The survey sample consisted of four secondary and preparatory schools, four school principals, four school continuous professional development (CPD) coordinators, one CPD focal person and 198 teachers. The major findings of the study were 1) there was positive perception of teachers toward school based CPD program in the study area, and 2) even though teachers have positively perceived but the practice of CPD program implementation is at low level in the sampled school. As the findings of the study confirmed, teachers" lack of support from school management and supervisors, and lack of collaboration with teachers and school leaders were among the factors that affected the implementation of CPD program in the stduyarea. The study also indicate as teachers with more teaching experience relatively positively perceive the programs and teachers with 2nd degree holders practice more CPD activities than 1st degree holders in the study area. On the basis of these results, some suggested were recommended for policy makers and future research.

The claim made in this paper is that the two concepts support and fulfill each other. Cooperative learning takes place when students work in groups and share information based on alternative ways of thinking. Too often, however, the group discussion does not stimulate alternative views, and students too quickly fall into a common and narrow way of thinking, because of leading group dominance, and the guarding of given material (text book) influence. This is still cooperative learning, but of less value. The most valuable learning happens when students put forward multiple views based on their different background and personal theories, in addition to; the given materials and this enhances students challenge each other in real debates. In this way of learning, students act similar to scientists, historians, mathematicians and other academics, because all academic debates are based...

The educational sector in Ethiopia has been given powerful impetus after the overthrow of the military government in 1991. Since then education has been a development priority on the national agenda. The government developed Education Training Policy and Education Sector Strategy in 1994. And adopt the Education Sector Development Programme in 1997 together with the Education Training Policy. Furthermore, Ethiopia is working towards achieving the education for all goals as defined in the Dakar Framework in 2000. The educational policy goals, strategies and program are addressing the problems of access, equity, quality, and relevance in education.

To accomplish the objective, the study employed a descriptive-survey research design. There were 24 teachers who took part in the survey, which account 20% of total sample frame, using simple random sampling techniques (Lottery system). While, the nonprobability sampling, i.e. purposive sampling technique was used to select both the town and Schools. The study used a self-structured questionnaire (for quantitative) and a semi-structured guide questions (for qualitative) to collect the necessary data regarding the issue. The analysis of the quantitative data was carried out by using percentages, triangulated with the data with interview. The study found out that, the strengths of the newly revised television...

Monitoring provides the planners and decision-makers with required information about the current state of its development and the nature of changes that have occurred. Remote sensing and Geographical Information System have gained importance as powerful and efficient tools for land cover mapping of inaccessible area. Digital image classification is generally performed to produce land cover maps from remote sensing data, particularly for large areas. In this project, LANDSAT 7 ETM+ 2000 data was prepared for producing land cover map of study area, Nechisar National Park. Digital image processing techniques were conducted for the processes of radiometric and geometric correction and classification for land cover analysis. Additionally, training data for supervised classification were collected ...

More specifically, we estimate the cost X-efficiency levels for a large sample of commercial, savings and co-operative banking institutions operating in the EU-15 (European Union) over 1998-2003 by using alternative parametric frontiers across bank-and market-based countries classified using the World Bank Financial Structure Database . In line with the main literature, it is found that cost X-inefficiencies are on average 23% and the Fourier-flexible should be the preferred functional form to model EU banks' production processes. However, while non-listed commercial institutions appear less cost efficient than the listed ones, on the whole our results reject the agency theory hypothesis that managers of privately-owned banks are more cost efficient than those of mutual banking institutions because of capital market devices. In particular, we find that mutual banks operating in the EU-15 countries are significantly more cost efficient than the commercial banks included in our sample. Furthermore, results are mixed concerning the financial structure hypothesis that in developed financial systems bank efficiency should not be statistically different across bank-versus market-based economies. Specifically, we find that while the hypothesis seems to hold for the sub-sample of commercial banks, in bank-based countries savings banks have significant cost efficiency advantages over those operating in market-based ones and over commercial banks.
