Secondary data were sourced for this study. The population for the study comprises all brewery companies quoted on the Nigerian Stock Exchange. Purposive sampling technique was used in selecting the three leading brewery companies in Nigeria, namely the Nigerian Breweries Plc; Guinness Nigeria Plc; and International Breweries Plc that represent 75% of the breweries quoted in the Nigerian Stock Exchange factsbook. Secondary data on ICT/ software costs, inventories, sales turnover/revenue, and assets were sourced from years 2006 to 2015 Annual Reports and Statements of Accounts of the three selected breweries and the Nigeria Stock Exchange facts book. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics (tables, mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (Ordinary Least Square (OLS) method). The results also showed that ICT usage had no significant positive relationship on inventory management (t = 0.021, P > 0.01). The study concluded that ICT had no significant positive effect on inventory management in the Nigerian Brewery industry. It is recommended that brewery firms in Nigeria should deploy the right software for inventory management. The limitation of this research is what were used to measure the inventory management and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) as contrary results could be obtained if these variables are measured using other yardsticks. The improvement of the respondent required to see the other problem and another kind of business.

It was also found that the major marketing problems faced by cocoa marketers included those of pricing, finance, transportation, activities of fraudsters and high cost of marketing. The study also revealed that the structure of the industry did not seem to have contributed to the observed barriers to entry features. The problems preventing new entrants into the industry within the past few years included those of transportation, unstable price (unforeseen fall in Cocoa prices), access to loan or problems created by banks by charging what was considered to be too high bank interest rates on loan. These are without prejudi...

Data were obtained from a study carried out in Idanre, a town in Ondo state of Nigeria between April 2000 and April 2001. Stratified random sampling technique was used in selecting 150 respondents. The study reveals that marketers who got their beans by planting some and complementing some by other purchases have the highest overall mean gross profit (N2, 079,314) but the difference in the mean gross profit of marketers using any of the sourcing methods is not significant at the ten percent level. The study also reveals that female cocoa marketers were more efficient than their male counterparts in terms of efficient utilization of resources whether mindful or regardless of sourcing methods used. It was concluded that the mostly patronized source of cocoa beans was from farmers, which were achieved by granting loans or supplying some inputs to farmers during the planting season, and collecting dried...

Unconscious or informal application and failure to acknowledge the use of operations research (OR... more Unconscious or informal application and failure to acknowledge the use of operations research (OR) approach by corporate managers has been going on globally for a very long time. This largely accounts for the inability of scholars to make accurate assessment of the level of application of operations research in the non-academic environment. It is therefore evident that asking an operations manager whether OR models or methodology is applied by his company may likely not produce a response that truly represents reality as some may be unknowingly making such applications. This study therefore examined the level of awareness of OR among corporations in the Nigerian manufacturing sector. It also assessed the extent of familiarity with OR models among managers in the manufacturing sector and their appreciation of OR techniques as a viable business decision-making tool. Consequently, steps that constitute the decision-making procedure of firms in the manufacturing industry of Nigerian eco...

The concept of globalization, its meaning, actors, processes and implication for the developing w... more The concept of globalization, its meaning, actors, processes and implication for the developing world has received considerable attention of scholars and bodies in contemporary times. The theme of the 1998 9 th General Assembly of CODESRIA was "Globalization and Social Sciences in Africa". Earlier on in 1996, CODESRIA did a multinational research around the theme "Globalization and Social Policy in Africa" which, among other things, centered on issues of development and social policy making in postcolonial Africa, particularly socioeconomic policies of restructuring and adjustment as well as the implications of globalization for development and economic reform. Similarly, the National Centre for Economic Management and Administration, Ibadan, Nigeria did a "National Workshop on Economic Reform and Globalization" (30 th September-18 th October 2002 at Abuja). From the foregoing discussions, it is clear that 'globalization' is so important in current intellectual discourse in the contemporary world. This inevitably leads to us to the definition of the concept. What precisely does the concept 'globalization' mean? There are plenty of scholarly works on globalization.

This strategic move by business organizations is being hindered by some challenges which has invariably reduced the benefits accruable from ICT deployment for business operations especially in the inventory management. Primary data formed the methodology of the study. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze data obtained through the administration of structured questionnaire. It was established during the field survey that challenges facing the use of ICT had impacted negatively on the performance of inventory management in the Nigerian brewery industry during the period under study. It was also revealed that the cost of software was a major challenge in the industry and conclude that the identified challenges had significant effect on customers' sa...

Primary data formed the methodology of the study. The analysis of data collected was done using descriptive (tables and percentages) and inferential statistics. The results showed that majority of the respondents were using ICT tools and its associated components in their inventory management. It was revealed that the extent of ICT usage had significant effect on its adoption for inventory management by firms in the industry. Based on these findings, the study concluded that ICT is fully deployed and adopted to a very great extent for inventory management in the Nigerian brewery industry and that its adoption and usage in the brewery industry was influenced by its extent of us...

Primary and secondary data were used for the study. Random sampling technique was used in selecting 30% of marketers. A while purposive sampling was used to select two top management staff in the marketing departments at the headquarters of each bank and fifty customers each from the 25 banks. Primary data were obtained from two questionnaires administered to marketers and customers of the banks. Interviews were also conducted with top management staff in the marketing departments of the banks. Secondary data on variables such as profit before and after tax, deposits, assets, capital base, loans, interest rates, ownership structure, and number of branches of Foreign Banks in Nigeria, among others were collected from the banks. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. The results showed that globalization had significant and positive effects on the performance of banks. Higher profitability was a result of wider market coverage of banks in the country, both locally and internationally. The study concluded that globalization had no significant effect on market structure but greatly improved the performance of banks in Nigeria.

It also identified and analysed the problems involved in producing good quality service and made practical suggestions to deal with the problems. The study which was carried out between August and November 2005 used stratified random and stratified purposive sampling techniques in selecting a total of 27 banks and 135 customers respectively. The study involved questionnaire administration as well as focus group discussion. Data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics. The study discovered among others that reliability, responsiveness, unextensive waiting time, competence, courtesy, credibility and communication are major determinants of service quality. The study also showed that epileptic power supply, unstable economic policies, unconducive working environment, and network servers= failures constituted the major problems facing good quality services in the bank industry. The study among others recommended improvement on performances of servers, provision of standby generators and consistent on-the-job training for workers to ameliorate the problems. It concluded that appropriate economic and social policies are required to

However, in Nigeria, there are few empirical studies conducted to investigate the relationship between strategic management and firm performance. Thus, the main objective of this study was to provide further evidence on the effects of strategic management (SM) on the performance of manufacturing industries in Nigeria. Five large-scale quoted manufacturing firms located in Lagos metropolis were selected. The study relied on primary data which were obtained using structured questionnaire administered to 50 purposively selected respondents of the selected firms. The data collected were analysed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and correlation analysis as well as descriptive analysis in pursuance of the stated specific objectives of the study. The result showed that strategic management had significant effects on the profitability and operational performance of the selected manufacturing firms. Also, strategic management had positive relationship with the level of competition of the firms. This study concluded that the practice of strategic management is sine qua non in boosting firm performance in the manufacturing industries in Nigeria.
