How efficient and productive are co-operatives in Indonesia? Empirical evidence from data envelopment analysis

To optimally function as the pillar and backbone of the economy, the co-operatives should be managed efficiently and productively. Considering their pivotal roles in the Indonesian economy, this study is aimed at empirically measuring efficiency and productivity of the co-operatives across 33 provinces nationwide. Three inputs (i.e., own capital, external financing, and board size) and one output (co-operative surplus) over the period 2010-2015 are analyzed using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) with Malmquist Index. The study documented that the co-operatives were highly inefficient, indicated by the average level of inefficiency of 47.6%. Out of the co-operatives in 33 provinces, 42.42% were found to record efficiency level of less than 50% and only 12.12% of them were fully efficient. Banda Aceh Municipality is the first city in Aceh Province that has adopted a pattern of creative... more Banda Aceh Municipality is the first city in Aceh Province that has adopted a pattern of creative industries development through the OVOP movement. This study aims to identify the development of creative industries through OVOP Movement in the Banda Aceh Municipality, Aceh, Indonesia. To explain the results of this study, we used a qualitative descriptive method. Based on the results of the study, it can be identified that there are 368 OVOP products in 90 villages in 9 sub-districts in Banda Aceh Municipality. The product marketing technique, in addition to being carried out by the business owner, is also marketed through agents or distributors and selling online. Until now OVOP products in the Banda Aceh Municipality have been marketed to domestic and international markets. For the sustainability of the production of these local products, it is hoped that the government should encourage these SMEs to continue to produce local products that are highly competitive. This encouragement can be done by providing assistance to creative SMEs, funding assistance, or encouraging the private sector to participate in the development of local products.

Penentuan sampel menggunakan Stratified Random Sampling (STRS). This study aims to examine the direct effect of the curriculum on learning motivation and the dir... more This study aims to examine the direct effect of the curriculum on learning motivation and the direct influence of the curriculum on student learning achievement and examine the indirect influence (mediation) of the curriculum on student learning achievement through motivation to study.This research was carried out in the city of Banda Aceh, with the research method used namely the survey method while the research approach was mixed (mix method). The population is all public junior high school students in Banda Aceh as many as 9,640, the sample is 385 students selected using the Slovin formula. The techniques of collecting data used observation, documents and questionnaires.Data analysis techniques used Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with Amost version 21 and Sobel Test to test indirect effects (mediation). The results of the analysis show that: (1) There is a direct influence of the curriculum on student learning motivation with Standardized Loading Estimate of 0.3. (2)There is a negative direct effect of the curriculum on student achievement with Standardized Loading Estimates-0.33.(3) There is an indirect effect of the curriculum on student learning achievement through student learning motivation with Indirect Effect Estimate 0.19.

Population of this research is all CMSMEs based on agro-business that are developed under Board of Cooperative, Industry and Commerce (Diskoperindag) of Central Aceh Regency. Samples of 80 MSMEs are taken based on the board’s effort to train and to guide the MSMEs in administration, accountancy, marketing and to equip various facility including information technology. Analyze was conducted by regression of variable supporting power of CMSMEs. The study shows that variables identified in the effort progress model of CMSMEs equal to 0,66%. The influence of the efforts is relatively small, only equal to 0,44%. This study aims to analyze the role of Micro Small Enterprises (MSEs) and Medium-Large Enterprise... more This study aims to analyze the role of Micro Small Enterprises (MSEs) and Medium-Large Enterprises (MLEs) in addressing income inequality in all districts/cities in Aceh Province and also analyze the most dominant variables that reduce the community income gap. This study uses 2016 Economic Census of BPS province of Aceh for 23 districts/cities and Gini Ratio for community income gap variables. The results showed that the number of MSEs units, the average MSEsworkers, the total wages received by the SMEs workers, the SMEs wage average, and the district/city economic growth in 2016 had a significant effect on the income inequality in the districts/cities of Aceh Province. While the number of MSEs workers, the number of MLEs units, the number of MLEs workers, the average of MLEs workers, the total wages of MLEs workers, and the average wage of MLEsworkers have not significantly influence to the community income gap. The only factor that has a significant influence in reducing the gap in community income is the total remuneration (wages) received by MSEs workers. The recommendation that can be given to be implemented immediately for the Aceh government is to strengthen MSEs, including cooperatives as the drivers of the Aceh's economic which can absorb more labor and compensation or wages received by workers also increases. Furthermore, the Government of Aceh, in this case, the Provincial Manpower Office and the Office that manages labors all districts/cities must monitor the application of the Provincial Minimum Wage (PMW) for MSEs which have been under-emphasized for various reasons and consider.

