The purpose of this analysis is to determine which master interface has the best performance for a specific task in which the master-slave scale factor is less than one. Three haptic interfaces have been considered: two commercial masters, one with serial configuration, the PHANToM 1.5 prototype master, and one with spherical setup, the Microsoft Force Feedback 2 Sidewinder; and other one non commercial with a parallel architecture designed in our laboratory, the Magister-P. Two experiments performed to measure the fidelity of the haptic interfaces have been described and the results obtained have been discussed on this paper.

The purpose of this paper was to obtain leaching risk maps of the pesticides imidacloprid, lambda-cyhalothrin, and chlorpyrifos in agricultural soil under an onion (Allium cepa L.) crop in Tibasosa, Boyacá, Colombia. This was obtained by studying the soil types in the area, analyzing the behavior of pollutants in the soil profile, using a delay factor and an attenuation factor to finally include GIS allowing visualization of the areas of greater potential risk in the study area.

Compared to other areas, the study of the relationship between music and human biology has received limited attention. At the same time, evidence of music’s value in clinical science, neuroscience, and social science keeps increasing. This review article synthesizes the existing knowledge of genetics related to music. While the success of genomics has been demonstrated in medical research, with thousands of genes that cause inherited diseases or a predisposition to multifactorial disorders identified, much less attention has been paid to other human traits. We argue for the development of a new discipline, sensogenomics, aimed at investigating the impact of the sensorial input on gene expression and taking advantage of new, discovery-based ‘omic’ approaches that allow for the exploration of the whole transcriptome of individuals under controlled experiments and circumstances.

Processing SWOT data will be challenging, because of the large amount of data, the mismatch between high spatial resolution and low temporal resolution, and the observation errors. The present paper focuses on the reduction of the spatially structured errors of SWOT SSH data. It investigates a new error reduction method and assesses its performance in an observing system simulation experiment. The proposed error reduction method first projects the SWOT SSH onto a subspace spanned by the SWOT spatially structured errors. This projection is removed from the SWOT SSH to obtain a detrended SSH. The detrended SSH is then processed within an ensemble data assimilation analysis to retrieve a full SSH field. In the latter step, the detrending is applied to both the SWOT data and an ensemble o...

The richness and abundance of aquatic plant communities were studied in 14 habitats of the Venezuelan "llanos" (07º35'-07º55' N-68º50'-69°00' W, Apure) during an annual cycle. Annual means were 27ºC, 115 mm rainfall and 77% relative humidity. A permanent transect was set in each habitat (ten consecutive square meter quadrats from the shore to the water). The plants and the area they covered in each quadrat were recorded monthly for a year. The total richness was 69 species. Alatalo and Alatalo's diversity analysis indicats that season, and its correlate, water level, influence species diversity and abundance more than habitat (spatial factor: geometric index-Euclidean distance).

A new smooth task function is proposed and a continuous control law is obtained by imposing the exponential decrease of this task function to zero. Finally, the visual servoing techniques used to carry out the navigation are the image-based and the intrinsic-free approaches. Both are independent of calibration errors which is very useful since it is so difficult to get a good calibration in this kind of systems. Also, the second technique allows us to control the camera in spite of the variation of its intrinsic parameters. So, it is possible to modify the zoom of the camera, for instance to get more details, and drive the camera to its reference position at the same time. An exhaustive number of experiments using virtual reality worlds to simulate a typical indoor environment have been carried out.
