Significantly higher maggot mortality of 46.00, 45.00 and 43.92 per cent was registered due to the application of Eucalyptus citriodora, Tridax procumbens and Tribulus terrestris at 0.8 per cent compared to distilled water spray (3.85 %) and absolute control (0.00 %). The pupation rate was reduced in the maggots treated with E. citriodora (75.20 %), T. procumbens (76.30 %) and T. terrestris (78.00 %) and found to be statistically superior to distilled water spray and absolute control. Significantly lesser adult emergence and fecundity were observed in the lots sprayed with E. citriodora, T. procumbens and T. terrestris than to distilled water and absolute control.

PA12 recorded the highest larval and cocoon weight (1.52 g and 0.68 g) in a pool of multivoltines tested and CSR2 recorded the highest (3.08 g and 2.49 g) among bivoltines tested. Among multivoltines, Nistari (1722.5 μg) and CB5 (1648.8 μg) recorded higher amylase activity and Tamil Nadu White recorded the least. Among bivoltines, the amylase activity was significantly higher in PAM101 (184.03μg) and NB4D2 (180.42μg). CSR19, CC1, NB7 and CSR18 were on par and showed low digestive amylase activity. Amylase activity in digestive juice was about 10 to 15 fold higher in multivoltines than bivoltines. Positive significant correlation (P=0.01) was recorded between digestive amylase activity and effective rate of rearing (0.812). Negative correlation was recorded between amylase activity, and biological and yield related traits of silkworm, Bombyx mori L.

Among the treatments, 0.8 per cent of Eucalyptus citriodora recorded reduced oviposition (54.50 %), egg hatchability (63.85 %) and maggot recovery (74.00 %) followed by Tridax procumbens (55.00, 64.73 and 75.00 %, respectively) and was statistically superior than distilled water (97.95 %) and absolute control (100.00 %). Significantly higher maggot mortality was registered at 0.8 per cent Eucalyptus citriodora (46.00 %) followed by T. procumbens (45.00 %) compared to distilled water (3.85 %) and absolute control (0.00 %). Spraying leaf extracts of E. citriodora and T. procumbens, also drastically reduced the pupation rate, adult emergence and fecundity of uzi fly.

The study was carried out to determine the bioactive compounds in the botanicals viz., Phyllanthus niruri, Emblica officinalis and Psoralea corylifolia through phytochemical screening tests and to estimate the total phenol and flavonoid contents in three botanicals. The results of the phytochemical screening tests indicate the presence of phenols, tannin, flavonoids, saponins, terpenoids, steroids and alkaloids. Phytochemicals from medicinal plants/some botanicals are likely to possess many pharmacological activities such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, antimicrobial effects against various pathogens. The Total Phenol content in Phyllanthus niruri is 115 mg/g and with flavonoid value 70.15 mg/g. The Flavonoid content in Emblica officinalis was found to be 22.52 mg/g. The value varies from plants to plants and the results clearly indicate that plants are rich in various phytochemica...

The present experiment was conducted to assess the efficacy of chitosan on the growth and yield related attributes of mulberry, Morus sp. with various concentrations such as 25, 50, 75, 100 and 125 ppm. The chitosan was sprayed thrice on 15, 30 and 45 days after pruning (DAP) on the foliage of three different mulberry varieties namely V1, MR2 and G4. The result revealed that, irrespective of varieties, the foliar application of chitosan at 75 ppm significantly increased the biometric as well as yield related attributes of mulberry over other concentrations. Among the three varieties, V1 showed more response to chitosan application than G4 and MR2. At 75 ppm, chitosan showed marked effect on VI variety of mulberry and significantly increased shoot length (170.67 cm), number of shoots per plant (9.03), number of le...

The mean disease incidence ranged from 31.58 to 4.04 per cent with maximum (mean) cocoon yield loss at Dharapuram TSC (30.05 kg/100 dfls). Dusting with TNAU seri dust followed by Psoralea extract per os application drastically reduced the larval mortality from 3.28 to 1.35 per cent. Maximum larval weight, cocoon weight, shell weight, shell ratio and cocoon yield of 3.68 g, 1.74 g, 0.323 g, 18.56 per cent and 78.20 kg/100 dfls respectively were registered in TNAU seri dust + Psoralea extract treated batch. Subsequent On-Farm Trials confirmed the reduction in larval mortality and enhancement in economic as well as yield parameters of silkworm, Bombyx mori L. Higher incremental cost benefit (ICB) of 2.37 was recorded in the batch treated with TNAU seri dust and Psoralea.
