In the procedure, the author has studied the theories to create algorithm and simulation utilizing MATLAB software to design 2-D FIR filter and therefore, tested its applications in restoring digital image having impulse noise.

Phalaenopsis spp. is the most commercially and economically important orchid, but their plant par... more Phalaenopsis spp. is the most commercially and economically important orchid, but their plant parts are often left unused, which has caused environmental problems. To date, reports on phytochemical analyses were most available on endangered and medicinal orchids. The present study was conducted to determine the total phenolics, total flavonoids, and antioxidant activity of ethanol extracts prepared from leaves and roots of six commercial hybrid Phalaenopsis spp. Leaf extracts of “Chian Xen Queen” contained the highest total phenolics with a value of 11.52 ± 0.43 mg gallic acid equivalent per g dry weight and the highest total flavonoids (4.98 ± 0.27 mg rutin equivalent per g dry weight). The antioxidant activity of root extracts evaluated by DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) free radical scavenging assay and β-carotene bleaching method was higher than those of the leaf extracts. Chúng tôi nghiên cứu hiện tượng chuyển pha của mô hình q-state clock hai chiều bằng phương pháp m... more Chúng tôi nghiên cứu hiện tượng chuyển pha của mô hình q-state clock hai chiều bằng phương pháp mô phỏng Monte Carlo. Chúng tôi tính toán các đại lượng vật lý như là: nhiệt dung riêng, độ từ hoá và mô đun xoắn cho q > 5 (cụ thể q = 6 và 8). Nhiệt dung riêng và độ từ hóa chỉ ra mô hình có hai chuyển pha, bao gồm chuyển pha trên, T2, giữa pha mất trật tự và pha giả trật tự và chuyển pha dưới, T1, giữa pha giả trật tự và pha trật tự. Mô đun xoắn không những chỉ ra T2 là chuyển pha Kosterlitz-Thouless mà còn có biểu hiện của chuyển pha T1.

In this study, responses of rice under drought stress correlating with changes in chemical compos... more In this study, responses of rice under drought stress correlating with changes in chemical compositions were examined. Among 20 studied rice cultivars, Q8 was the most tolerant, whereas Q2 was the most susceptible to drought. Total phenols, total flavonoids, and antioxidant activities, and their accumulation in water deficit conditions were proportional to drought resistance levels of rice. In detail, total phenols and total flavonoids in Q8 (65.3 mg gallic acid equivalent (GAE) and 37.8 mg rutin equivalent (RE) were significantly higher than Q2 (33.9 mg GAE/g and 27.4 mg RE/g, respectively) in both control and drought stress groups. Similarly, the antioxidant activities including DPPH radical scavenging, β-carotene bleaching, and lipid peroxidation inhibition in Q8 were also higher than in Q2, and markedly increased in drought stress. In general, contents of individual phenolic acids in Q8 were higher than Q2, and they were significantly increased in drought stress to much greater extents than in Q2. However, p-hydroxybenzoic acid was found uniquely in Q8 cultivars. In addition, only vanillic acid was found in water deficit stress in both drought resistant and susceptible rice, suggesting that this phenolic acid, together with p-hydroxybenzoic acid, may play a key role in drought-tolerance mechanisms of rice. The use of vanillic acid and p-hyroxybenzoic acid, and their derivatives, may be useful to protect rice production against water shortage stress.

This study evaluates the relative effectiveness of two types of form-focused instruction on the a... more This study evaluates the relative effectiveness of two types of form-focused instruction on the acquisition of the speech act set of constructive criticism by sixty-nine Vietnamese learners of English. Over a 10-week course, the explicit group (N = 28) participated in consciousness-raising activities, received explicit meta-pragmatic explanation and correction of errors of forms and meanings. The implicit group (N = 19), on the other hand, participated in pragmalinguistic input enhancement and recast activities. The two treatment groups were compared with a control group (N = 22) on pre-test and post-test performance, consisting of a discourse completion task, a role play and an oral peerfeedback task. A delayed post-test comprising of the same production tasks was also conducted for the two treatment groups to measure long term retention. The results revealed that both of the treatment groups significantly improved in the immediate posttest over the pre-test, outperforming the control group. The treatment groups also maintained their improvement in the delayed post-test. However, the explicit group performed significantly better than the implicit group on all measures. These findings are discussed with implications for classroom practices and future research.

In vitro and in vivo studies evaluating the rice grains with different pericarp colour (light brown, red and black) showed potential beneficial effects on health related to the polyphenol content of the grain, such as reduction of oxidative stress, aid in the prevention of cancer, cardiovascular diseases and complications of diabetes, among others.
