We now report the proportion of [ 125 I]-NT, [ 3 H]-FP, and poly-L-lysine (PLL) in the NT-polyplex, and some of its biophysical properties. We concluded that the most efficient NT-polyplex comprised 1 NT, 4 FP, and 2 PLL molecules. Electrophoresis revealed that high acidity is detrimental for NT-polyplex stability. Electron microscopy and electrophoresis studies showed that 6 μM KP and 1% serum condensed the plasmid DNA (pDNA) before the appearance of toroid structures. Four plasmids were used to evaluate the transfection efficiency. In vitro, maximum expression was produced at molar ratios (pDNA : [ 125 I]-NT-[ 3 H]-FP-PLL conjugate) of 1:34 for pEGFP-N1 and 1:27 for pECFP-Nuc. Cotransfection of those plasmids was attained at their optimum molar ratios. In vivo, maximum expression of the pDAT-BDNF-flag in dopamine neurons was produced at a 1:45 molar ratio, whereas that of pDAT-EGFP was at 1:20. The NT-polyplex in the presence of 1 μM SR-48692, an NTreceptor specific antagonist, and untargeted polyplex did not cause transfection in vivo demonstrating the specificity of gene transfer via NTreceptor endocytosis. This information is essential for synthesizing an efficient NT-polyplex that can provide a useful tool for specific gene transfection.

These properties have supported the idea of co-administering GDNF and conventional pharmacological treatment of Parkinson’s disease (PD), since the etiology of this pathology is characterized by the progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons that provide innervations to basal ganglia, affecting the control of motor functions. Despite the usual treatment with L-DOPA and cellular transplants (fetal dopaminergic neurons or differentiated chromafin cells) have been helpful to increase the dopaminergic transmission and to control the disabling symptoms of the PD, these treatments have failed to stop the progressive cell degeneration in PD patients. Consequently, the actual investigative efforts in neuroscience are aimed at find such trophic factors that help to stop the progressive cell destr...

This virus showing high mutation capacity and is responsible for many respiratory diseases and it also has high emerging pandemic risk. During 2009, an outbreak of influenza A H1N1 variety, characterized by a specific recombination of pig-bird-human, had its epidemiological focus in Mexico. The World Health Organization (WHO) cataloged this outbreak as an imminent pandemic disease, due to many cases that were filed within the country and abroad. In the present study, we report the epidemiological monitoring of four years of molecular diagnosis of influenza B and the different strains of influenza A, using the reverse transcription and real time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR One Step) technique. The results show that in recent years, cases of influenza A H1N1 have decreased compared to 2009, the year in which the outbreak began; however, the risk of outbreaks of other variants does exist in the winter m...

Development of molecular techniques and their gradual incursion to hospitals bring a fast, sensitive and specific alternative diagnostic test to identify the causal agent of sepsis, determine sensitivity or resistance to antimicrobial drugs and effectively discriminate contaminating flora. This paper presents the results of samples sent by the Department of Epidemiology at the Genomic Medicine Laboratory to integrate a likely picture of sepsis diagnostic in a period between May, 2012 to September 2013, where a total of 25 samples were received (18 adults and 7 infants) and results were obtained within 72 hours. 80% of samples were polymicrobial infections and Stenotrophomonas maltophilia was the...

The samples were collected from December 2012 to August 2013, in total 89 samples were analyzed, we obtained a positive identification in 24 samples, 22 were positive to Mycobacterium tuberculosis and 2 were positive for Mycobacterium abscessus. According to sample origin, we cataloged the tuberculosis as TB pulmonary in the 54.4% of cases and the remainder were TB extrapulmonary, incluiding 2 cases of chilhood tuberculous meningoencephalitis.
