The signal is observed in the form of an enhancement of pairs of same-sign charged particles with small relative four-momentum. The size of the correlated particle emission region is seen to increase significantly with the particle multiplicity of the event.
First measurements of dihadron correlations for charged particles are presented for central PbPb ... more First measurements of dihadron correlations for charged particles are presented for central PbPb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 2.76 TeV over a broad range in relative pseudorapidity (∆η) and the full range of relative azimuthal angle (∆φ). The data were collected with the CMS detector, at the LHC. A broadening of the away-side (∆φ ≈ π) azimuthal correlation is observed at all ∆η, as compared to the measurements in pp collisions. Furthermore, long-range dihadron correlations in ∆η are observed for particles with similar φ values. This phenomenon, also known as the "ridge", persists up to at least |∆η| = 4. There were four women and two men, with ages ranging between 27 and 56 years. Three patients presented episodes of optical neuritis. The plaques of MS detecte d by MRI measured in diameter between 3.0 and 9.0 mm and were mostly oval and elliptical. In the acute stage MRI demonstrated also perifocal edema and a focal mass in three patients, while in two cases, following the injection of Gadolinium-DTPA, multiple enhancing lesions were also demonstrated.
