisfaction from re-joining educational institutions that give them a second chance. The relevant phenomena that are investigated in this work are Early School Leaving (ESL), Social Exclusion (SE), Motivation and Expectations of Retraining, Satisfaction from adult education as well as the relationship between ESL SE and Motivation and Expectations. The current paper aimed at investigating factors affecting the perceptions and attitudes of facul... more The current paper aimed at investigating factors affecting the perceptions and attitudes of faculty members towards inclusive education for students with disabilities in a Greek University. A questionnaire, based on the “Expanding Cultural Awareness of Exceptional Learners-ExCEL” was distributed online to 311 faculty members, during the first semester of 2020. The questionnaire explored participants’ sociodemographic and academic background, prior training and personal experience with disability, perceived knowledge, beliefs and attitudes towards inclusive education practices. A total of 80 questionnaires were completed (males 56.3%; aged 41–50 years 43.7%; working experience > 16 years 52.4%; prior training on disability 77.5%). The following study explores the phenomenon of early school leaving and related prevention strate... more The following study explores the phenomenon of early school leaving and related prevention strategies, focusing on the region of Crete, an island in Greece which has high early school leaving rates. This is a qualitative research focused on the opinions and attitudes of the elementary and secondary school units’ directors. Thirteen semi-structured interviews were conducted, showing the interviewees’ opinions about the reasons students leave school in this specific district, the applied prevention measures, and their evaluation. It is noted that the frequency of early school leaving in the local high schools and lyceums is high, while in the elementary schools it is low, which is mainly caused by the students’ decision to enter the job market, help their family agricultural business, and create a family of their own or get married -especially the female students. Στόχος της παρούσας έρευνας είναι να μελετηθούν οι κύριοι παράγοντες που οδηγούν στη Μαθητική Δια... more Στόχος της παρούσας έρευνας είναι να μελετηθούν οι κύριοι παράγοντες που οδηγούν στη Μαθητική Διαρροή, οι συνέπειες αυτής και η σχέση τους με τον Κοινωνικού Αποκλεισμό, τα κίνητρα και οι προσδοκίες που ωθούν τους διαρρέοντες μαθητές στην εκπαίδευση και ο βαθμός ικανοποίησης από την εκ νέου συμμετοχή σε εκπαιδευτικά ιδρύματα που τους παρέχουν μία δεύτερη ευκαιρία. Τα φαινόμενα που ερευνώνται στην παρούσα εργασία είναι η Μαθητική Διαρροή (ΜΔ), ο Κοινωνικός Αποκλεισμός (ΚΑ), τα Κίνητρα και οι Προσδοκίες Επανεκπαίδευσης, ο Βαθμός Ικανοποίησης από την εκπαίδευση ενηλίκων καθώς και η σχέση μεταξύ των φαινομένων ΜΔ, ΚΑ και Κινήτρων Επανεκπαίδευσης. This survey is a qualitative analysis of written interviews of teachers (n= 367) working in Secon... more This survey is a qualitative analysis of written interviews of teachers (n= 367) working in Second Chance Schools, an educational institution consisting of structures operating inside and outside detention facilities in Greece. In particular, it examines teachers' proposals for reforms that will increase the socio-economic integration prospects of second-chance learners, who make up a population of former early school leaver and prisoners. This research provides a focused assessment of the inclusive teaching and learning offered by school second education. The results highlight the need for reforms in the structure and operation of second-chance structures that operate inside and outside detention centers, enhancing the training-labor market connection and creating a competitive working profile, and also the need of establishing equivalent to second-chance structures at all levels of education from primary to upper secondary to ensure a seamless educational path to entry into hi...
