It has multiple practical application since handwriting is a unique attribute for each person that provides as much differentiation as fingerprints. Accurate analysis of handwritten documents is useful in diverse areas including human resource management, criminal justice, forensics, security, archaeology, and countless other spheres of life. Writer identification is a big challenge mostly due to a limited human capability for observing and recognizing different styles of writing. Arabic is a language used by millions of people. Recognition of handwritten Arabic characters would, therefore, be of tremendous help in various sectors like mail sorting, verification of checks, etc. even in countries where Arabic is used only occasionally. For this purpose, we collected around 160 samples of Arabic handwriting from 83 different writers, where every writer wrote the same paragraph in both normal and fast writing. Carl Jung’s and Isabel Briggs Myers’ personality type theory with 16 different personality type was used for classifying the writers. The writers were asked to complete the personality test that contains 64 questions related to Jung-Myers’ typology. Specific features of Arabic language handwriting were used to match each written document with a personality type of the writer based on a set of classification techniques. We used four different machine learning classification algorithms with 4-fold cross validation technique. We conducted two experiments and achieved a maximum accuracy of 68.67%.

Novel grading approaches were proposed, but the rarity of adverse pathology hampers their discriminatory value. We investigate simple linear micrometer measurements and a proposed immunostain in CRCCs. 32 patients' CRCCs were studied: 12 adverse cases (stage pT3, recurrence, or metastasis), 15 controls (stage ≤pT2, no recurrence or metastasis after >3 years), and 8 metastases (3 were paired with primary adverse cases). The ratio of greatest dimensions of largest and smallest nuclei, in each of 5 "worst" high-power fields, excluding those with degenerative features, was designated variation in nuclear size (VNS). Percent multinucleate cells (PMC) were also counted. Mouse anti PD-L2 monoclonal antibody immunostaining was performed. Mean VNS measured in adverse primary and control primary tumors were 3.7 ± 0.5 and 2.4 ± 0.4 respectively (P...

Men undergoing this biopsy experience high psychological stress. Different studies recommend techniques as sedation, lidocaine gel intrarectally, periprostatic nerve block alone, or nitrous oxide inhalation as effective methods of analgesia during procedural-related pain or discomfort. We evaluated three techniques for pain relief during TRUSPB and evaluated if there was any increase in the incidence of complications when employing either technique. Assiut University Hospital, Assiut, Egypt. Three hundred patients of age 43-92-year-old underwent TRUSPBs. Patients were allocated randomly into three equal groups to receive intravenous (IV) diazepam 5 mg slowly (Group I), bilateral periprostatic nerve block by 10 ml of 1% lidocaine solution injected under ultrasound guidance (Group II), or combined IV diazepam and the periprostatic nerve block (Group III). ...

PDAC is also the prototype of the "pancreatobiliary-type" adenocarcinomas, along the biliary tract, ampullary and gallbladder cancers with the similar morphology and behavior. Recent molecular profiling studies have identified distinct subsets of PDAC, potentially with different behaviors and targetability. Moreover, while PDAC is by far the most common cancer of the pancreas, there are various other types that occur in this organ and are erroneously classified together with PDAC. Many of these have different molecular and biologic characteristics that warrant their management separately although they are also technically "pancreatic cancers". While some are closely related to PDAC and have as aggressi...

A general and regioselective method for the chlorination of activated arenes has been developed. ... more A general and regioselective method for the chlorination of activated arenes has been developed. The transformation uses iron(III) triflimide as a powerful Lewis acid for the activation of N-chlorosuccinimide and the subsequent chlorination of a wide range of anisole, aniline, acetanilide, and phenol derivatives. The reaction was utilized for the late-stage mono- and dichlorination of a range of target compounds such as the natural product nitrofungin, the antibacterial agent chloroxylenol, and the herbicide chloroxynil. The facile nature of this transformation was demonstrated with the development of one-pot, tandem, iron-catalyzed dihalogenation processes allowing highly regioselective formation of different carbon-halogen bonds. The synthetic utility of the resulting dihalogenated aryl compounds as building blocks was established with the synthesis of natural products and pharmaceutically relevant targets.

A diverse range of products were obtained from an operationally simple one-pot, two-step procedure involving bromination of the aryl substrate with the powerful Lewis acid iron(III) triflimide, followed by a copper(I)-catalysed N-arylation reaction. This two-step dehydrogenative process for the regioselective coupling of aromatic C-H bonds with non-activated amines was applicable to anisole-, phenol-, aniline- and acetanilide-type aryl compounds. Importantly, the arene substrates were used as the limiting reagent and required no protecting-group manipulations during the transformation.

