This paper investigates how radian measure can be taught via distance learning delivery modality. An Online Lesson Study was conducted, and the research lesson was implemented for first-year college students taking Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics at a state university in the Philippines. The recorded dialogues during the post-lesson discussion were transcribed and analyzed by the researchers. Through these processes, three themes emerged: (1) logistical issues in online teaching, (2) alignment of purpose and approach in online teaching, and (3) theoretical underpinnings for online teaching. Hence, online lesson study provides a venue for teachers to pursue professional development amidst the pandemic.

Lesson study, a professional development program that enables teachers to collaborate to improve teaching and learning quality, was utilized to get necessary data needed for the study. The authors aimed to see to what extent Van Hiele's Model affects the students' engagement and development of knowledge in the learning of the research topic. Some observations during the research lesson were as follows: 1) retention of prior knowledge on quadrilaterals was little to nonevident to the students 2) most students still use jargons in order to describe the properties of quadrilaterals and 3) most students were not able to showcase skills in measuring lengths and angles in identifying properties of the quadrilaterals. Given these observations, the following recommendations were as follows: 1) continuous integration and use of mathematical tools such as ruler and protractor in teaching different concepts and processes in Mathematics 2) identifying the level of the learners' readiness based on the Van Hiele's model to provide appropriate examples and activities in the context of the students 3) providing hands-on activities such as geometric construction and measuring activities that would enhance students' capabilities in reasoning and proving. Lesson study served as a powerful tool to reflect on the researchers' processes and activities in conducting the study.

The country’s firm stand on improving the human capital, and its science, technology and innovation (Philippine Development Plan [PDP], 2017) is our way towards concretizing Education 4.0, to help bridge us to the FIRe phenomenon (featuring technological revolution to converge and fuse human and the cyber world [Van Duuren 2017] through analytics, artificial intelligence, cognitive technologies and the internet of things [IoT] Renjen 2018]to design interconnected digital enterprises capable of more informed decision making tasks [Mars et al., 2014]). We also confirm that a strong STEAM (professionals, and education) will contribute to the knowledge society and economy of the country (Government Office of the Slovak Republic 2018; Morales, 2017), as well as improve its economic competence and competitiveness (English, 2016). The Philippine context STEAM (where “A” refers to Agri/fisheries) in higher and advanced learning focuses on several aspects of teaching and learning, and on the merging of the disciplines to teach a particular STEAM content (Morales et al., 2019), thus, we explore the possibility of generating the Philippine STEAM Education model as our blueprint for STEAM higher and advanced learning and our way towards realizing the country’s development plan themed as AmbisyonNatin 2040 (PDP, 2017). We theorize that weaving all concepts and principles drawn from the nation’s policies, standards, and guidelines defined by its Commission on Higher Education (CHED) for the individual STEAM programs, tempered by the principles of the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers, and looking at these extracted principles, ideas and concepts from the lens of TPACK may help define a contextualized model for the Philippines, which the current study, “TPACK in Philippine STEAM Education,” shares.

It also concurrently examines the integration of Ignatian values and social issues in learning the said concept. This study aimed to establish a culture of planning, collaboration, and reflection in developing the understanding and relevance of mathematical concepts in grade school through lesson study. The study showed how the process of lesson study was done given the following phases: planning phase, implementation phase, and post-lesson reflection and discussion phase. Emphasis on the planning phase was given on the details of the lesson design which aimed to integrate Ignatian values in the discussion while developing algebraic thinking from quasi-variable thinking delivered in the implementation phase. Findings highlighted on three statements: i) Collaborative lesson planning nurtures a deeper sense of scholarship and collegiality; ii) Building algebraic...

The post-lesson discussion and a posteriori analysis proved the lesson to be a practical means to address the issue as it was able to put forward discourses and elaborations on possible students’ understanding of variables generated through attempts to describe patterns occurring in sequences presented. Algebra is an important area of mathematics used in generalising arithmetic through letters, symbols and signs—the use of which makes it an abstract subject (Ali Samo, 2009). Furthermore, the abstractness of algebra is one reason for students’ problems (Lee & Wheeler, 1989). It has been the practice of mathematics educ...

In view of enhancing the teaching pedagogy of teachers, this paper sought to investigate the impact of Lesson Study (LS) in teaching pedagogy through the delivery of netiquette instruction – a topic that was deemed very relevant to young adults in this Information Age. The process of LS revealed themes that pointed out how teaching pedagogy could be enhanced. In the light of the LS process, teachers’ collaboration in the preparation of lesson and conduct of classroom instruction revealed a significant ruminations on how lessons could be improved. In particular, the post-lesson debriefing revealed that the presence of integration of empathy in the conduct of instruction was a positive teaching practice. However, the need for the following concerns to further enhance teaching pedagogy th...

This is achieved through a Lesson Study and the notions of Productive Pedagogies. Lesson study as a methodology is an effective way to maximize student learning inside the classroom as it enables teachers to effectively design and implement lessons. Post-lesson discussion yields comments and suggestions that may be classified under two general ideas: (1) Foster a student-centered environment and (2) Evaluate the learning of students by giving them Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) questions. Based on the four dimensions of productive pedagogies, the lesson is successfully implemented by the teacher, although it is evident that most of the students have difficulty transitioning from Math expression to verbal or English expression. The comments and suggestions given by the observers really help the teacher to execute lessons ...

More so, the purpose of the study aims to use the GT through LS in teaching probability courses to Senior High School (SHS) students. A qualitative case study was adopted in which a team was created to conduct an LS. Results revealed that the use of gamification was perceived to be effective in teaching probability to SHS students.
