En este proyecto se aborda el diseño de un distrito térmico de uso mixto para la generación de en... more En este proyecto se aborda el diseño de un distrito térmico de uso mixto para la generación de energía eléctrica, a base de gas natural, y térmica, con agua helada, cumpliendo con la demanda de un complejo administrativo ubicado en ciudades caribeñas. Es de vital importancia la implementación de este tipo de tecnologías en el mercado actual debido al constante crecimiento de los requerimientos energéticos en estas ciudades y que, a largo plazo, es muy rentable. El enfoque de este proyecto está centrado en el diseño del cuarto de máquinas de un distrito térmico, utilizando tecnologías de cogeneración para la producción de electricidad y frío y, además, realizar su estudio económico. El proceso de diseño consistió primero que todo en una investigación respecto a los distritos térmicos, luego se realizó una búsqueda exhaustiva de fabricantes y equipos. Seguidamente haciendo uso de la información de los fabricantes se procedió a la generación de ideas y alternativas que cumplieran con los requerimientos del proyecto, estas opciones de diseño fueron validadas con la metodología de AHP. La alternativa seleccionada constó de un arreglo de chillers eléctricos, como también de un chiller de absorción haciendo uso de motores a gas natural para la generación eléctrica. Las limitantes encontradas para la realización de este proyecto fueron la falta de información de detalle que nos podían proporcionar algunos fabricantes de los equipos. Lo conseguido por este proyecto fue el diseño exitoso de un distrito térmico cumpliendo las demandas requeridas por el cliente, y generando excedentes de energía que pueden ser usados por otros clientes, así como también para futuras aplicaciones. El análisis financiero del proyecto resultó en un proyecto atractivo para los inversionistas, así como también para los usuarios que demanden la energía.This Project addresses the design of a mixed-use district cooling for the generation of electricity, based on natural gas, and thermal, with cold water, meeting the demand of an administrative complex located in Caribbean cities. The implementation of this type of technology in the current market is of vital importance due to the constant growth of energy requirements in these cities and that, in the long term, is very profitable. The focus of this project is centered on the design of the machine room of a thermal district, using cogeneration technologies for the production of electricity and cold, and, in addition, conducting its economic study. The design process consisted first of all in an investigation regarding thermal districts, then an exhaustive search of manufacturers and equipment was carried out. Then, making use of the manufacturers' information, ideas and alternatives were generated that met the project's requirements. These design options were validated with the AHP methodology. The selected alternative consisted of an electric chiller arrangement, as well as an absorption chiller using natural gas engines for electricity generation. The limitations found for carrying out this project were the lack of detailed information that some equipment manufacturers could provide us. What was achieved by this project was the successful design of a thermal district meeting the demands required by the client, and generating surplus energy that can be used by other clients, as well as for future applications. The financial analysis of the project resulted in an attractive project for investors, as well as for users who demand energy

It is well known that the structural modification of carbon nanotubes (CNT) with heteroatoms, cou... more It is well known that the structural modification of carbon nanotubes (CNT) with heteroatoms, could modify their physical and chemical properties. These modifications open the possibilities to improve the electrochemical performance of CNT thus enhancing their application in batteries for storage of lithium ions. However, to achieve such characteristics it is important to control its structure, morphology and chemical composition during synthesis. In this work, the CNT were modified in situ by the intercalation of silicon (CNT-Si) in the graphitic carbon network to be used as an anode electrode in lithium ion battery. CNT-Si were synthesized by a modified chemical vapor deposition; toluene, ferrocene and triphenylsilane were used as carbon source, metal catalyst and silicon precursor, respectively. In addition, lithium ion batteries have the highest energy density among others known chemical batteries and are the most promising technology for portable applications. However, to satisfy such applications is essential to improve some components of lithium ion battery. One of the main challenges is to increase their electrochemical performance by improving the storage of lithium ions in the anode electrode. Graphite has been the most successful materials for the anode electrode, which has reached a specific capacity of 372 mAh g-1. However, those materials have reached its storage capacity limit. Bat rabies and its transmission to humans and other species in Mexico were investigated. Eighty-n... more Bat rabies and its transmission to humans and other species in Mexico were investigated. Eighty-nine samples obtained from rabid livestock, cats, dogs, and humans in Mexico were studied by antigenic typing and partial sequence analysis. Samples were further compared with enzootic rabies associated with different species of bats in the Americas. Patterns of nucleotide variation allowed the definition of at least 20 monophyletic clusters associated with 9 or more different bat species. Several lineages associated with distinctive antigenic patterns were found in rabies viruses related to rabies in vampire bats in Mexico. Vampire bat rabies virus lineages associated with antigenic variant 3 are widely spread from Mexico to South America, suggesting these lineages as the most likely ancestors of vampire bat rabies and the ones that have been moved by vampire bat populations throughout the Americas.
