For the Church, the compassionate face is not an optional mask to wear at whim, but an inalienable inevitability to witness Christ to the world. This study helps us to understand how archaeology can illuminate biblical studies. However, archaeology does not have the final word on the interpretation of the Bible. The Bible has to be interpreted in its totality. Archaeology claims that the walls of Jericho did not exist at the arrival of Joshua. But ch.6 of Joshua itself has enormous textual variants between MT and LXX. Before advocating archaeological discoveries, we need to be patient enough to understand what actually the text speaks. This is not a detailed study on Ch. 6 of Joshua. It is only an overview on the contributions of Archaeology as well as on the biblical understanding of Joshua's conquest of Jericho.
