The La Bocaina Lagoon is a saltwater wetland of the Caribbean Sea, it is located in the San Esteb... more The La Bocaina Lagoon is a saltwater wetland of the Caribbean Sea, it is located in the San Esteban National Park, its hydrographic space is divided into two zones: coastal and deep, located in the Bay of Patanemo, place of great tourist affluence. The lagoon has presented notorious physical changes in its waters, as a result of the misuse and management of the man of said resource. The goal was to evaluate the water quality with the purpose of providing a physicochemical and microbiological support to the National Institute of Parks. Physicochemical and microbiological parameters were determined. When comparing this results obtained with the permissible limits established in the current legal regulations, it was found that the dissolved oxygen, the sedimentable solids, total coliforms and fats, oils and hydrocarbons are outside the permissible ranges. Later, the percentage estimation of the water quality index of the lagoon was carried out, with the purpose of defining its current condition in terms of quality, the evaluation of the impact of the lagoon.

This paper presents an extensive review of major research carried out in the area of chemical sen... more This paper presents an extensive review of major research carried out in the area of chemical sensors and its application in the control of gases in sensitive environments to pollution. The gases considered in this study as contaminants of reference [1] are: carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone (O3) and sulphur dioxide (SO2), as well as other compounds of impact as CO2, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), hydrocarbons (HC), oxides of nitrogen and sulphur in general (NOX and SOX). The existence of regulations have promoted the development of technology for the monitoring of the conditions in which are released to the environment pollutants to their control by providing essential information for an assertive decision-making. Then developed measuring equipment from contaminants based on di erent types of sensors and systems for monitoring necessary so that they can use in the monitoring and evaluation of the contamination [1]‐[3]. These systems include chemical sensors based on electrochemical and optical, piezoelectric transducers which, unlike the analytical methods, measure permanently and the place which produce atmospheric emissions and pollutants [4]‐[8].

The high consumption of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory analgesics and their low removal in waste... more The high consumption of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory analgesics and their low removal in wastewater treatment plants origins that their residues can be found in the effluents and the sludge, which constitute an important source of pharmaceutical compounds to the soil. The objective of this study was to determine the adsorption capacity of ibuprofen and diclofenac in two agricultural venezuelan soils through adsorption isotherms, which were developed by batch tests. The remnant pharmaceutical concentration in the aqueous phase was determined by high-resolution liquid chromatography with UV detector. The agitation time needed to reach the equilibrium condition was 8 hours and the soil/solution ratio was set to 1/2. The adsorptions of each pharmaceutical compound was adjusted by the Freundlich´s model. The adsorption coefficients were higher in the soil with acid pH because of the increasing in the non-dissociated form of the compounds, which promotes a larger interaction with the organic matter of the soil.

El prototipo del glucómetro diseñado esta basado en las técnicas espectroscópicas. Mediante la re... more El prototipo del glucómetro diseñado esta basado en las técnicas espectroscópicas. Mediante la reacción de glucosa con la hidroxilamina se obtiene la oxima de glucosa, compuesto a determinar dado que presenta un espectro de absorción en el rango de 200 a 260 nm, lo que no ocurre con la glucosa. La fuente de radiación fue seleccionada en base a estos valores. Un diseño de doble haz fue implementado para corregir posibles fluctuaciones en la fuente principalmente. Los detectores son fotodiodos de silicio y el sistema de registro hace uso del amplificador logarítmico LOG102, el amplificador operacional LM 308N y el microcontrolador PIC16F873A, componentes de alta precisión. El instrumento propuesto fue calibrado con concentraciones de oxima de glucosa comprendidas ente 5 a 15 ppm. El factor de calibración calculado es 0.0140 y permite obtener el valor de la concentración de glucosa directamente. Este diseño se presenta como una alternativa de fácil uso y cómoda manipulación. Leather samples were prepared and characterized as 'in house' matrix standards fo... more Leather samples were prepared and characterized as 'in house' matrix standards for the determination of fat. The Soxhlet standard method was used to establish the reference fat content in every standard sample. Sample homogeneity and stability were examined under specific storing conditions. The materials were subsequently used as matrix standards for the determination of fat in leather samples, using supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) with on-line piezoelectric detection. Real samples were weighed in the extraction SFE thimble, previously loaded with 1 g of diatomaceous earth. A temperature of 45 degrees C and a CO2 fluid density of 0.85 g ml-1 were used for extraction. The linear calibration range thus achieved was 0.001-0.040% m/m total fat (related to the weight of the leather) and the relative standard deviation +/- 3% (n = 11; P = 0.05). The results were compared with those obtained with the Soxhlet method and no significant differences were found.

Chlorine is used to improve the bacteriological quality of the water, but when the addition is to... more Chlorine is used to improve the bacteriological quality of the water, but when the addition is too high a number of chemical reactions originate Secondary among which are those associated with the phenol to lead to the production of harmful organochlorine compounds health, highlighting the species being pentachlorophenol more toxic. Therefore, the need to develop a robust, sensitive and simple application technique for treatment of water samples from potabilizados systems in order to detect these compounds, for the concentrations at which they are often the ündetectablec ¸onventional instrumental methods ago. The developed preconcentration method proved to be the best system for treating samples of water intended for human consumption. The most important conclusions that throws this work is that the proposed method is applicable to samples drinking water, which were off limits established by legislation.

A previously published writing or with a high percentage of paragraphs taken from other authors without the proper reference or the correct use of the "textual citation" resource is insupportable, due to the consequences that it entails from the point of view of the integrity of the journal that publishes it, as well as the legal actions to which both the members of the editorial committee and the authors who have incurred the fault are exposed. In order to guarantee the quality of the work carried out in the journal Ciencia en Revolución, this document includes the main aspects of the antiplagic policy being carried out. To begin with, the definition of plagiarism and the importance of its detection are exposed. The most common types are identified below, clarifying the cases in which they are not incurred. Next, some of the tools used by technical publishing to detect plagiarism are examined. Finally, recommendations are given to the authors.

The given concept covers many areas of academic society; furthermore, open science is supported by open data, open source, open access, and open review. It has a clear, free, discovered, broad and expeditious methodology; with open sources in software and hardware that allow the entire community greater accessibility. The purpose of open science is the production of public scientific goods through the exchange of results and collaboration. In extreme cases it can replace the teacher but can also be used as reinforcement in the teaching of the subject that can be applied remotely through different devices such as PC, mobile telephony, tablet among others. Its objective is to teach chemistry in an entertaining and simple way with a view to awakening in students' reasoned and methodical curiosity about this important branch of knowledge. In the present year, one of his video classes was featured in the History of Science category, in the Science in <em>Festival Ciencias en Videos -- Semilleros Científicos</em> organized by the Mincyt.
