The process studied is Rb(5S1/2 )+ He + hrv --> Rb(5P(J)) +He, where the pulsed laser frequency v is tuned in the wings of the Rb resonance transitions. The authors defined the detuning delta to be v-v (D2 )(delta > 0) for laser frequency v highter than that of RbD2 transition and to be v-v (D1)(delta < 0) for v lower than the RbD1 transition. As RbHe molecular states are correlated to the two 5 2P(J) states, there is some likelihood that the molecule will dissociate into 5 2P1/2 or 5P3/2 state. The dissociation results in a nonuniform distribution of atomic Rb5P(J) states. The branching ratios are defined as n1/n2, where n1 and n2 are densities of the 5P1/2 and 5P3/2 states dissociated. To determine experimentally the relative cross section for scattering into the two fine-structure states, the relative time-intergrated intensities of the resulting Rb emission lines, I(5P3/2 --> 5P1/2 )[I(D2)] and I(5P1/2 --> 5P3/2) ) [I(D1)], were measured. The ratios are determined by detunings from about 200 cm(-1) in the blue wing to -180 cm(-1) in the red wing of the Rb5P multiplet. A rate equation analysis of the pressure dependence was yielded. The branching ratios and cross sections for collisional 5P1/2 --> 5P3/2 transition were obtained from the slope and intercept. The blue-wing branching ratios show a detuning-dependent approach to limit of 0. 2. The branching was found to be very large (-40) in the red wing, irrespective of the detuning. Fine structure changing cross section (1.1 +/- 0.3) x 10(-17) cm2 was measured from wing excitation, and the result is consistent with the cross section obtained from resonant excitation of the Rb5P(J) state. The measurements show a strong sensitivity to interatomic potentials and to nonadiabatic effects in dissociation dynamics.

We evaluate the efficacy, safety and cost-effectiveness of ribavirin (RBV)-free pan-oral direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) in treatment-experienced Chinese with GT1b CHC, including patients with cirrhosis. One hundred forty treatment-experienced GT1b CHC Chinese with and without cirrhosis were included in this study. Ninety-four patients were treated with either daclatasvir (DCV, 60 mg)-sofosbuvir (SOF, 400 mg) (group 1, n = 46) or ledipasvir (LDV, 90 mg)-SOF (400 mg) (group 2, n = 48) for 12 weeks. We performed an observational study to determine the incidence of and factors associated with hepatitis in 327 patients receiving pan-oral DAA agents for HCV infections in areas endemic for HBV in China. Ten patients were positive for hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and 124 patients had occult HBV infection. HBV reactivation was determined by measuring HBV DNA and HBsAg status in serial serum samples collected every 2 weeks during DAA treatment and then every 4 weeks after treatment until week 12. Increasing evidence indicates that dysregulation of microRNAs (miRNAs) plays critical roles in ma... more Increasing evidence indicates that dysregulation of microRNAs (miRNAs) plays critical roles in malignant transformation and tumor progression. Previously, we have shown that microRNA-451 (miR-451) inhibits growth, increases chemo- or radiosensitivity and reverses epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) in lung cancer. However, the roles of miR-451 in hepatocelluar carcinoma (HCC) progression and metastasis are still largely unknown. Reduced miR-451 in HCC tissues was observed to be significantly correlated with advanced clinical stage, metastasis and worse disease-free or overall survival. Through gain- and loss-of function experiments, we demonstrated that miR-451 inhibited cell growth, induced G0/G1 arrest and promoted apoptosis in HCC cells. Importantly, miR-451 could inhibit the migration and invasion in vitro, as well as in vivo metastasis of HCC cells through regulating EMT process. Moreover, the oncogene c-Myc was identified as a direct and functional target of miR-451 in HCC cells. Knockdown of c-Myc phenocopied the effects of miR-451 on EMT and metastasis of HCC cells, whereas overexpression of c-Myc partially attenuated the functions of miR-451 restoration. Furthermore, miR-451 downregulation-induced c-Myc overexpression leads to the activation of Erk1/2 signaling, which induces acquisition of EMT phenotype through regulation of GSK-3β/snail/E-cadherin and the increased expression of MMPs family members in HCC cells. Collectively, these data demonstrated that miR-451 is a novel prognostic biomarker for HCC patients and that function as a potential metastasis inhibitor in HCC cells through activation of the Erk1/2 signaling, at least partially by targeting c-Myc. Thus, targeting miR-451/c-Myc/Erk1/2 axis may be a potential strategy for the treatment of metastatic HCC.
A new-type composite photocatalyst of three-dimensional ordered macroporous (3DOM) TiO2/C was pre... more A new-type composite photocatalyst of three-dimensional ordered macroporous (3DOM) TiO2/C was prepared and tested in this paper. 3DOM carbon materials were first prepared by colloidal crystal templating process, and then the sols of TiO2 from tetrabutyl titanate were infiltrated in the macroporous structures via capillary force. After calcinations at nitrogen flow, TiO2/C composite materials were prepared. The obtained samples were analyzed by SEM, TEM, XRD and BET. The results indicated that macroporous TiO2/C can remain the three-dimensional ordered structure and TiO2 nanoparticles distributed in the interior of macropores uniformly. Eventually, 3DOM TiO2/C materials were used as a new-type photocatalysts to decompose the methyl orange solution under ultraviolet light, which displayed excellent catalytic activity and regenerative ability.