To illustrate the situation, we used a dataset in 2016 from the official publication of the Indonesian Agency for Creative Economy (BEKRAF). Based on the results of the analysis, we conclude that the majority of creative industries do not have legal status, internet media, business networks while managing their businesses. Therefore, we recommend that stakeholders, especially the government, universities, and entrepreneurs, develop it so that they can create jobs and increase regional income through local taxes.

This study aims to identify the development of creative industries through OVOP Movement in the Banda Aceh Municipality, Aceh, Indonesia. To explain the results of this study, we used a qualitative descriptive method. Based on the results of the study, it can be identified that there are 368 OVOP products in 90 villages in 9 sub-districts in Banda Aceh Municipality. The product marketing technique, in addition to being carried out by the business owner, is also marketed through agents or distributors and selling online. Until now OVOP products in the Banda Aceh Municipality have been marketed to domestic and international markets. For the sustainability of the production of these local products, it is hoped that the government should encourage these SMEs to continue to produce local products that are highly competitive. This encouragement can be done by providing assistance to creative SMEs, funding assistance, or encouraging the private sector to participate in the development of local products.

The population is all public junior high school students in Banda Aceh as many as 9,640, the sample is 385 students selected using the Slovin formula. The techniques of collecting data used observation, documents and questionnaires.Data analysis techniques used Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with Amost version 21 and Sobel Test to test indirect effects (mediation). The results of the analysis show that: (1) There is a direct influence of the curriculum on student learning motivation with Standardized Loading Estimate of 0.3. (2)There is a negative direct effect of the curriculum on student achievement with Standardized Loading Estimates-0.33.(3) There is an indirect effect of the curriculum on student learning achievement through student learning motivation with Indirect Effect Estimate 0.19.

Population of this research is all CMSMEs based on agro-business that are developed under Board of Cooperative, Industry and Commerce (Diskoperindag) of Central Aceh Regency. Samples of 80 MSMEs are taken based on the board’s effort to train and to guide the MSMEs in administration, accountancy, marketing and to equip various facility including information technology. Analyze was conducted by regression of variable supporting power of CMSMEs. The study shows that variables identified in the effort progress model of CMSMEs equal to 0,66%. The influence of the efforts is relatively small, only equal to 0,44%. This study aims to analyze the role of Micro Small Enterprises (MSEs) and Medium-Large Enterprise... more This study aims to analyze the role of Micro Small Enterprises (MSEs) and Medium-Large Enterprises (MLEs) in addressing income inequality in all districts/cities in Aceh Province and also analyze the most dominant variables that reduce the community income gap. This study uses 2016 Economic Census of BPS province of Aceh for 23 districts/cities and Gini Ratio for community income gap variables. The results showed that the number of MSEs units, the average MSEsworkers, the total wages received by the SMEs workers, the SMEs wage average, and the district/city economic growth in 2016 had a significant effect on the income inequality in the districts/cities of Aceh Province. While the number of MSEs workers, the number of MLEs units, the number of MLEs workers, the average of MLEs workers, the total wages of MLEs workers, and the average wage of MLEsworkers have not significantly influence to the community income gap. The only factor that has a significant influence in reducing the gap in community income is the total remuneration (wages) received by MSEs workers. The recommendation that can be given to be implemented immediately for the Aceh government is to strengthen MSEs, including cooperatives as the drivers of the Aceh's economic which can absorb more labor and compensation or wages received by workers also increases. Furthermore, the Government of Aceh, in this case, the Provincial Manpower Office and the Office that manages labors all districts/cities must monitor the application of the Provincial Minimum Wage (PMW) for MSEs which have been under-emphasized for various reasons and consider.

To illustrate the situation, we used a dataset in 2016 from the official publication of the Indonesian Agency for Creative Economy (BEKRAF). Based on the results of the analysis, we conclude that the majority of creative industries do not have legal status, internet media, business networks while managing their businesses. Therefore, we recommend that stakeholders, especially the government, universities, and entrepreneurs, develop it so that they can create jobs and increase regional income through local taxes.
