To establish the relationship between the elementary mechanisms of circulation in North America and the synoptic situations that influence the western half of Cuba, daily data from the Dzerdzeevskii classification and the types of synoptic situations that influence Cuba during the period 1971-2017 were used. The result shows the seasonality of the established relationships, where longitudinal circulations and types of anticyclonic situations predominate, with variations in the frequency of occurrence according to each climatic season of the year; winter (december-february) marked by north longitudinal circulations that are related to migratory anticyclonic situations and summer (june-august) by southern longitudinal circulations that are related to oceanic anticyclonic situations; as well as, two transition periods between those stations where changes in the types of longitudinal circulations occur and the variability of synoptic situations is high. Finally, trends were established for the types of synoptic situations, according to their relationship with the characteristics of the predominant atmospheric circulation, longitudinal north and longitudinal south. atmospheric circulation, elementary circulation mechanism, synoptic situatio. https://eqrcode.co/a/IiSgQV RESUMEN:

This paper focuses on the observed climate change impacts registered in Cuba, as a country representative of the general circumstances in the Caribbean basin. This region is one of the major tourist destinations of the world, due to the general quality of the environment and the existence of significant natural resources which are optimal for general tourism and ecotourism activities. The paper includes some remarks and recommendations oriented to the prevention and mitigation of the most negative climate change impacts on tourist activities, based upon Cuban experiences during the consecutive impacts of hurricanes Gustav and Ike in August and September 2008.

The subjective classification of synoptic situations proposed by Lapinel (1987) was applied. The analysis of weather types variability considered the multiannual, seasonal and day by day (inter-daily) characteristics, with the aim of knowing the possible presence of tendencies in the series, as well as the characteristics and frequency of their extreme values. Tendencies in the monthly anomalies of several types and subtypes of synoptic situations were identified, with regard to the mean behavior in the period 1971-2000. The seasonal variation of the main types and subtypes of synoptic situations also were analyzed, which allows indicating the adequate remark of some significant changes in the duration of climatic seasons during the year at the western region of Cuba. The influence of the meteorological processes in ...

In the showcase a Biometeorological Data Infrastructures (BDI) is presented in order to show how this technological platform based on a biometeorological model can be used to forecast potential climate-related health impacts and to define customized warning systems. It is asked to readers to download a mobile application for Android system (OxyAlert Beta) to report during several days how they feel through a questionnaire in order to correlate their answers with the different changes in the atmospheric oxygen content they have been exposed. Through this participatory approach, biometeorological profiles of participants can be defined in order to advise them or their relatives and friends about the potential risk they may be exposed in the future in relation to atmospheric oxygen
Climate change acts as a multiplier of existing human health problems (MCMICHAEL & WILCOX, 2009).... more Climate change acts as a multiplier of existing human health problems (MCMICHAEL & WILCOX, 2009). Therefore, the need arises to create measures to improve the population’s adaptive capacity to deal with human health risk associated to extreme meteorological events. Colombia already has public policies aiming to develop climate change adaptation plans. However, these policies do not include the need to outline specific adaptive strategies for the public health sector. Here we show the application of an objective method that allows the creation of base-line knowledge of climate variability in Colombia. This definition of the thermal regime for the country will be contrasted with a social vulnerability analysis and epidemiological data to obtain a wide set of observations to contribute with the planning of climate change adaptation initiatives implemented by governmental institutions in the country at the municipal level. The building of knowledge about current risks from changes in air temperature has been establishe... more The building of knowledge about current risks from changes in air temperature has been established as critical for informing the starting point for human health risk assessments in a climate-changing world. The study presented in this paper provides the application of the maximum/minimum temperature complex method in Colombia to identify the simultaneous behavior of daily extremes of air temperature and provide a tool to assess human health risks due to temperature variability. An established classification of mean temperatures exists for the country, and maximum and minimum temperatures have been studied but never as simultaneous variables. The max/min temperature complex analysis aims to describe the air temperature regime of a particular place by studying the frequency of simultaneous occurrence of extreme daily temperatures. The study consisted of the construction of a contingency table that combines the behavior of the daily maximum and minimum temperatures using a subdivision of 5°C intervals. A 5-year (2010-2015)-long dataset of 171 weather stations from the entire territory was prepared by identifying, filtering, and completing the missing data. Frequencies of occurrence of each interval were arranged in descending order to select the intervals of frequencies above 10%. Then, they were classified into categories, types, and subtypes. Six categories, seven types, and fifty-one subtypes were identified and mapped to ascertain their geographical distribution. In contrast with other climate regime classifications, our study found a regionalization of daily extremes of temperature that can be analyzed in different scales of time and space to aid health risk analysis.
