Most of this models and specifications are complex, difficult to understand and implement in reduced environments. Small and very small organizations (less than 10 employees) can benefit from reuse but, they need easy to understand methodologies, processes and tools; low cost technologies and, flexible development models. We provide a flexible approach to the modelling process proposing an easy model to represent and classify reusable assets, mainly those developed inside the organization but, compliant with standards to allow the use of COTS. Our model deals with functional and nonfunctional properties and, it's able to represent assets from the whole software development life cycle.

During the perinatal period, any changes in the elastogenic process during foetal development may result in permanent lifetime defects. In pre-natal life, well-developed pulmonary elastic fibres should favor the pre-natal maturation of the lung and an enhanced alveolisation, which in many species, such as humans begins only after birth. The authors present a quantitative study by image analysis and by high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) of the mouse lungs' elastic fibre content from the 15th till the 19th gestational day.

There are no reports of psychotic symptoms in FHM type 2 (ATP1A2). We examined a family with a FHM phenotype due to a M731T mutation in ATP1A2. A 10-year follow-up allowed us to observe complex auras, including psychotic symptoms in two siblings. Case report Male, 48 years old, with an aura that included complex illusions with a feeling of time travelling, coincident with other aura features. The aura was regarded as mystical by the patient. Female, 38 years old, with a complex migraine aura, during which she believed she had the ability to time travel and was being followed by lobbyists who wanted to steal this ability from her. Discussion FHM type 2 must be included in the list of differential diagnoses of acute psychosis in patients with a previous history of migraine aura. Yield losses in cereal crops under temperate climate conditions due to weed-crop competition, nam... more Yield losses in cereal crops under temperate climate conditions due to weed-crop competition, namely Lolium rigidum G., can reach up to 80%, depending on the season and infestation level. Nevertheless, the costs of chemical weed control and the environmental impact caused by herbicides recommend the search for strategies to reduce their input. Therefore, the aim of this work was to study the possibility of reducing the input of different post-emergence herbicides (diclofop-methyl + fenoxaprop-p-ethyl and amidosulfuron + iodosulfuron-methyl-sodium) to control Lolium rigidum G. and broad-leaf weeds in barley under no-till, and to monitor the effect on weed population levels and crop yields. A field experiment was carried out in 2007-2008 and 2008-2009, in an experimental farm in the south of Portugal, combining different herbicide doses applied at different weed development stages. Results show that, for all herbicide doses, the earlier application provides higher weed control efficacy and higher grain yields, indicating that the reduction of doses is possible while maintaining satisfactory crop grain yields.

Design: Observational 12-year follow-up study. Setting: Community and hospital care. Patients: Sixteen patients in a 4-generation family were identified in 1998 in a population-based survey. The follow-up revealed 28 patients (25 of whom were observed) and 32 unaffected relatives with an a priori risk of 50%. Results: Four major phenotypes (migraine with multiple auras, transient focal neurological deficits without headache, coma triggered by minor head trauma, and slowly progressive cerebellar ataxia) were present in various combinations. The initial manifestation was ataxia in 16 patients and a transient episode in 12 patients. Eighteen patients did not have migraine, and 11 showed only ataxia. The c.1748 (p.R583Q) mutation in CACNA1A was confirmed in all 23 of the patients who were tested but was not found in any of the 27 adult relatives. The CACNA1A CAG repeat expansion was excluded. Conclusions: A unique missense mutation in the CACNA1A gene, which exhibits a very high penetrance and expressivity, may present a phenotypic spectrum that is broader than current descriptions. Single-gene disorders can behave as complex traits, which reinforces the importance of genetic modifiers in the tightly regulated function of P/Q-type calcium channels. The clinical spectrum of missense mutation CACNA1A-related disorders is much broader than strictly familial hemiplegic migraine.

