Especially, flash floods have the potential to generate fatal damages due to their rapid evolution and the limited warning and response time. An effective Early Warning Systems (EWS) could support detection and recognition of flash floods. Information about a flash flood can be mainly provided from observations of hydrology and from satellite images taken before the flash flood happens. In particular, once Adam stochastic is deployed, the implementation of the MLP model is significantly improving. The promising forecast results encourage us to consider applying these models with future data to help...

Business productivity is becoming a more and more significant issue in the economy and it is essential to find out what motivates and limits productivity. The inequality in economic development of different provinces in each country is getting higher priority of government in both developed and developing countries. In this comparative study, we chose Hertfordshire in UK and Hung Yen in Vietnam, two provinces nearby the capitals of those countries respectively. Recently, the Mamdani Complex Fuzzy Inference System (M-CFIS) has been introduced as an effective tool for handling events that are not restricted to only values of a given time point but also include all values within certain time intervals (i.e., the phase term). In such decision-making problems, the complex fuzzy theory allows us to observe both the amplitude and phase values of an event, thus resulting in better performance. However, one of the limitations of the existing M-CFIS is the rule base that may be redundant to a specific dataset. In order to handle the problem, we propose a new Mamdani Complex Fuzzy Inference System with Rule Reduction Using Complex Fuzzy Measures in Granular Computing called M-CFIS-R. Several fuzzy similarity measures such as Complex Fuzzy Cosine Similarity Measure (CFCSM), Complex Fuzzy Dice Similarity Measure (CFDSM), a...

This study aimed to compare patient-controlled paravertebral analgesia (PCPA) and intravenous patient-controlled analgesia (IVPCA) in terms of analgesic efficiency, respiratory function, and adverse effects after video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) lobectomy. Patients and methods: The prospective randomized trial study was carried out on 60 patients who underwent VATS lobectomy (randomly allocated 30 patients in each group). In the PCPA group, an initial dose of 0.3 mL/kg of 0.125% bupivacaine with fentanyl 2 µg/mL was administered, followed by a 3 mL/h continuous infusion with patient-controlled analgesia (2 mL bolus, 10-minute lockout interval, 25 mL/4 h limit). In the IVPCA group with morphine 1 mg/mL solution, an infusion device was programmed to deliver a 1.0 mL demand bolus with no basal infusion rate, with a 10-minute lockout interval and a maximum of 20 mL/4 h period. Postoperative pain was assessed by visual analog scale at rest and on coughing. Arterial blood gas and spirometry were monitored and recorded for the first 3 postoperative days. Side effects to include were also recorded. Results: The PCPA group had statistically significant lower pain scores (P<0.0001) at rest at all times. Lower pain scores on coughing were statistically significant in PCPA group in the first 4 hours. Postoperative spirometry showed that both the groups had comparable recovery trajectories for their pulmonary function. Arterial blood gas analysis showed pH and PaCO 2 were in a normal range in both the groups. The incidence of headache was higher in the IVPCA group (13.3% vs 0%; P=0.038). Conclusion: PCPA effectively managed pain after VATS lobectomy, with lower pain scores, similar respiratory function, and fewer side effects than standard IVPCA treatment.

Breast tumorigenesis encompasses both extrinsic and intrinsic factors. Among intrinsic aspects, the appearance of DNA variation can cause genetic instability, which may lead to carcinogenesis. Genome-wide association studies have found several potential breast cancer-associated single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in many different populations. Among these, seven (rs2046210, rs1219648, rs3817198, rs3803662, rs889312, rs10941679 and rs13281615) have been shown to be significantly associated with breast cancer risk in various populations including those very similar to the Vietnamese. Here, therefore, we have investigated the relationship between these SNPs and breast cancer risk in a Vietnamese population case-control cohort. Real-time PCR high-resolution melt analysis was performed to genotype 300 breast cancer cases and 325 healthy controls, and the association between the seven SNPs and breast cancer risk was determined...

Nevertheless, there has been a lack of sufficient empirical evidence to support that claim. This article uses Vietnam as a case study to examine the linkage between a rising number of non-profit institutions and the improvement of good governance practice by analysing impacts of non-profit institutions' development on government's transparency at the provincial level from 2011 to 2014. To do so, the article employs pooled ordinary least squares, fixed effects and random effects models with different sets of control variables. On the basis of the quantitative results, we conclude that the rise of non-profit institutions does have a positive impact on the quality of governance in Vietnam, at least in terms of fostering its transparency.

Urban), in cells elicited with salicylic acid (50-200 lM). Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Northern blot analysis indicated CaSQS, CabAS, and CaCYS genes expressed in both the wild-type and cultured cells (with and without elicitation). In elicited cells, expressions of CaSQS, CabAS, and CaCYS genes showed strong dependence on salicylic acid concentration and elicitation day. The highest expression of CabAS gene was found in the cells elicited with 100 lM salicylic acid on day 10 of inoculation. Salicylic acid treatment (50-200 lM) decreased expression level of CaCYS and CaSQS genes in elicited cells compared with the control.

Coarse grain (CG) Titanium with original grain size of 150 μm had been pressed by ECAP at 425oC by 4, 8 and 12 passes, respectively. This process then was followed by rolling at room temperature with 35%, 55%, and 75% rolling strains. After two steps, mechanical properties such as strength, hardness and microstructure of processed Titanium have been measured. The result indicated significant effect of cold rolling on tensile strength, hardness and microstructure of ECAP-Titanium.

Previous studies report conflicting results of the effects of DENV on Aedes aegypti survival. Here, we describe the effect of DENV on the short-term survival (up to 12 d) of 4,321 Ae. aegypti mosquitoes blood-fed on 150 NS1-positive dengue patients hospitalized in the Hospital for Tropical Diseases, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Mosquito survival was not different between cohorts that fed upon blood from which 0% of mosquitoes became DENV infected (N = 88 feeds), or 100% became infected (N = 116 feeds). Subgroup analysis also did not reveal serotype-dependent differences in survival, nor a relationship between survival and human plasma viremia levels. These results suggest that DENV infection adds minimal cost to Ae. aegypti, an important finding when parameterizing the vector competence of this mosquito. BACKGROUND Dengue viruses (DENV) infected an estimated 390 million people in 2010, 1 and dengue is widely considered the most common arboviral disease of humans. The transmission of DENV from mosquitoes to humans is, among other things, dependent upon the susceptibility of the mosquito to the infection, the time it takes for the virus to disseminate to the salivary glands for transmission, and mosquito survival.
