Animals were divided into four groups (six of each breed): Crossbred (Friesian × Sahiwal), Dhanni, Lohani, and Cholistani. The data obtained were analyzed using analysis of variance techniques under a completely randomized design. The average daily gain (ADG), feed efficiency (FE), and dressing percentage ranged from 639-892 g/d, 0.105-0.155 kg/kg, and 51.2-51.5%, respectively, in the different breeds. The ADG and FE did not differ between the Crossbred, Dhanni, and Lohani breeds, but these values were lower in Cholistani calves (P<0.05). The dressing percentage was similar in all breeds. The highest increase in body height was observed in Dhanni calves, but heart girth was obviously higher in Lohani calves. The feed cost per kg gain was higher for Cholistani calves but similar among Crossbred, Dhanni, and Lohani calves (P>0.05). In conclusion, Dhanni, Lohani, and Crossbred calves possess the promising potential for beef production under the rainfed (Barani) conditions of the Punjab.

With modern surgical procedures the overall outcome is excellent. Permanent colostomy which is required in some cases of this disease can result in some rare complications such as enteroliths formation, as illustrated in the case we are presenting here related to a 28-year-old male who reported at urology emergency with features of urinary and acute large bowel obstruction. On investigation he was found to have two enteroliths in his distal loop of sigmoid colostomy. The more distal of the two enteroliths caused urinary retention and hence acute renal failure, and the proximal one caused large bowel obstruction by compressing the proximal loop of colostomy. This case demonstrates that the blind distal sigmoid colostomy loop can grow enteroliths secondary to stasis of its own...

The covariate structures considered hereare; normal, gamma, exponential, weibull, t, laplace and uniform covariates for small moderate and large sample sizes. The consistency of OLS estimation is observed for all the covariate structures for different sample sizes. NW estimation is found best for skewed and fat tailed covariates while for symmetric covariates the performance of NW estimation is not good.

ABSTRACT Wireless sensor network (WSN) consisting of nodes equipped with cameras or advanced low-... more ABSTRACT Wireless sensor network (WSN) consisting of nodes equipped with cameras or advanced low-cost image sensors is known as a Visual Sensor Network (VSN). The main function of VSN is to capture images and send them to sink nodes for processing. Common applications of a VSN are surveillance, tracking, crowd management, scientific research, etc. Such applications require large amounts of data to be exchanged between camera nodes and sink. Image data is considerably larger than common sensor data such as temperature, humidity, and pressure. For data delivery in VSNs, the communication is constrained by many stringent QoS requirements like delay, jitter and data reliability. Moreover, due to the inherent constraints of WSN such as limited energy, low CPU power, and insufficient memory; the architect of VSN must choose appropriate topology, image compression algorithms, and communication protocols depending on application. In literature, different techniques have been proposed to resolve the bandwidth requirements for the VSN. The majority of these techniques are based on the compression of visual data. This paper focuses on one of these aspects, namely the communication protocol for VSN. In this paper, we present Priority Routing Framework for Image Transmission (PRoFIT), a new routing framework for VSN to deliver critical imagery information with system’s time constraint. We demonstrate that PRoFIT improves response time in various VSN applications as compared to priority-less routing techniques. We have implemented PRoFIT along with an image processing application using Contiki and simulated it on Cooja simulator to support our claim.

Clinical experience since the release of the current generation of guide catheters was reviewed to determine their safety and efficacy. Between October 2007 and November 2011, all neurointerventional procedures requiring access to the intracranial arterial circulation performed at our institution were reviewed. Clinical performance and complication rates of current generation guide catheters were compared with conventional guide catheters. 1188 neurointerventional procedures were performed, of which 659 were eligible for this study. When navigating the anterior circulation, intracranial purchase was achieved significantly more often with current generation 0.070 inch and 0.053 inch guide catheters compared with conventional guide catheters. Similarly, current generatio...

Smart antenna has a system for directed a beam towards desired angle/direction and suppress/cancel interference from undesired angle/direction. MUSIC (Multiple Signal Classification) has capability to estimate number of signals in an array and angle/direction of arrival of desired signal. ESPRIT (Estimation of Signal Parameters via Rotational Invariance Techniques) is used for the estimation of direction of arrival of multiple sets of identical doublets, provides parallel processing. This Paper provides comparative analysis and simulation of angle of arrival (AOA) estimation, and estimate error in AOA estimation. Relative results are useful for achieving optimal performance in smart antenna design.