Our aim was to compare the efficacy and safety of sugammadex at doses of 1.5, 2, and 4 mg / kg, calculated according to ideal body weight basis, for the reversal of moderate rocuronium-induced neuromuscular blockade in laparoscopic bariatric surgery. 180 morbidly obese patients were randomly assigned into three groups according to sugammadex dose administrated (based on IBW after reaching T2 of TOF): Group I: patients were given 1.5 mg / kg. Group II: patients were given 2 mg / kg. Group III: patients were given 4 mg / kg. Both sugammadex and extubation times were recorded. RESULTS: Sugammadex time was significantly longer in groups I and II versus III (P = 0.000, 0.005 respectively). Difference between groups I and II was insignificant. The extubation time was insignificantly different in the three groups (P > 0.05). A dose of s...

Recent studies assigned a role for Runx2 in promoting breast cancer metastasis. However, the role of Runx2 during the early stage of breast carcinoma and its association with clinical outcomes remain unknown. Assessing the clinicopathological significance of Runx2 expression in a cohort of breast invasive ductal carcinomas (IDC). The correlation of nuclear Runx2 LI with clinicopathological parameters was assessed in 84 IDCs. To study the association of Runx2 with patient outcomes, in addition to treating it as a continuous variable, Runx2 was categorized by its median value (65) and by an additional two cut-off points determined by ROC curve analyses, at 45 for disease free survival (DFS) and 40 for overall survival (OS). Multivariate Cox regression models were also constructed. We used the best subset regression to identify models that predict DFS and OS with as few predictors as possible, and validation was performed. Based on the "Predicted R(2)", the three best models were identified. Using Cox-regression, the interaction between Runx2 and other clinicopathological terms was tested. Runx2 LI was significantly associated only with positive Her-2 status, and did not correlate significantly with other clinicopathological parameters. Although Runx2 LI, in the continuous form and when categorized by the median, did not correlate significantly with DFS and OS; after it was categorized using the optimal cut-off points determined using ROC curve analysis, the patients with Runx2 LI >45 % showed a significantly higher event rate and shorter DFS (P = 0.047), whereas patients with Runx2 LI >40 % showed a significantly shorter OS (P = 0.050). Moreover, Runx2 LI contributed significantly in the models built to predict DFS and OS. For DFS, no interaction terms contributed significantly to the models. However, among stage IV cases, the interaction term between centred Runx2 and ER significantly contributed to the prediction of OS. Runx2 was a significant predictor of OS in this model. Runx2 has a role in biological behaviour and affects the outcome of IDC; therefore, its inhibition may be a new therapeutic strategy. The predictability of Runx2 for OS in stage IV tumours differs with different ER states. The pattern of this difference was not determined because the sample size was not sufficient to allow pattern testing.

Our aim was to investigate FGF18 expression in the whole spectrum of serous and mucinous ovarian tumors, highlighting differences in expression within the adenoma-carcinoma sequence and differences between type I and type II tumors. We also aimed to test the prognostic significance of this expression and its relation to microvessel density (MVD). We evaluated the immunohistochemical expression of FGF18 and CD31 in 103 ovarian tumors and statistically analyzed their association with clinicopathological variables and patients' outcome. FGF18 score increased significantly within the adenoma-carcinoma sequence for serous and mucinous tumors. MVD increased significantly only among serous tumors. FGF18 and MVD correlated significantly (overall and among serous tumors only) and were significantly higher in type II than type I tumors. Cox regression models were built. Independent predictors could not be determined due to multicollinearity between the predictors. However, the combination of International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage, ovarian carcinoma type, and/or FGF18 score achieved the highest predictability of poor prognosis. FGF18 could play a role within the adenoma-carcinoma sequence in type I tumors and might modulate angiogenesis among serous tumors. Our findings further augment the differences between type I and type II tumors. The combination of FIGO stage, ovarian carcinoma type, and/or FGF18 score could predict poor prognosis among ovarian carcinoma patients. Our work identifies FGF18 in ovarian neoplasia as a promising field of research, although evaluation of the performance of the developed models is still needed.

The mechanical properties of solution-cast films of filled polymers are found to be very much enh... more The mechanical properties of solution-cast films of filled polymers are found to be very much enhanced when the polymer is strongly adsorbed on the filler in the casting solution. Acid-base interactions between polymer and filler promote such adsorption, subjectto the acidic or basic nature of the solvent. {-Potential measurements were used as a measure of acid-base interaction between filler and polymer in solvents of low dielectric constant. Thin films containing up to 60 vol % filler were cast from both acidic and basic solvents. Relative values of Young's modulus and tensile strength were compared for each system using the equations of Kerner and Nielsen as a basis for the cases of good and poor adhesion. In a system with acidic polymer (post-chlorinated PVC) and basic filler (CaC03 or BaTi03) cast from an acidic solvent (CH2C12), both adhesion and mechanical properties were improved over the same system cast from a basic solvent (THF); adsorption measurements showed no polymer adsorption from THF, but rapid and strong adsorption from CH2C12. For the most part, in systems where both polymer and filler were either acidic or basic, brittle films (or none at all) were obtained.