It is known that postnatal functional maturation of the small intestine is facilitated by microbi... more It is known that postnatal functional maturation of the small intestine is facilitated by microbial colonization of the gut. Preterm infants exhibit defects in gut maturation, weak innate immunity against intestinal infection and increased susceptibility to inflammatory disorders, all of which may be related to the inappropriate microbial colonization of their immature intestines. The earliest microbes to colonize the preterm infant gut encounter a naïve, immature intestine. Thus this earliest microbiota potentially has the greatest opportunity to fundamentally influence intestinal development and immune function. The aim of this study was to characterize the effect of early microbial colonization on global gene expression in the distal small intestine during postnatal gut development. Gnotobiotic mouse models with experimental colonization by early (prior to two weeks of life) intestinal microbiota from preterm human infants were utilized. Microarray analysis was used to assess global gene expression in the intestinal epithelium. Multiple intestinal genes involved in metabolism, cell cycle regulation, cell-cell or cell-extracellular matrix communication, and immune function are developmental- and intestinal microbiota- regulated. Using a humanized gnotobiotic mouse model, we demonstrate that certain early preterm infant microbiota from prior to 2 weeks of life specifically induce increased NF-κB activation and a phenotype of increased inflammation whereas other preterm microbiota specifically induce decreased NF-κB activation. These fundamental differences correlate with altered clinical outcomes and suggest the existence of optimal early microbial communities to improve health outcomes.

We aimed to investigate the prevalence of anemia and its association with serum magnesium in a nationally representative sample. A total of 8,511 participants aged 18 years and over were recruited in this cross-sectional survey in 2009. Anemia was defined as hemoglobin concentration less than 130 g/l for men and less than 120 g/l for women. Multiple logistic regression models were applied to explore the association of magnesium and anemia. The prevalence of anemia in total was 14.0% with 8.8% for men and 18.5% for women (P<0.0001), respectively. The interaction terms between magnesium and gender and ferritin were significant (P<0.001). Background: Studies of the prevalence of dyslipidemia and its association with insomnia are scarc... more Background: Studies of the prevalence of dyslipidemia and its association with insomnia are scarce in China. This study investigated the prevalence of dyslipidemia and its association with insomnia in a community based Chinese population. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional survey in Beijing and recruited 10054 participants aged ≥18 years. The association between self-reported insomnia and dyslipidemia was determined by multiple logistic regression models. Age, gender, education, obesity, body mass index, physical activity, current smoking, current drinking, diabetes, and hypertension were adjusted as confounders. Odds ratios (ORs) with corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were reported as effect measurements. Results: The prevalence of dyslipidemia in those with no insomnia, occasional insomnia, and frequent insomnia were 53.3%, 54.3%, and 54.5% in men and 52.0%, 54.8%, and 61.2% in women. Compared with subjects with no insomnia, the multivariate adjusted ORs and 95% CIs for those with occasional insomnia and frequent insomnia were 1.07(0.86~1.34) and 1.19(0.89~1.60) for men, and 1.00(0.86~1.14) and 1.23(1.03~1.47) for women.