Nearly all the changes in taste, flavour or appearance of raw milk are result of bacterial activities. The activities of these bacteria if pathogenic may cause certain health problems. In this study sixty milk samples collected each from three different consumers and producing areas of Abbottabad city, were analyzed for physico-chemical properties and microbial analysis. The mean scores of colour, taste and flavour for marketed raw milk and fresh milk were 7.03, 5.86, 5.71 and 7.06, 7.15, 6.75, respectively. 30% of the samples of marketed raw milk gave positive response to alcohol precipitation test and all samples of fresh milk gave negative response to alcohol precipitation test. The mean value of specific gravity for marketed raw milk and fresh milk was 1.023 and 1.033 respectively. The mean value of pH for marketed raw milk was 6.53 and 6.71 for fresh milk. Fat percentage results showed that all marketed raw milk samples analyzed were below the required standards for buffalo milk. Total bacterial count revealed mean of 7.29 x 10 10 /ml for marketed raw milk and 5.53 x 10 8 /ml for fresh milk. However all the samples contained total count above the standard i.e., 2 x 10 5 to 5 x 10 6 /ml and all the samples were of very poor quality and placed in grade D. The present study indicated that qualitative and quantitative changes during transportation of milk to consumers were due substandard production of fresh milk and probably due to adulteration.

In addition, there is a great interest of Cyber-Physical System interconnecting city's infrastructure together though wireless connections from bridges to water pipes to smart grid and intelligent transport systems. Not all of these devices will use the same wireless technology for communication and hence it will be very hard for them to exchange control and data messages. Moreover, different wireless technology standards are being used nowadays in many applications such as Bluetooth, WiFi, WiMAX etc. Each technology has a different stack of protocols, medium access control and encoding mechanisms dictating the way it works, operates and technical specifications. Each technology was proposed, developed and standardized to serve specific needs and applications. For example, Bluetooth standard was developed to interconnect small number of devices available within short distances from each other. WiFi was standardized to provide stations with wireless network connectivity through TCP/IP stack. Devices with same wireless technology can connect together to exchange control and data messages. With the increase number of wireless technologies available for users, one major difficulty is to interconnect different devices with different wireless technology together. For example, it is impossible for a notebook PC to connect to a Bluetooth device without having a Bluetooth dongle.

Accurate image registration in a real time environment has always been a challenge involving the detection of analogous features and then construction of mosaic within plausible accuracy range. Digital Signal Processor is an asset in this regard; its advanced versions equipped with multiple cores can handle many processes at the same time. In this paper we have implemented an efficient algorithm, proposed in our previous research ...

This earthquake resulted in an estimated 650 to 750 SCIs. 5 Management of SCI victims offered challenges such as saturation of available SCI rehabilitation services and aggravation of injuries by improper immobilization, lifting, and transport techniques. 1,6-8 It was reported that several makeshift SCI rehabilitation centers, which were established after the earthquake, may have benefited these victims. 9 However, structure, function, and outcome of these centers were never described. 1,5,9

A popular theory supports sparse feature representation, an image being represented with a basis dictionary having sparse weighting coefficient. Another method uses a nonlinear combination of image features for representation. In our work, we combine the two methods and propose a scheme that takes advantage of both sparse and nonlinear feature representation. To this end, we use independent component analysis (ICA) and covariant matrices, respectively. To compute saliency, we use a biologically plausible center surround difference (CSD) mechanism. Our sparse features are adaptive in nature; the ICA basis function are learnt at every image representation, rather than being fixed. We show that Adaptive Sparse Features when used with a CSD mechanism yield better results compared to fixed sparse representations. We also show that covariant matrices consisting of nonlinear integrati...

AFM analysis of the a-C : H film surface before gold deposition shows nanoscale buckling, the corresponding increase in specific surface area corresponds to a strain compensation for the first 4-6% of bi-axial tensile loading. Without this interlayer, the deposited gold films show much smaller and uni-directional ripples as well as more cracks and delaminations. With a-C : H interlayer, the initial electrical resistivity of the metal film decreases markedly (280-fold decrease to 8 × 10 −6 cm). This is not due to conduction within the carbon interlayer; both a-C : H/PDMS and PDMS substrates are electrically insulating. Upon cyclic tensile loading, both films become more resistive, but return to their initial state after 20 tensile cycles up to 60% strain. Profiling experiments using secondary ion mass spectroscopy and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy indicate that the a-C : H layer intermixes with the PDMS, resulting in a graded layer of decreasing stiffness. We believe that both this graded layer and the surface buckling contribute to the observed improvement in the electrical performance of these stretchable conductors.
