However, organizations in Middle Eastern countries have been slow in adopting B2B EC technologies. To enrich our understanding of the reasons for this slow uptake, this exploratory study compares the experience of Bahraini and Australian organizations with the adoption of B2B EC technologies. This study employs a multiple case study with a total of 14 organizations from the grocery industry of both countries. From the case comparison, we identify some reasons for the reluctance of organizations in Bahrain to adopt B2B EC technologies, although the national environment and the organizational capability generally support the adoption. We particularly highlight the importance of the positive mutual interactions between organizations and their trading partners within the industry for the adoption of B2B EC, which is currently lacking within the Bahraini grocery industry.

While some organisations have gained many benefits, some have experienced very limited benefits from IOS adoption. Existing studies have identified a number of factors affecting the achievement of IOS benefits. This is a research-in-progress study that is aimed at assessing the relevance of factors identified from the literature in explaining the benefits obtained by Australian organizations from IOS adoption, using four case studies conducted with two pharmaceutical and two grocery manufacturing companies.

However, IOS adoption has proved to be difficult and, at this stage, why this is so is not fully uncovered. Based on a previously published empirical study, the authors argue that the "factor" approach, which has been widely used to study technology adoption, is not generally appropriate to study IOS adoption. To further examine this claim, this paper reviews the literature in order to identify the current state of IOS adoption studies. For this purpose, the factor and processual approaches are defined and used to bring order to the existing studies. This review finds that, until recently the majority of IOS studies have used the factor approach and that they have yielded inconsistent results. It also demonstrates that the use of the processual approach is just being recognized and a research gap exists for this kind of study.

However, the management of sustainable supply chain is complex because it is inter-organisational in nature involving different and sometimes conflicting objectives and priorities among various stakeholders. Successful implementation of sustainable supply chain practices requires a set of specific organisational capabilities. Currently, very little is known about what capabilities are required and how information technology (IT) can enable those capabilities. This paper aims to address this knowledge gap by identifying a set of possible IT-enabled capabilities based on Affordance Theory. We put forward a novel approach that demonstrates how Affordance Theory could be applied to discover the roles of IT in capability development to support the successful implementation of sustainable supply chain manage...

Due to the inter-organizational nature of ECR, its adoption involves various parties with different and conflicting objectives and requires the concerted effort of supply chain members. Thus, third party organizations may be important in ECR adoption, but the exact roles they play have received little research attention. Employing a multiple case study, this study uncovers five roles third parties play and extends a previously published model of ECR adoption to include third parties as mediators in the ECR adoption process. The results are important theoretically for understanding the complexities of inter-organizational systems adoption general, and practically to promote the growth of ECR in particular. .

Interorganizational Systems (IOS) adoption requires cooperation and collaboration between trading... more Interorganizational Systems (IOS) adoption requires cooperation and collaboration between trading partners and, therefore, is reliant on the nature of their relationships. There has been some research that investigates relationships and how organizations progress from one level to the next level of adoption. However, these studies do not adequately justify the exclusion of other variables and are not theoretically based. This research extends the Kurnia and Johnston (2000) process model of IOS adoption by incorporating the notion of IOS adoption maturity and also modifies it from a supply chain to a dyadic level so better evaluations of progression can be performed. With this model, the dynamics of IOS adoption maturity can be better examined empirically.

The IOS involves two parties using the system and therefore its success depends on the existing relationship between trading partners. While there are some studies that investigate relationship factors and how they affect adoption, the literature does not specifically highlight that these systems may be implemented in progressive stages over time. This is because these studies typically adopt a cross sectional approach by only taking a snapshot of IOS adoption at single point in time. They do not present an over all picture of adoption decisions and do not explain why and how organizations adopt these systems in a phased approach. In this paper, we investigate IOS adoption by a pair of major organizations in the Australian Grocery Industry over a period of time. We illustrate, using a case study, that a particular level of relationship between the two organizations is required for IOS use and that the initial use of the IOS also affects the relationship which in turn results in more sophisticated IOS adoption. The findings of this study have important implications for both research and practice.

There has not been any well‐developed theory that can explain this slow uptake. Argues that the inherent characteristics of ECR have actually created barriers to its own adoption. As an inter‐organisational system (IOS), ECR adoption requires co‐operation and trust between trading partners, which are unlikely to happen unless costs, benefits and risks of ECR implementation can be mutually shared. Shows, using a case study conducted within one supply chain, that an unequal distribution of costs, benefits and risks among manufacturer, distributor and retailer is inherent in the implementation of cross‐docking, which typifies the overall ECR program. The findings of this study lead to a new direction in understanding the barriers to adoption of ECR and IOS in general.

EA facilitates information systems planning and helps improve business and IT alignment. Traditionally, the concept of EA was closely coupled with the business strategy and mainstream EA methodologies recommend starting the EA effort from documenting the business strategy and then using it as the basis for defining the required structure of information systems. This conceptual paper discusses in detail four practical problems with the business strategy that question its value as the basis for EA initiatives. The presence of these problems challenges one of the most cherished beliefs or even axioms of the EA discipline: that EA should be based on the business strategy. This paper raises a number of questions regarding the information inputs necessary for the EA effort and calls for further research in respective directions.

Developed countries have actively adopted e-Commerce and have made it an integral part of business activities. Despite its ability to bridge economic and digital gap between developing and developed countries, developing countries are still slow in e-Commerce adoption. Currently, there is still a lack of e-Commerce readiness research in developing countries to fully assess the relevance of e-Commerce in these unique environments. This study aims to shed light into the e-Commerce readiness in China, by assessing technological, organizational and environmental contexts of the grocery industry. The uniqueness of China in various aspects including cultural, economic and political, poses different challenges and requires different strategies to encourage widespread adoption of e-Commerce. 1.

One way to reduce cart-abandonment rates is to send push notifications as a reminder to persuade customers to complete their transaction. A stimulus-organism-response (SOR) framework is used as the conceptual foundation. The stimulus is the push notification, then the organism perceives the value of the product, and purchase intention is the response. The push notification is designed to use message framing, which can be gain-framed or loss-framed. The personalization effect is also analyzed, because it has been shown to persuade users with marketing and promotional products effectively. This study also compares two product types: utilitarian and hedonic. The study was conducted with a 2 (gain-framed and loss-framed) × 2 (hedonic and utilitarian) × 2 (personalized and general) between-subjects experiment. Hypotheses were tested by comparing the perceived value for each group using analysis of variance and a mediation analysis of 600 datasets. The result shows a general message with gain-framed and the loss-framed message is not significantly different from the perceived value of the product, regardless the product type. A personalized message with gain-framed content has a better effect than loss-framed content as it relates to the perceived value of a utilitarian product, but the improvement is not significant for a hedonic product. Perceived value of the product also has a significant effect on purchase intention and partially mediated the effect of message-framing toward product purchase intention. Thus, it is better to design the push notification as a personalized message with gain-framed message content in order to reduce cart-abandonment rates. INDEX TERMS Message framing, message personalization, product type, purchase intention, perceived value, push notification.
