Mahmoud Jazzar was conferred PhD degree in Computer Science from Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang, duringAugust 2009. He received M.Sc. degree in Computer Science major in Software Engineering from University ofMysore and B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Computer Science and Applications from Aligarh Muslim University – India in2002 and 1998 respectively. Prior working at Royal University for Women- Kingdom of Bahrain, He worked withAlquds University, Curtin University of Technology- Sarawak, and Birzeit University. Dr. Jazzar is also a memberof IEEE Computer Society, IAENG, MySEIG, and the Malaysian Information Technology Society (MITS). He joinedmany organizing and technical program committees and as a reviewer of many international conferences andjournals. His main research lies in the area of Computer and Network Securities, Intrusion Detection and Protection,Forensics, and Intelligent Systems. He has supervised several research projects, published one book and severalscientific research papers in his research domain.

Implications of Digitization on a Construction Organization: A Case Study

As the construction industry transitions to a post-pandemic world, the use of technology brought ... more As the construction industry transitions to a post-pandemic world, the use of technology brought forward by Construction 4.0 has accelerated. This increase in technological advancements has placed greater emphasis on the need for digitization and is consequently driving construction organizations to change. Thus, it becomes crucial to understand how digitization is affecting the organizational aspects of construction companies including strategy, structure, people and culture, and processes and technology. This study addresses the gap and presents a case study on a large EPC company (Company X) that has been going through a digitization organizational change of both engineering and construction services since 2017. The company is a legacy company that has been operating for over 100 years and is placed in the Top 400 Contractors List published by the Engineering News Record (ENR). Network analysis was performed on transcriptions from four semi-structured interviews conducted with company representatives to understand: (1) the drivers of digitization (weight of the past, push of the present, and pull of the future); (2) the response of Company X to successfully implement this organizational change (implications on strategy, structure, people and culture, and processes and technology); and (3) the challenges that digitization imposed on the organization. Findings of this paper offer a preview of the dynamics of the digitization organizational change and enable informed diagolgue around the drivers of, response to, and challenges of digitization in the construction industry. Organizations undergoing or planning a digitization information can reflect on the practices identified through this research to succesfully navigate through this organizational change.

The construction industry has undergone a significant and radical transformation in its design an... more The construction industry has undergone a significant and radical transformation in its design and documentation process as it evolved from the days of the drafting board to today's Building Information Modeling (BIM) process. At each stop along that journey, gains were made in information density and exchange. However, for all the progress made thus far, the paradox of designing the 3D in 2D space remains. This paradox indicates that new visualization technologies are needed to leverage the use of information in construction. Augmented Reality (AR), a pillar of the fourth industrial revolution, is an emerging technology that has great potential to transform the construction industry. AR can be described as an information aggregator that allows the user to passively view displayed information, actively engage and interact with published content, and collaborate with others in real-time from remote locations. While AR holds the key to advance the construction industry, no research project has yet comprehensively investigated the holistic integration of AR in construction. The contribution of this paper to the body of knowledge is a comprehensive map that establishes a sound framework for specifying the appropriate integration of AR into the construction phase. The comprehensive map is based on the Task-Technology Fit theory, where 23 use-cases of AR in the construction phase are identified and outlined as a function of nine AR capabilities and 14 AR potential benefits. The AR use-cases, capabilities and potential benefits are first discussed in the paper. Then, two AR applications are explored where the underlying use-cases are discussed and mapped as a function of their corresponding AR capabilities and potential Benefits. These AR applications provide an example illustrating the concept behind the comprehensive map. Finally, the comprehensive map is developed to provide a holistic framework to understand the integration of AR into the construction phase.

Integrating Construction 4.0 Technologies: A Four-Layer Implementation Plan

This research explores the current state of Construction 4.0 and discusses a four-layer implement... more This research explores the current state of Construction 4.0 and discusses a four-layer implementation of Construction 4.0 in the industry. The research methodology consists of an extensive literature review to gain insights about Construction 4.0 and frame the four-layer implementation plan. A case study is also presented to showcase the proposed implementation plan. Nine Construction 4.0 technologies were discussed, their integration throughout the project lifecycle was presented in a roadmap, their integration and connectivity with one another were outlined in an interaction roadmap, and the requirements necessary for achieving the 4.0 transformation were articulated. However, the proposed implementation plan is focused on nine Construction 4.0 technologies. The research presents a comprehensive plan for integrating Construction 4.0 technologies into the industry and serves as a guideline to help construction companies better understand the implications of Construction 4.0.

Even though they were not designed for long-term habitation, the camps quickly had their tents turn into concrete block structures with zinc roofs, which in turn became concrete-roof shelters. Today, around 455,000 refugees are registered with the United Nations Relief Works Agency (UNRWA) in Lebanon. Shatila camp, in southern Beirut, was set up by the International Committee of the Red Cross in 1949 to take in refugees from northern Palestine. Using FCM, our methodology attempt to diagnose and direct network traffic data based on its relevance to attack or normal connections. By quantifying the causal inference process, we can determine the attack detection and the severity of odd packets. As such, packets with low causal relations to attacks can be dropped or ignored and/or packets with high causal relations to attacks are to be highlighted. In this paper, we present a new real-time intrusion detection approach using FCM to replicate normal and attack network connection.
