The objective of this work is to minimize the patients discharge time (for insured patients) to be less than 50 minutes by using six sigma approach, this improvement will also: lead to an increase in customer satisfaction, increase the number of admissions and turnover on the rooms, increase hospital profitability.Three different departments were considered in this study: Female, Male, and Paediatrics. Six Sigma approach coupled with simulation has been applied to reduce the patients discharge time for pediatrics, female, and male departments at hospital. Upon applying these recommendations at hospital: 60%, 80%, and 22% of insured female, male, and pediatrics patients respectively will have discharge time less than the upper specification time i.e. 50 min.

Unfortunately, this low cost accompanied with low performance rate also. Methods: The low performance rate in mammograms is associated with low capability in determining the best region from which the features are extracted. Therefore, we offer an automatic method to detect the Region of Interest in the mammograms based on maximizing the area under receiver operating characteristic curve utilizing Genetic Algorithms. : The proposed method had been applied to the MIAS mammographic database, which is widely used in literature. Its performance had been evaluated using four different classifiers; Support Vector Machine, Naïve Bayes, K-Nearest Neighbor and Logistic Regression classifiers. Results & Conclusion: The results showed good classification performances for all the classifiers used due to the rich information contained in the features extracted from the autom...

Health care is also becoming more expensive and so there is a critical need to increase the efficiency of the health care delivery process. In this article, we look at the patient discharge process at a hospital in Amman, Jordan, with the objective of minimizing the discharge time without significantly increasing costs. This was done by building a simulation model of the discharge process and then optimizing it with a designed experiment and response surface model. This resulted in a 57% improvement in patients being discharged in less time than the goal of 50 minutes.

These processes tend to be predominantly off-line or end-of-line processes. The objective of the forcebased weld monitoring algorithm is to classify the weld status, i.e. cold, normal and expulsion, by using non-intrusive force sensor. It is composed mainly from two sub-algorithms: expulsion and normal welds detection. This algorithm has been tested on medium frequency direct current (MFDC) constant current (CC) control. The results were as follows: the percentage of the false alarm () type-1 error is the lowest for cold welds case at 3.6%, 11.0% for normal welds and 21.7% for expulsion welds. As for the failed alarm () type-2 error, the lowest percentage is for expulsion welds 1.9%, 3.4% for cold welds and 16.5% for normal welds.

This task can be alleviated if the weld controller is equipped with a voltage sensor in the secondary circuit. Replacing the goal of quantifying the weld quality in terms of button size by the more modest objective of indirect estimation of the class of the weld, e.g., satisfactory (acceptable, "normal" button size), unsatisfactory (undersized, "cold" welds), and defects ("expulsion"), further improves the feasibility of the mission of indirect estimation of the weld quality. This paper proposes an algorithmic framework based on a linear vector quantization (LVQ) neural network for estimation of the button size class based on a small number of dynamic resistance patterns for cold, normal, and expulsion welds that are collected during the stabilization process. Nugget quality classification by using an LVQ network was tested on two types of controllers; mediumfrequency direct current (MFDC) with constant current controller and alternating current (AC) with constant heat controller. In order to reduce the dimensionality of the input data vector, different sets of features are extracted from the dynamic resistance profile and are compared by using power of the test criteria. The results from all of these investigations are very promising and are reported here in detail.

Unfortunately, MTS lacks a method for determining an efficient threshold for the binary classification. In this paper, a nonlinear optimization model is formulated based on minimizing the distance between MTS Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) curve and the theoretical optimal point named Modified Mahalanobis Taguchi System (MMTS). To validate the MMTS classification efficacy, it has been benchmarked with Support Vector Machines (SVMs), Naive Bayes (NB), Probabilistic Mahalanobis Taguchi Systems (PTM), Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE), Adaptive Conformal Transformation (ACT), Kernel Boundary Alignment (KBA), Hidden Naive Bayes (HNB), and other improved Naive Bayes algorithms. MMTS outperforms the benchmarked algorithms especially when the imbalance ratio is greater than 400. A real life case study on manufacturing sector is us...
