The use of PowerPoint technology in the classroom has become very popular today because it is con... more The use of PowerPoint technology in the classroom has become very popular today because it is considered to enhance teaching quality. However, its use is not free from criticism with the emergence of phrases such as 'PowerPoint is Evil' and 'Death by PowerPoint'. Mathematics and teaching-learning mathematics have certain characteristics. Hence, the creation and execution of presentation in the class with PowerPoint format requires certain handling as well. This study intends to explore students' perceptions and teachers' judgments on the use of PowerPoint in mathematics teaching by teacher candidates. Participants in this study were 14 math teacher candidates, 5 math teachers, and 421 students of two vocational high schools. The student questionnaire result shows that with PowerPoint presentations, in general, students are motivated and helped to learn math, value the management of slide shows quite well, but tend to only listen to the teacher during the learning process, and feel that sometimes lessons are easier with PowerPoint, sometimes not. Teachers' observation result shows that most of the teacher candidates are good enough in organizing subject matter and slides of presentations.
This paper describes how mathematical Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) owned by students and teacher... more This paper describes how mathematical Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) owned by students and teachers in elementary education, which has been taken from a series of surveys of 379 students and 255 teachers in ten cities/regencies in Indonesia. Based on the results obtained, in some indicators, it still indicates a level of mathematical SRL that is of concern. However, both students and teachers in general have already had sufficient mathematical SRL, even though it does not show high levels. Several teachers and students still experience high level of anxiety when facing assignments or challenges, but they still feel motivated to complete the challenges by themselves.

Mathematical problem solving is an exercise for students to face non routine things and how to try to solve them. One of the programs which was held by the Religion Ministry that has a goal to produce human resources who are capable of solving daily life problems is Kompetisi Sains Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (Islamic Elementary School Science Competition) in level sub district, regency, province, and nation. The skills which were competed in this program were Mathematics and Science. This research aimed to study the students' skills of KSMI 2014 at Sumedang in answering question items of problem solving. The subject of this research was 57 students of 57 Islamic Elementary Schools who were selected by each school and considered having high mathematical problem solving skills. This competition was held in April 2014. The examined contents were Arithmatics, Geometry, and Data and Measurement. The result of this analysis of the students' answers informed that generally the students still felt difficult to solve the problems, especially in Geometry.

The ability of thinking logically needs to be developed due to the fact that it is an essential b... more The ability of thinking logically needs to be developed due to the fact that it is an essential basic skill. Logical thinking affects that giving reason must be true, and that a sequence of assumptions is based on the high truth value. Mathematics is a subject that functions to train students to think logically. The understanding of logic will help students to arrange the proof that support through process to finally arrive at a conclusion. Currently, metacognition is viewed as an essential element of learning. It refers to someone knowledge of processes and the result itself or of that connected to the process. Metacognition is needed when student solves the task that needs argumentation and logical understanding. In order to help student to skillful think logically, mathematics learning must be designed as such so that the condition will raise the skill of metacognitive acts.

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuasi-eksperimental dengan the pretest-post test control group design. Populasinya adalah siswa kelas X sebuah SMA Negeri di Kabupaten Sumedang, sedangkan yang menjadi sampel adalah dua kelas yang terdiri dari 70 siswa yang dipilih secara purposive. This paper reports the findings of a quasi-experiment that aims to investigate the role of metaco... more This paper reports the findings of a quasi-experiment that aims to investigate the role of metacognitive teaching-learning (MTL) and mathematical prior knowledge (MPK) on students' mathematical logical thinking ability (MLTA) and selfregulated learning (SRL). The subject of the study was 70 tenth-grade students inSumedang, Indonesia. One experimental group and one control group were used, and the students were grouped into three categories based on their mathematical prior knowledge (high, medium and low). The instruments of this study were a short-answer-MPK test, an essay MLTA test, and a SRL scale. The data were analyzed by using Anova, t-test, Mann-Whitney test, and Kruskal-Wallis test. The study find that compared to conventional learning, MTL gave better influence on students with medium MPK in MLTA and gave an overall better effect on students in SRL. However, for entirely students, the students' grades of SRL are fairly good, but the students' grades of MLTA are still low. There is no interaction between learning approaches and MPK on improving MLTA, and there is an interaction between learning approaches and MPK on improving SRL.
