This pilot study compared the effects on short-term functional capacity and body composition of 2 post-bariatric surgery home-based programs: aerobic exercise alone versus aerobic exercise combined with progressive resistance conditioning. Laboratory measures and self-assessments of post-bariatric surgery patients (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2) undergoing either aerobic exercise (AE group) or aerobic + progressive-resistance exercise (AEPR group) were compared at postoperative months 1 and 3. Anthropometric characteristic changes were recorded, as well as changes in functional capacity (e.g., 6-min walking test), muscle strength (e.g., hand grip strength test; five-times-sit-to-stand test), and quality of life (i.e., Beck Depression Inventory). Between July 2018 and March 2019, 35 patients completed the AE (n = 17) or AEPR (n = 18) program. The AEPR group lost statistically significantly more weight (mean 2.2 kg) relative to baseline than the AE group (p < 0.05). The AEPR group achieved significantly greater mean total muscle, liquid, and bone mass; upper-extremity muscle strength; uric acid levels; body fat loss; and performed better on the 6-min walking test (all p < 0.05). In month 3, the AEPR group achieved a greater mean walking distance (p = 0.029) and O2 saturation related to dyspnea (p = 0.001) than the AE group. Group quality of life scores were comparable. In a comparative 12-week post-bariatric surgery study, both aerobic exercise alone and aerobic exercise plus progressive-resistance training were positively correlated with general health improvement. However, the progressive-resistance regimen resulted in significantly greater weight loss, functional capacity, muscle mass, and upper-body strength.

Exposure to risk factors of musculoskeletal disorders and the change in exposure can be measured by observational assessment techniques. One of the techniques is QEC (Quick Exposure Check), which was developed by Li and Buckle in 1998. We designed this study to translate QEC to Turkish and investigation of QEC's reliability among cleaners. The study was conducted among 20 cleaners who were randomly chosen from 200 subjects working at Istanbul University, Istanbul Medical Faculty Hospital. Test-retest reliability of QEC was investigated by intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Bland Altman method. The reliability coefficients of QEC items were found between 0.589 and 1. Among those QEC items, wrist hand position, back position, using vehicle, work period, were found statistically the most reliable between measurements. The items' reliability of QEC was generally fair to good. For this reason, we suggest that, QEC would be helpful for evaluation of WRMSD risk assessment to those who work in the field of work health and safety in the industry of Turkey.

Method: Thirty-two basketball players (mean age 22.75±2.73 years, weight 87.47±10.99 kg, height 188.85±7.35 cm, body mass index 24.46±1.89) participated in this study. They performed two different stretching protocols according to basketball training experience in randomly assigned order: randomized in consecutive manner according to admission order, well-trained basketball players (training frequency = 5 days/week, groups I and II), less-trained basketball players (1 day/week, groups III and IV). Basketball players in groups I and III were exposed to isokinetic tests-one each after dynamic stretching and, 1 week later, after static stretching. In groups II and IV, similar evaluations were made after static stretching and, 1 week later, after dynamic stretching. Five days/ week were included in the well-trained group. The less-trained group consisted of basketball players who trained 1 day/week. Results: In less-trained basketball players, static stretching resulted in higher extensor muscular strength and endurance values, whereas dynamic stretching increased knee flexor strength and endurance. Conclusion: Our results suggest that before competitions, stretching exercises should be chosen depending on the conditioning of the basketball player (well-trained, less-trained). Including both static and dynamic stretching into the "stretching" concept seems effective.

This study aimed to translate the questionnaire into Turkish language (Turkish MY-MOP-TMYMOP) and add this clinically useful measure to Turkish medical practice by assessing its validity and reliability. Materials and Methods: Fifty volunteers with anorectal disorders were prospectively included into the study. Each patient was enrolled into a pelvic floor training biofeedback program, specific to their anorectal symptomatology. The subjects were administered both the Nottingham Health Profile and the TMYMOP2 questionnaires before the treatment session (initial visit) and at the control follow-up visits (the first and second months, via e-mail or telephone calls). Results: The TMYMOP2 questionnaire was shown to be moderately valid (the Pearson correlation coefficient score between the total scores of the subgroups of the two questionnaires were 0.335 and 0.642, respectively, p<0.05) and highly reliable (the Cronbach's alfa coefficient score between the total scores of the subgroups of the two questionnaires were 0.77, 0.82, and 0.88 in the beginning and at the first and second month follow-up visits, respectively). Conclusion: The TMYMOP2 was shown to be a low-to-moderately valid and a highly reliable scale. Because it is brief and short to complete, it might be an important and free-to-use tool to measure the diseases, and it can enhance the patient-centered care within the Turkish health care context.

Methods: The control group (n:15) was applied with classical physiotherapy program including ultrasound, tens and exercise. The experiment group (n:15) was applied kinesiological-tape for seven days in addition to classical physiotherapy and rehabilitation program. Pretreatment and post-treatment pains of the patients were measured by using Visual Analog Scale (VAS), the goniometer was used to measure the shoulder ranges, Constant-Murley measured daily life activity levels, and DASH-T measured shoulder disability level. Results: As the VAS scores of the control group inactivity reduced by 11,21 points, the scores of the experiment group decreased by 24,53 points. The difference in scores between the two groups is significant statistically (p<0,05). As the extension and abduction scores increased significantly more in the experiment group, flexion increase is more at the control group. However, the difference between the two groups in shoulder movement angles was not found significant statistically (p>0,05). For shoulder movement opening, all records of the experiment group are significantly better than that of the control group, except the flexion increase. Conclusion: Kinesiological tape application ensuring a reduction in pain for rotator cuff injury in a shorter period is a treatment also providing significantly better results in shoulder movement recovery, increase in functionality, and a decrease in disability.
