The article presents an approach to the research project in the field of production engineering i... more The article presents an approach to the research project in the field of production engineering in the framework of cooperation between science and industry. The project was conducted in a manufacturing company of automotive industry that operates in Poland. The main objective of the project is to conduct value stream mapping, including development of current state map including the observation of the process of preparing and assembling two products, working out the documentation of observed production processes and developing charts to compare planned and observed working time. Based on the current state map some suggestions to improve production process “from door to door” of the company are demonstrated. Suggestions for improvement of the current state are presented on the future state map.

The difficulty, however, is to design and integrate AR with virtual production systems. The paper presents a proposal for a technical procedure for the implementation of the integration of a commercial PLM and a proprietary AR system.

The main goal was to realise the procedure of machining process plan generation using semi-generative method of CAPP system build. This method requires to use the expert system. The manufacturing knowledge is determine by machining process plan template, in the form of hierarchical networks, and production rules where the definition of manufacturing activities is mandatory. Moreover the classification and formal description of manufacturing activities is also included. This formalization let us to define manufacturing capabilities of manufacturing system resources and is also used in workpiece features identification and transformation. The new definition of machining process as an ordered set of activities is introduced. During the machining process the intermediate states of workpiece are generated. Also the manufacturing system model in the form of objects and vector of its state is given. The described activities cause the intended discrete change of manufacturing system and workpiece state.

Computer integration of product phases can be viewed as functional, informational and complex integration. The process planning quality is assured during the design and technological process planning stage with the use of methods and systems processing the data from other product development phases. The paper presents the methods and systems for processing and assembling of system planning in the product's life cycle as well as the possibility for the implementation of the presented product development phases.