The internet is an important tool for obtaining information. It offers vast amounts of information ranging from basic to advanced, from general to specific. Nevertheless, its quality cannot be classified or graded. Furthermore, some technical and/or specific information may not be available for free. This work primarily shows the great utility of the internet for getting suitable information in Chemistry and emphasizes open access and quality sites in Chemistry. It directs the reader towards many useful sites within some branches of Chemistry that provide powerful tools of research and study that may not be obtained easily at a library.

Apoptosis was studied by flow cytometry, agarose gel electrophoresis and morphological analysis. Rhodium II propionate induced apoptosis in all the three cell lines, Rhodium II amidate, in the lymphoid cell lines Jurkat and Raji, and cisplatin, only in the Jurkat, a T lymphoid cell line. It has also been observed that the addition of dexamethasone enhances the apoptosis index only in U937, a monocytic line with a glucocorticoid receptor bearing.

Design: Patient surrey, combined with routinely collected information on the circumstances of tbe bouse calL Setting: Emergency boose caDs provided by an independent emergency care organization (ECO) in Genera, Switzerland. Participants: Consecutive sample of 389 patients (67% response rate). Main outcome measure: Patient satisfaction. Predictor variables: patient age and sex, type of medical problem, time of visit, waiting time, duration of visit, perceived effectiveness of treatment. Results: Tbe satisfaction questionnaire was easy to administer. Factor analysis identified 3 separate dimensions of satisfaction, which pertained to tbe visit itself, to access and to general attitude toward tbe ECO. Validation tests were consistent with expectations. In mnltivarlate analysis, older patient age and greater perceived treatment effectiveness predicted independently aD satisfaction scales. Presence of a mixed physical and mental problem reduced satisfaction with the visit itself only, a delay between tbe phone call and the visit exceeding one hour reduced satisfaction with access and worsened tbe attitude toward tbe ECO. Conclusion: The instrument used to measure patient satisfaction with emergency bouse calls performed welL Overall levels of satisfaction were high. Perceived effectiveness of treatment was the strongest correlate of patient satisfaction. Monitoring of patient satisfaction in emergency settings may contribute to improvements of quality of care.

Several findings point to a possible role of the endothelin receptor type A (EDNRA) in migraine. We aim to assess the involvement of endothelin receptor type A (EDNRA) in migraine susceptibility in a sample of Portuguese migraineurs. METHODS: Three tagging SNPs (rs702757, rs5333 and rs5335) were analysed in 188 cases-111 without aura (MO) and 77 with aura (MA)-and 287 controls. A multivariable logistic regression was performed, including the three SNPs, adjusted for gender. Allelic and haplotypic frequencies were compared between cases and controls. Significant or promising results were confirmed by a multifactor dimensionality reduction analysis (MDR).

They are often difficult to classify in clinical terms, except for Friedreich ataxia, ataxia-telangiectasia, and a relatively small group of rare conditions for which the molecular basis has already been defined. Objectives: To study the clinical presentation and to define diagnostic criteria in a group of Portuguese patients with ataxia and ocular apraxia, an autosomal recessive form without the essential clinical and laboratory features of ataxia-telangiectasia. Patients and Methods: We reviewed 22 patients in 11 kindreds, identified through a systematic survey of hereditary ataxias being conducted in Portugal. Results: Age at onset ranged from 1 to 15 years, with a mean of 4.7 years. The duration of symptoms at the time of last examination varied from 5 to 58 years. All patients presented with progressive cerebellar ataxia, the characteristic ocular apraxia, and a peripheral neuropathy. Associated neurologic signs included dystonia, scoliosis, and pes cavus. Magnetic resonance imaging was performed in 16 patients, all of whom showed cerebellar atrophy. Conclusions: Ataxia with ocular apraxia may be more frequent than postulated before, and may be identified clinically using the following criteria: (1) autosomal recessive transmission; (2) early onset (for most patients in early childhood); (3) combination of cerebellar ataxia, ocular apraxia, and early areflexia, with later appearance of the full picture of peripheral neuropathy; (4) absence of mental retardation, telangiectasia, and immunodeficiency; and (5) the possibility of a long survival, although with severe motor handicap.