To date, fatty acid-derived pathways for alkane and alkene bioproduction have been thoroughly explored. In this study, we engineered the pathway of the iterative Type I polyketide synthase (PKS) SgcE with the cognate thioesterase (TE) SgcE10 in Escherichia coli, with the goal of overproducing pentadecaheptaene (PDH) followed by its hydrogenation to pentadecane (PD). Based on initial in vitro titration assays, we learned that PDH production is strongly dependent on the SgcE10:SgcE ratio. We aimed to investigate the prevalence of anemia and its association with serum magnesium in a nationally representative sample. A total of 8,511 participants aged 18 years and over were recruited in this cross-sectional survey in 2009. Anemia was defined as hemoglobin concentration less than 130 g/l for men and less than 120 g/l for women. Multiple logistic regression models were applied to explore the association of magnesium and anemia. The prevalence of anemia in total was 14.0% with 8.8% for men and 18.5% for women (P<0.0001), respectively. The interaction terms between magnesium and gender and ferritin were significant (P<0.001). Typical operating pressure of H2 was 60-300 Pa. The cross section for Li(2P)+H2-->LiH+H reaction was measured using method of atomic fluorescence. The decay signal of the time-resolved fluorescence from the 2P-->2S transition was monitored. The decay curve of the Li(2P) can be treated as a single exponential function. Background: Studies of the prevalence of dyslipidemia and its association with insomnia are scarc... more Background: Studies of the prevalence of dyslipidemia and its association with insomnia are scarce in China. This study investigated the prevalence of dyslipidemia and its association with insomnia in a community based Chinese population. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional survey in Beijing and recruited 10054 participants aged ≥18 years. The association between self-reported insomnia and dyslipidemia was determined by multiple logistic regression models. Age, gender, education, obesity, body mass index, physical activity, current smoking, current drinking, diabetes, and hypertension were adjusted as confounders. Odds ratios (ORs) with corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were reported as effect measurements. Results: The prevalence of dyslipidemia in those with no insomnia, occasional insomnia, and frequent insomnia were 53.3%, 54.3%, and 54.5% in men and 52.0%, 54.8%, and 61.2% in women. Compared with subjects with no insomnia, the multivariate adjusted ORs and 95% CIs for those with occasional insomnia and frequent insomnia were 1.07(0.86~1.34) and 1.19(0.89~1.60) for men, and 1.00(0.86~1.14) and 1.23(1.03~1.47) for women.

We have reported that alcohol intake increases Pol III gene transcription to promote cell transformation and tumor formation in vitro and in vivo. Studies revealed that tumor suppressors, pRb, p53, PTEN and Maf1 repress the transcription of Pol III genes. BRCA1 is a tumor suppressor and its mutation is tightly related to breast cancer development. However, it is not clear whether BRCA1 expression affects alcohol-induced transcription of Pol III genes. To date, fatty acid-derived pathways for alkane and alkene bioproduction have been thoroughly explored. In this study, we engineered the pathway of the iterative Type I polyketide synthase (PKS) SgcE with the cognate thioesterase (TE) SgcE10 in Escherichia coli, with the goal of overproducing pentadecaheptaene (PDH) followed by its hydrogenation to pentadecane (PD). Based on initial in vitro titration assays, we learned that PDH production is strongly dependent on the SgcE10:SgcE ratio. Thus, we engineered a high-yield E. coli strain by fine-tuning SgcE10 expression via synthetic promoters.
